“Incredible way to venture around the historical countries of Great Britain and Ireland”
- NSW, Australia Jan 2020

Amazing trip which allowed individuals to meet like-minded people whilst travelling and exploring the historical areas of Great Britain and Ireland. The Contiki road crew were amazing and very knowledgeable of the locations and highlights explored. The accommodation, included extras and add-ons were all excellent and great value for money. I would definitely book another Contiki trip and use Global Journeys in doing so.

“Rhythm & Alps”
- QLD, Australia Dec 2019

I won’t travel with Contiki ever again. Very immature tour leader. The event bookings were mainly with those companies that benefit them not really caring about the customer. Zero customer service. However, this review is not related to Global Journeys, Global Journeys was amazing and quick in booking and very informative and accurate, I’ll book through them again.

Reply from Contiki:
Thank you for your feedback. Our Trip Managers are trained to be the absolute best in the business, with extensive local knowledge and desire to help our travellers feel supported. We curate unique experiences on trip that help you uncover the best of the places you visit and deliver these experiences through partner companies that hold themselves to the highest standards. It's a shame to hear that you felt otherwise. Your feedback is really important to us, so we have passed this onto our local operations team who will investigate further.

“Tour through Europe”
- NT, Australia Dec 2019

A massive shout out to Jemma on her awesome effort in putting this tour together at short notice. Nothing was too much trouble and she was only happy to accommodate which lead to a smooth well organised holiday. The tour was exactly as expected with no issues. We have used Jemma in the past and would highly recommend her to everyone for their future travel needs.

“Perfect way to explore Europe for the first time”
- NSW, Australia Nov 2019

As a first time traveller through Europe, this was a great way to explore all the big sights and get a feel for the local cultures and languages. Contiki have put together such a great trip with included experiences as well as fantastic add-ons. The Contiki road crew were so knowledgeable and supportive. I would 100% book another Contiki and use Global Journeys to do so.

“It was good overall ”
- NSW, Australia Nov 2019 View Photo

The trip was good but it could have been better, for example when we went to Venice, the waters were flooding and we shouldn’t have gone out in the waters. It was filthy and we were in the water for a long time. So instead we should have done a different place or did things that didn’t require us to walk through waters waist deep.

“Trip of a lifetime in Asia”
- QLD, Australia Jul 2019 1 Helpful Vote

This Contiki tour booked through Global Journeys was seamless as always. Yvonne handled our booking and sent us important updates along the way to ensure we didn't forget anything and to make the most out of our holiday. Once we began our tour, we realised again why we love group touring so much.. Everything is done for you! There's no hassle about getting to the right train station on time, organising a taxi with someone who doesn't speak English etc. You just have to remember what time to wake up in the morning to get to breakfast, which is always included! Everything else is taken care of and there are endless inclusions, so many that sometimes you are on the coach talking with your group and next minute you're at an Elephant Conservation park! Then free lunch you didn't know about. Then there's more to see in the afternoon, then included dinner! Our trip manager #Contikicoops was incredibly invested in ensuring everyone got the most out of their holiday and was always willing to answer questions.

The pace of the tour was perfect for us as we got to see so many things but didn't feel like it was too rushed which is often the downside to group tours. I had plenty of time to set up and take plenty of photos which is really important to me. It also left us plenty of sleep at night to recover for the next day but if you wanted to go and party, the option is there too. The accommodation was much better quality than I was expecting for 3 stars in Asia. It felt more like 4-5 stars with most places having a nice shaded pool to relax. The quality of the breakfasts was really amazing, every morning it was buffet style and often at least 2-3 styles of cuisine at each buffet. Eg, Asian, French, Western. I have coeliac disease but never had issues finding gluten free food even at communal breakfast. I brought along a translated card for each country and this helped immensely (download free or by donation celiactravel.com).

This tour was extremely valuable for its money. We did a few days solo travel post tour and instantly noticed how much more you have to think about and be responsible for, how much waiting around you do and for not that much less cost! At the same time there isn't a private guide in the background telling you about the place you are visiting. We went during monsoon season (July, Aug) and it only rained a couple of times usually while we were asleep, (which isn't good for the farmers) but I wouldn't avoid this time of year because of rain. The fields are lush and green and it's really sunny but also hot so if you like the heat it's the perfect time! We made so many new friends on this trip from all over the world and I have so many great memories which will get me through the next few months of working to save up for the next one!

“Smoothly run sightseeing”
- New Zealand Jul 2018

This trip was highly organised, I never had to worry about any of the logistics that you have when organising your own travels. I was able to simply just lay back and relax, and enjoy the amazing sights! Global journeys were a hassle free company to book this trip through. I had no problems with them and they were always prompt to reply.

The Contiki Experience

Why you should choose to travel with Contiki on your next adventure

Travel with no Regrets
Travel with no Regrets

Contiki are firm believers that life's greatest experiences are made better by the people you share them with. That's why Contiki invented group travel for young people in 1962 and we've spent the past 53 years perfecting it.

You'll explore amazing destinations with a group of 18-35 year olds from around the world who share your passion for adventure, good times and creating memories that define what it is to be young, wild and free.

Who You'll Travel With
Who You'll Travel With

Contiki are all about exploring the world with like-minded people, which is why we only run trips for 18-35 year olds, to celebrate being young, spirited and curious. You can expect to join a group of 18-53 awesome people from around the world on our Europe, Australia, North America and New Zealand trips, and in Asia and Latin America it's all about small group adventures with up to 25 travellers.

Don't worry if you're not traveling as a couple or with a friend from home – though there are plenty of pairs, 50% of our travellers set off solo, meaning you'll have a ton of opportunities to make new friends.

What Contiki Include
What Contiki Include

The best damn trips on the planet, that's what! But seriously, Contiki trips include everything you need to have the best travel experience of your life. Contiki take care of all the boring logistics like booking hotels, finding the best spots for dinner in small towns where no one speaks English and getting you from place to place.

You can toss out that map and guide book too, because we have an awesome team of Trip Managers, Drivers and Local Guides that know as much about the destinations you visit as the locals themselves.

And the sights? You'll get VIP access to the world's icons, so try not to look too smug as you skip to the front of the mile-long line at the Eiffel Tower and Colosseum. One thing's for sure - it's amazing value you won't find anywhere else .

Contiki Tour FAQ's

Frequently asked questions for clients considering travelling with Contiki

Before I book
Is Contiki only for 18 to 35 year olds?

Contiki are the original travel company for 18–35s. For Contiki, travelling is all about discovering amazing places with a bunch of like-minded people and having a great time doing it. To cater to this market and provide a product which not only meets, but exceeds your expectations, Contiki tours are only available to those between 18 and 35. In some circumstances, a passenger aged 17 will be accepted onto Contiki tours under the supervision of another passenger over 18 and with the consent of their parent or guardian.

Do many people travel on Contiki solo?

Yeah they do, and they have an amazing time! About 50% of Contiki travellers are on their own, but not for long! The experience of travel builds lasting relationships which you'll cherish for your lifetime. If you're concerned about travelling alone, don't be, you're making one of the best decisions of your life.

What happens if I'm traveling alone? Is there an extra charge?

If you're planning on traveling alone, (and nearly half of our clients do) and don't want to pay for a single room, we'll set you up with a roommate - same sex, of course! However, if you really want your very own room, and one is available, it will be offered for an additional surcharge, depending on which tour you are booking.

The tour I'm looking at doesn't have dates in the month I want to do it in, why not?

If departure dates are not showing up in the month you wish to travel, it's because the tour does not depart during that time due to operational or seasonal reasons.

How many people will be on the trip with me?

That depends on where you are going. For most of the trips, we operate luxury motor coaches and therefore carry between 25–50 people per trip. On some trips such as Asia and Outback of Australia we use smaller vehicles or mini coaches which carry 8–20 people.

Does the price shown include flights?

Contiki Holidays are inclusive of all transport once the tour begins. On tour, all coaches, trains, ferries, tuk tuks, bicycles, internal flights, whatever, are included in the cost of your tour. Everything you need to get around from the first to last day of tour. However, flights to and from your home city are NOT included. Global Journeys can also organise your flights if you wish, & we also recommend booking with your favourite airline online.

Are prices based on double occupancy?

Most prices are based on double occupancy, unless otherwise specified. For example, Most Concept tour prices are based on quad share with twin room bookings on a request basis incurring a surcharge. Some tours offer single occupancy for an additional cost, or triple– or quad–share for a reduced price.

What's the accommodation on Concept tours and why can I only book multi-share? Can a couple go on multi-share?

For Concept tours, the room share is based on not more than 4 persons per room of the same gender. Couples are encouraged to travel on concept tours and during the tour, whenever possible; our Tour Manager would allocate 2–person rooms/cabins for just the two of you or you may be paired with another couple.

Before I depart
When will I get my Contiki documents?

Global Journeys will forward on your E-Documentation approximately 21 days prior to your departure from Australia . If you wish to change from the default E-documentation setting to receive hard copy documents, you can do so within the Contiki 'Manage My Booking' portal. E-Documents will also be available for you to view in Contiki's 'Manage My Booking'.

How much luggage can I bring?

On Europe Concept and Time Out tours luggage is restricted to one reasonable sized, non–expanding suitcase size up to 29" x 20" x 10" (73cm x 50cm x 25cm) and a maximum weight of 20 kilos (44lbs), plus one small hand/day bag that can go on the coach with you. No metal frame backpacks please, their bulky shape makes coach packing difficult and they are likely to damage other luggage. On Camping tours, the maximum dimensions are 28" x 18" x 9" (70cm x 45cm x 23cm) with a maximum weight of 20 kilos (44lbs). On European ski packages, you may bring one pair of skis & ski boots. Note: Baggage is carried at the owner's own risk and insurance is strongly recommended. Contiki reserves the right to refuse to accept larger suitcases on tour.

What should I pack?

Like spending money, everyone's bound to be different depending on how many unique outfits you want to wear, what the weather is going to be like, how often you're willing to do washing - (most of the places Contiki stay at have the facility to do washing). A great tip is to pack a range of things that can mix, match and layer!

Do I need a passport and travel visas?

You will need a valid passport. Obtaining correct visas is your own responsibility. Not having correct visas could mean you missing out on part or all of your trip. Please refer to the visa section on our website - which should be used as a guide only. Then, double check with the individual Embassies before you depart, remembering that visa requirements can change at short notice. For most of the countries where visas are required, it is NOT possible to obtain the visa whilst on the trip and some visas take 3-4 weeks to obtain.

On the road
Can I book and pay for my Optional Activities now or on tour?

All Optional Activities are booked and paid for on tour with your Tour Manager. Usually on the first day you'll have a chance to discuss what's available and then, when it comes time to book, your Tour Manager will collect a cash payment for the activities.

How much free time will I have?

Contiki schedules plenty of free time during your trip so that you can also explore on your own. If you're concerned about having too much free time, Contiki offers fabulous optional activities. Also if at any time you feel like even more 'you' time, just have a chat with your tour manager about meeting up with everyone later. You can tailor your trip how you like; it's YOUR holiday!

What's the weather going to be like?

Weather is tricky as everywhere is different and it's always changing. Luckily, Global Journeys provide temperature, and rainfall averages on every itinerary page.

Why do I need a sleeping bag for my tour? I thought there was no camping?

You will not be camping, unless you have chosen a camping trip in Europe. On European concept trips, some of the cabins and hostels will have a pillow and top sheet only and so we advise you to bring a sleeping bag.

Arrival & departure details

The majority of Contiki tours start at the Contiki hotel where you will spend your first night on tour. If you're starting in London, this will be located at the Contiki Basement, beneath the Royal National Hotel. The Contiki website has a page relating to each region where you can see each departure point and finishing point, as well as information on additional nights of pre and post tour accommodation.

Detailed departure information will be supplied with your E-Documentation, which Global Journeys will forward on to you approx 21 days prior to your departure. E-Documents will also be available for you to view in Contiki's 'Manage My Booking' portal.

Terms & Conditions

All the boring small print. We recommend you read them, as no one likes surprises!
