Initially focused on coach touring around Australia and New Zealand, APT have grown significantly over the past 15 years and now offer trips around the world. They’re particularly well known and highly regarded for their all-inclusive luxury European river cruises. In more recent years, APT have also expanded into small ship expedition cruising, partnering with some of the world’s leading expedition cruise lines to offer voyages through Asia, Europe, Canada and along Australia’s Kimberley coast.
More recently, APT launched their river cruises into the North American market, so it will be interesting to see whether Canadians and Americans embrace read more them as strongly as we have Downunder. Catering primarily to the mature and retired market, their trips aren’t cheap, but in APT’s case, you get what you pay for. Keep an eye out for their Fly Free offers and Earlybird Savings.

Requirements vary considerably. Many Small Group Journeys are leisurely to moderate, while 4WD, wilderness and adventure itineraries can involve longer walks, uneven terrain and more active sightseeing.
Recent APT reviews
The next section was a 5 star cruise out of Broome. The trip start was encountered some industrial action in Broome which meant everything had to be transported on and off the ship by Zodiac. Nothing like starting an adventure with an adventure. Overall this was a very relaxing trip, food and staff were all excellent. The off ship excursions by zodiacs were well organised and very good. The only minor criticism is that APT were a little risk averse. A normal non APT trip would have included such thing as snorkeling on Ashmore Reef which was supposed to be a highlight, but with APT this was not an option. I suppose losing one or two guests due to sharks was thought as not worth it. However, overall, a great trip.

Outback Spirit is one of Australia's premier small group tour operators, offering all-inclusive journeys through Australia's most remote and iconic landscapes including the Kimberley, Arnhem Land, Cape York and the Red Centre. Yes. Specialist local guides are used for selected experiences, including Indigenous interpretive guides in remote communities and Traditional Owner-led cultural experiences.
How much free time will we have on a Outback Spirit trip?
These are comprehensive escorted tours with most sightseeing, meals and activities organised. Some itineraries include periods of free time to relax or explore independently, but independent time is not a major focus.
How fit do we need to be?
A reasonable level of fitness and mobility is required. Tours include guided walks that can involve uneven, rocky or slippery terrain, and travellers must generally be able to board and leave the coach unaided.
Recent Outback Spirit reviews
Our driver and guide..husband and wife team Bryce and Jessica were a credit to the company...courteous, accommodating, organised, helpful, understanding, knowledgeable. The Mercedes coach was comfortable, safe and well presented each day we boarded. I would recommend this time of year ..late May/June as the best time...still warm during the day and not too chilly at night..clear blue skies and bright starlit nights.
The highlights included Karijini National Park gorges, Port Hedland harbour cruise and Onslow. This trip was suitable for the age group which we toured with...all 70+...easy walking, accessible sites, and like minded. Some of the days are long distance...600kms but that is to be expected in WA and frequent two hourly stops were made.
The tour itself was amazing. I loved everything! The accommodation was excellent from remote glamping to luxury resorts. The food was first class with lots of choice. The knowlegable guides gave everyone personal service with a smile. It was such a privelege to spend so much time with the indigenous guides as they shared their connection to country with us. The landscapes were truly stunning and the rock art just WOW!!! The boat trips, the wildlife, the company, and the flights were an unexpected but very interesting way to view the landscapes. Here's my image of first light hitting the Arafura Swamp near Murwangi.
