Contiki vs G Adventures

Compare the travel styles, pricing, destinations and popularity of Contiki and G Adventures.

The Low Down

Over 35? Then Contiki is not for you. With tours and adventures designed for the 18-35's through Asia, Africa, North and South America and Europe, you'll need lots of energy for the good times ahead. Traditionally Contiki trips have been known for their late nights, lots of sleeping on the coach, and some sightseeing on the side. Contiki's philosophy of #NOREGRETS is about changing your perspective on the world, walking in others shoes, witnessing different cultures, religions, and ways of living. But most of all, it’s about living life out loud, unashamedly and completely, loving every single second of being young!

G Adventures have impressed us with their ethos, their range of unique itineraries and proven track record with over 100,000 past travellers. Their main competitor in the adventure touring space is Intrepid, with both Operators focused on authentic, affordable small group tours.

With over 600 trips around the world and 50,000 departures, G have a stunning range of interesting unique itineraries to choose from, with a focus on South and Central America, Asia and Polar expedition cruising. G Adventures operate dynamic pricing so prices can change daily - upwards if the trip is filling up, and down if they need to fill some spaces. G have also recently incorporated Wellness trips and 18-to-Thirty Somethings adventuresinto their portfolio of trip styles.

Great Britain & Ireland
5 Star Review from Olivia.

Amazing trip which allowed individuals to meet like-minded people whilst travelling and exploring the historical areas of Great Britain and Ireland. The Contiki road crew were amazing and very knowledgeable of the locations and highlights explored. The accommodation, included extras and add-ons were all excellent and great value for money. I would definitely book another Contiki trip and use Global Journeys in doing so.
Rhythm & Alps
2 Star Review from Mona.

I won’t travel with Contiki ever again. Very immature tour leader. The event bookings were mainly with those companies that benefit them not really caring about the customer. Zero customer service. However, this review is not related to Global Journeys, Global Journeys was amazing and quick in booking and very informative and accurate, I’ll book through them again.
Trail to London
5 Star Review from Peter & Cathryn.

A massive shout out to Jemma on her awesome effort in putting this tour together at short notice. Nothing was too much trouble and she was only happy to accommodate which lead to a smooth well organised holiday. The tour was exactly as expected with no issues. We have used Jemma in the past and would highly recommend her to everyone for their future travel needs.
Kiwiana Panorama
5 Star Review from Kate.

My tour operator was very helpful. I would book through Global Journeys again and would recommend Global Journeys to friends.
European Trail
5 Star Review from Olivia.

As a first time traveller through Europe, this was a great way to explore all the big sights and get a feel for the local cultures and languages. Contiki have put together such a great trip with included experiences as well as fantastic add-ons. The Contiki road crew were so knowledgeable and supportive. I would 100% book another Contiki and use Global Journeys to do so.

Spirit of Shackleton
5 Star Review from Ay Yuan.

It was a wonderful trip everyone should do it at least once in their lifetime. I went to Falkland Island, South Georgia Islands and Antarctica twice, both trips were excellent but I will recommend the January cruise if you like to see more penguins especially if you want to see those baby chicks still in the nest with mummy. Cabin was simple and clean, dining room staffs were excellent, always welcome you, greet you with your name and smile, help you anyway they can, I don't know how they can remember everyone's name. They remembered my Asian name, my drink and my cabin number. I'm not interested in food, everyone said meals were excellent and plentiful, many thanks to Hannah who makes booking online so easy. I gave 2 stars for entertainment that was because I never went to the bar at night.
Laos: Sunrises & Street Food
4 Star Review from Michelle & Sean.

Laos was unexpectedly surprising and we were very impressed with this tour. The people are very laid back and Vang Vieng and Luang Prabang are both incredible places. Great tour overall and Georgie was fantastic as always. Highly recommend.
Mekong River Encompassed
5 Star Review from Jenni & Susan.

This cruise is really well organised and goes where a lot of the bigger cruise boats do not go. G Adventures supports small local operators for their day trips and this was evident in a number of places as other tourists were not to be seen e.g. brick making, mule ride, hand made pottery, lunch at training restaurant, etc. Tour Leader (or Chief Experience Officer, CEO, as they are officially called) was very helpful and efficient especially when I had an unexpected trip to hospital. The cabins are a reasonable size for a small boat and there is a great sun deck upstairs which could be used anytime. Staff were helpful and most spoke enough English to be understood. Food was simple, varied and plentiful. Dinner was 4 course and special diets catered for, breakfast was a hot and cold buffet with your choice of cooked eggs, so plenty of options. Omelettes were best I’ve had. Would certainly travel with them again.
Japan: Ramen & Railways
5 Star Review from Jason.

The six day trip was a good introduction to three cities Tokyo, Takayama and Kyoto. For our trip we had Shoichi Marumaya as our tour guide. The tour guide was extremely knowledgeable, as he was native Japanese. He frequently talked about local cuisines, daily lives of locals and in depth backgrounds to traditions. The highlight of the trip was Takayama, in which the group stayed in a traditional inn and experienced the Japanese onsen. Compared to the frantic pace of the busy cities, it was a very different experience. The accommodation was the best in the traditional inn in Takayama. The Grids in Tokyo was comfortable and clean. However, the Grids hostel in Kyoto with 6 persons in one room was a little crowded.
New Zealand: South Island Encompassed
4 Star Review from Andy.

I had an amazing time on this tour and it's a great way to see most of the South Island. Itinerary was pretty awesome, though we did end up having to skip Franz Josef due to flooding so in place of that we ended up going to Tekapo and Aoraki/Mt. Cook! At the end of the tour, our CEO (which is also the driver) told us that we'd driven over 2400km! There were quite a few unique accommodations including Aquapackers, a floating ship hostel in Abel Tasman, and the Jailhouse Accommodation in Christchurch, however this is a hostel trip so set your expectations there (4-8 per room most nights, daily supermarket breakfast, and some included dinners). Also being NZ and the adventure capital of the world, there are A LOT of optionals which you will be booking on the trip, so definitely take a look at those and plan ahead!
