This was an amazing trip full of fun and excitement. It was a wonderful to see the European landscape in winter, we even visited a snow resort in Slovakia for lunch. It was uplifting in beautiful Vienna, Budapest and Prague but there were also sombre and thought provoking times at Auschwitz and in the Polish ghettoes. The Be My Guest dinner at Schieszl winery in Budapest was a highlight. If you get the chance don't think twice, just go.

“Spain, Morocco and Portugal for Christmas with Trafalgar ”
Just completed a dream Christmas holiday in winter! The weather was perfect in Spain, Portugal and Morocco. Our booking with Global Journeys was easy peasy and the staff very quick to respond to our questions and to help us out. Everything went so smoothly.

“Disappointing Trafalgar Traditional Europe Tour over Christmas”
Booking process and communications with Global Journeys was seamless and very easy and my consultant (Jemma) was always available and very helpful. Would not hesitate to recommend Global Journeys and book with them again in the future.
The Trafalgar Traditional Europe Tour was fast paced and reasonably disappointing overall with little consideration made in relation to lunches, which had to be purchased mainly at roadside Autogrills in the midst of pushing and shoving through massive queues of tourists and others travelling for the Christmas holiday break. The toilets at these stops were filthy and again having to line up in endless queues left little time to enjoy the break and the meal.
The majority of hotels along the way left much to be desired and were located quite a distance from the town centres and one hotel in particular was very dirty. After travelling most of the day on a bus and checking into your hotel after 6pm on most days, it would be better to offer hotel accommodation in the town so that travellers had some dinner options.
The most disappointing thing was that we were touring over Christmas and the New Year and the itinerary claimed to have organised special activities and meals for those days when the truth is nothing was arranged for us and the Tour Guide simply advised us that this was because everything was closed on Christmas Day so we spent 8 hours on the bus! NYE in Paris was the same with nothing having been organised by Trafalgar and our Hotel having been booked out for private functions so there was nowhere to go for dinner or to toast the NY.
My travel companions were great and thanks to them the tour was bearable but the Trafalgar Tour Director and Driver were absolutely dreadful. They spoke amongst themselves in Italian about the travellers on board and banished some of the travellers who had walking difficulties to the back of the bus so that they didn’t have to assist them! Unfortunately for the Trafalgar employees, some of the travellers spoke Italian and understood everything they said. The cities visited were beautiful but again due the time of year and traffic on the highways about 1/3 of the planned activities were cancelled.

“Amazing European Christmas Markets”
I would not hesitate to book through Global Journeys again. It was easy and stress free. Our tour was great. Our guide Agnes was wonderful, and nothing was too much trouble for her. She was very knowledgeable, and interesting to listen to. Our hotels were pretty good, although one did not provide free internet, which surprised us. The markets were amazing, even the shops joined in with the decorations. One thing to be aware of, not all of the Christmas markets were open. One in Munich opened the day we arrived, and Lucerne did not open until December 5th, so we missed that one. Overall, a lovely tour.

Just loved this tour. The UK has such an amazing variety of landscapes and cities. Thanks to our tour director Paul. Great driver always helpful. Would highly recommended this tour if time poor like I was, but if you have more time maybe a longer tour as I would have loved more time in each place. But so much squeezed into a short time. Will be back for more.

“Great guide and driver, just too many cathedrals”
I have used Global Journeys before and will use them again. Just don't think Trafalgar is for me. Would have liked more variety in sights. Optional dinners quite expensive. I didn't do many of them thankfully, but others that did were unimpressed.

This tour provided all the historical and geographical aspects that I had hoped for. Our guide, Etti, was fantastic and her knowledge gave us an insight into each place we visited. Our group of 22 travellers all got along well and some lasting friendships were made.The Trafalgar itinerary enabled us to visit all the sites at a comfortable pace and the accommodation was first class.

The Trafalgar Spanish Wonder tour was wonderful, exceeding expectations. It became obvious pretty quickly what an utterly professional operation this was. Everything was organised to the nth degree. Hotels were excellent and close to city centres, the specialist guides very informative and entertaining. Fellow travellers were great folk. What made this particular tour special though, as everyone seemed to agree, was the Tour Director. She was extraordinary. Very knowledgable, friendly, nothing too much trouble for her. Definitely would use both Trafalgar and Global Journeys again.

Before I book
When can I expect to get my travel documents & itinerary? How many people will be on my trip?
Travel documents, including any air tickets, tour itinerary, hotel lists, and helpful hints and other information are able to be unlocked approximately 3 weeks prior to departure. Your Global Journeys Travel Advisor can organise these earlier if you are travelling before your holiday starts.
Will I have free time?
You'll find an average of 40 to 45 guests on trips throughout Europe, and a maximum of 52 guests on trips throughout the United States and Canada.
What are the coaches like?
Each itinerary offers the perfect balance of downtime and discoveries. We also give you the opportunity to tailor your trip with Optional Experiences. You might choose to enjoy some of the best seats in the house at the world-famous Moulin Rouge in Paris. Or maybe take a magical early-morning balloon ride over the Napa Valley. Trafalgar's At Leisure tours offer a more relaxed pace, with later starts and longer stays in each place.
Are the hotels air conditioned?
We pride ourselves on having the finest fleet of fuel-efficient, fully air-conditioned coaches – all with reclining seats and on-board restrooms. The high vantage point from your coach's window means you can take in all the glorious scenery, whether it's a vast rural landscape or an urban city centre. We also have on board WiFi.
What is the single traveller supplement?
We select our hotels for their quality, impeccable service and comfort, with the majority of them having air-conditioning. Few hotels in the northern Alps or Europe have air conditioning due to the colder climate.
What if I have special dietary requirements?
If you prefer the privacy of your own room, you can opt for our single supplement. The cost will depend on your trip and can be found in the pricing section of the itinerary. On many of our trips we offer discounts on the standard single supplement. If you'd rather not incur the additional expense, consider our single traveller room share option. We'll accommodate you with a fellow guest of the same gender, on a twin-bed basis.
What is Gold Seal Protection?
We can accommodate guests who are vegetarian and can assist with diabetic, gluten-free and other medically-recommended diets. Please advise us at time of booking. Unfortunately, we're unable to supply meals in accordance with strict religious requirements. We can't provide salt-free, Kosher, Halal, requests for specific dietary supplements such as soya milk, and high protein or low-carb meals.
Gold Seal Protection is designed to provide you with peace of mind. For $99 per person, should you choose to cancel your guided holiday for any reason, prior to 30 days from departure date, Trafalgar will refund your deposit and/or guided holiday payment. Gold Seal Protection must be paid with the deposit and cannot be added at any later date. If you wish for us to include this protection in your quote, please let us know when completing your 'Quote Request'.
Before I depart
How much luggage can I bring? Are tips included?
You can bring one suitcase per person with the dimensions of 76cm x 46cm x 25cm (30" x 18" x 10") and weight not exceeding 23kg (50 lbs) due to the limited space on the coach. You can also bring one piece of hand luggage, provided it is small enough to take on the coach and does not have telescopic handles. All baggage handling is provided at no extra charge. One suitcase per person will be brought to your hotel room.
Will I need to pack formal clothes?
We'll check you in, look after your luggage and take care of all hotel porterage, tips and gratuities - whether it is for restaurant staff, chambermaids or porters. Please note that Travel Director and Drivers gratuities are not included in the trip cost. You have the option to add pre-paid gratuities on your booking - please request when you enquire with us and your Travel Advisor will include it in your quote.
This will depend on not only your personal preference, but the destinations you're visiting and the time of year you'll be travelling. We'd recommend bringing at least one smart outfit for special evenings.
On the road
What are Optional Experiences and when can I book them? Will I be able to get laundry done?
We realise that everyone likes some time to themselves, which is why we've left free time on all of our itineraries. If you want to get the most out of your destination, our Optional Experiences let you tailor your trip. Your Travel Director will tell you about all of the Optional Experiences available on the first day of your trip. Payment can be made by credit card or cash.
Is there seat rotation on the coach?
Most hotels do offer a laundry service and in some cities Laundromats are also available. However, it's sensible to try and pack enough clothing to avoid having to do laundry, as it can sometimes be costly or inconvenient.
What if I become ill on my trip and am unable to continue?
Yes, your Travel Director will implement a seat rotation system, whereby all guests will rotate their seats on the coach daily. This allows for everyone to experience the spectacular views from different seats, and you'll have a better opportunity to get to know your fellow travellers.
Your Travel Director will assist you with a doctor's visit or hospitalisation should you require. Trafalgar has a dedicated Customer Care Department in Europe, or their Operations Department in the relevant country will contact you to offer assistance and advice, coordinate with your travel insurance company and keep in touch until you are able to re-join the trip or return home. This service is included in the cost of your trip; however it is not a replacement for travel insurance, which Trafalgar strongly advise you to purchase.
Arrival & departure details
Transfers in Europe
All Trafalgar guests receive complimentary arrival and departure transfers by shuttle coach on the arrival and departure day of their guided holiday at specified times. Any guests whose flight times do not coincide with the shuttle coach transfer timings may choose to book and purchase a transfer. Additionally, guests arriving before or leaving after the scheduled holiday may also book and buy a transfer providing they also purchase the additional pre and post holiday hotel night(s) through Global Journeys & Trafalgar.
Trafalgar is pleased to offer complimentary airport transfers on our East Med itineraries, at any time either on the first or last day of the holiday or on other days in conjunction with pre and post trip accommodation booked through Global Journeys & Trafalgar. Transfers in London
Transfers can be expensive, particularly between the airport and your London hotel. Trafalgar has negotiated special group transfer rates from London's Heathrow Airport to the door of your Trafalgar London hotel - $75 per person per single trip to/from Heathrow Airport. For passengers flying into London's Gatwick Airport, Global Journeys & Trafalgar recommend the Gatwick Express, for details visit the Gatwick Express website at: www.gatwickexpress.com Trafalgar's Transfer Terms & Conditions
Transfers in Americas & Canada
- Global Journeys provides detailed flight information to Trafalgar no fewer than 21 days prior to departure. Once transfers are booked they cannot be changed.
- For London arrivals, you must stay at a London hotel booked by Trafalgar on the night of arrival and the night prior to your departure date.
- Trafalgar only includes one inbound and one outbound transfer.
- In the event of flight delays outside of Trafalgar's control, the transfers will be deemed to be cancelled.
- All transfers are based on group transfers. No refund is therefore available for missed transfers, or passengers not using this service.
- In the event of unforeseen events (such as road or rail works, strikes or demonstrations), Trafalgar will not be responsible for delayed or cancelled transfers.
With Trafalgar you will receive complimentary arrival and departure transfers on all holidays by shuttle, minivan, private car or taxi, between designated airports and hotels on the starting and ending day of your holiday. We regret that we are unable to provide complimentary transfers for anyone arriving before the scheduled starting day of the holiday and/or leaving after the scheduled ending day of the holiday.
