“Are you ready for your next adventure?”
The title was our tour director's saying at every stop and it became our slogan and inspiration to look forward to what new things we could learn, see or experience. Although not my first trip to Europe, it was for my family and it was awesome to experience it all over again. The trip offered all the standard highlights you should see as a first or new traveler.
Most of the hotels were average at best, with a (very) few which was really not great. The ski lodge outside Lucerne was amazing. Most breakfasts were great, but the included dinners were very basic except for the Christmas dinner in Lyon, so we found we did spend more money on food than expected. In our family of four, we do have quite a few food in tolerances and even though our tour director tried very hard to accommodate, it is not always easy or possible.
Most of the specialist guides were good to excellent, except for the one we had in Rome. Free time provided is adequate, but when deciding to go on a coach tour like this, it should be expected that schedules are tight and the focus is on the experience and environment. A point to call out; we celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary as well as my 50th during the trip and our tour director had made it extremely special.

Our trip started with Typhoon Hagibis coming through Tokyo. Whilst this was concerning our tour guide Yuki made everyone feel at ease and kept our moods buoyant for the days ahead.

“Britain and Ireland Delight”
We were looking to see as much as we could in a short time. This tour was great for seeing the highlights of these three countries. Would use Costsaver again.

Very interesting to hear all about the past and recent history in this region. All the local guides were very interesting and informative except for the one in Montenegro who was below par. This is a fast paced tour with some early morning starts. The scenery was wonderful in Croatia. The hotels although good were outside of the main city so if this is a problem then you would be better off with the higher priced Trafalgar tour. I mainly did this tour as it went to Medjorgje and many of the others don’t. The tour guide Jasmina and driver Dramir were both excellent.

“Fantastic New England Experience”
My wife Robyn and I thoroughly enjoyed our 10 Colours of New England tour with Costsaver. Our tour leader Amy was extremely knowledgeable and personable. Amy certainly ensured we had a pleasant time. The driver Alan was exceptional. His skills and experience certainly shone through. We'll certainly be travelling again. The accommodation was fine except that some were too far out of town. Overall we had a great time.

“Mark and Linda Davis review”
We were only able to complete 5 days out of the 24 days on our European Heritage tour as we had to fly home urgently due to a family bereavement. However , the time we spent on the tour was wonderful and we enjoyed every aspect. We intend booking the same tour next year to finish what we started. We are hoping we can get the $100 per couple discount for the next booking as we had to leave through no fault of our own. If you could confirm we will be eligible , that would be great. (GJ. “Costsaver by name, rich by experience ”
We had previously travelled with Trafalgar and were a bit worried that Costsaver wouldn't be as good. Our worries were groundless. This was basically a Trafalgar tour but staying in a lower standard of accommodation (mostly Ibis). The tour itself was exceptional. The itinerary, although a bit hectic was perfect. Our tour director Jeff was a bundle of energy who was determined to give everyone the best holiday they have ever had. There were so many highlights but my personal favourite would be cruising down the Danube at night past the beautiful Hungarian Parliament building in Budapest.

We really enjoyed the Turkey trip it was comprehensive and good value for money. I think next time there would be 2 things I would consider. We had 44 people on the tour and I would choose a smaller number of co travellers next time. Also it was fairly fast paced which meant except for stops which were 2 nights we had only one night stops which made it pretty tiring. Our guide was amazing he was such a wealth of knowledge and had been touring Turkey for 20 years so really knew his stuff. He handled a few hitches with people injurying themselves and having to go to hospital without any disruption to the tour. He was friendly and fun. Our driver was excellent and handled the huge bus with ease and accuracy. Overall we had an awesome trip and I would recommend Costsaver quality of hotels highly.

Before I book
What is the difference between Trafalgar's First Class and CostSaver European tours? When can I expect to get my travel documents & itinerary?
Both provide exceptional value for money, with the same professional service of a Tour Director and Driver and comfortable coaches. First Class tours include First Class Hotels, buffet breakfast daily and more sightseeing inclusions. CostSaver hotels are guaranteed Superior Tourist class or better and continental style breakfast daily.
How many people will be on my trip?
Travel documents, including any air tickets, tour itinerary, hotel lists, and helpful hints and other information are sent approximately 20 days prior to your tour departure. Your Global Journeys Travel Advisor can organise these earlier if you are travelling before your holiday starts.
Will I have free time?
You'll find an average of 40 to 45 guests on trips throughout Europe, and a maximum of 52 guests on trips throughout the United States and Canada.
What are the coaches like?
Each itinerary offers the perfect balance of downtime and discoveries. We also give you the opportunity to tailor your trip with Optional Experiences. You might choose to enjoy some of the best seats in the house at the world-famous Moulin Rouge in Paris. Or maybe take a magical early-morning balloon ride over the Napa Valley. Trafalgar's At Leisure tours offer a more relaxed pace, with later starts and longer stays in each place.
Are the hotels air conditioned?
We pride ourselves on having the finest fleet of fuel-efficient, fully air-conditioned coaches – all with reclining seats and on-board restrooms. The high vantage point from your coach's window means you can take in all the glorious scenery, whether it's a vast rural landscape or an urban city centre. We also have on board WiFi.
Can I book a group of friends?
We select our hotels for their quality, impeccable service and comfort, with the majority of them having air-conditioning. Few hotels in the northern Alps or Europe have air conditioning due to the colder climate.
What is the single traveller supplement?
Global Journeys take the hassle out of booking a group holiday - and we offer some great discounts for five or more people. Groups of five to eight people will receive 5% off the land-only part of their trip, and larger groups will save even more.
What if I have special dietary requirements?
If you prefer the privacy of your own room, you can opt for our single supplement. The cost will depend on your trip and can be found in the pricing section of the itinerary. On many of our trips we offer discounts on the standard single supplement. If you'd rather not incur the additional expense, consider our single traveller room share option. We'll accommodate you with a fellow guest of the same gender, on a twin-bed basis.
What is Gold Seal Protection?
We can accommodate guests who are vegetarian and can assist with diabetic, gluten-free and other medically-recommended diets. Please advise us at time of booking. Unfortunately, we're unable to supply meals in accordance with strict religious requirements. We can't provide salt-free, Kosher, Halal, requests for specific dietary supplements such as soya milk, and high protein or low-carb meals.
Gold Seal Protection is designed to provide you with peace of mind. For $99 per person, should you choose to cancel your guided holiday for any reason, prior to departure, Trafalgar will refund your deposit and/or guided holiday payment.
Gold Seal Protection must be paid with the deposit and cannot be added at any later date. If you wish for us to include this protection in your quote, please let us know when enquiring with us.
Before I depart
How much luggage can I bring? Are tips included?
You can bring one suitcase per person with the dimensions of 76cm x 46cm x 25cm (30" x 18" x 10") and weight not exceeding 23kg (50 lbs) due to the limited space on the coach. You can also bring one piece of hand luggage, provided it is small enough to take on the coach and does not have telescopic handles. All baggage handling is provided at no extra charge. One suitcase per person will be brought to your hotel room.
Will I need to pack formal clothes?
We'll check you in, look after your luggage and take care of all hotel porterage, tips and gratuities - whether it is for restaurant staff, chambermaids or porters. The option to pre-pay gratuities for the Travel Director and Driver is available. Please request this at the time of enquiry and your Travel Advisor will include it in your quote.
This will depend on not only your personal preference, but the destinations you're visiting and the time of year you'll be travelling. We'd recommend bringing at least one smart outfit for special evenings.
On the road
What are Optional Experiences and when can I book them? Will I need electrical adaptors?
We realise that everyone likes some time to themselves, which is why we've left free time on all of our itineraries. If you want to get the most out of your destination, our Optional Experiences let you tailor your trip. Your Travel Director will tell you about all of the Optional Experiences available on the first day of your trip. Payment can be made by credit card or cash.
Will I be able to get laundry done?
Electrical plugs and outlets differ throughout the world. We recommend bringing a universal travel adaptor that's suitable for the countries you are travelling to.
Is there seat rotation on the coach?
Most hotels do offer a laundry service and in some cities Laundromats are also available. However, it's sensible to try and pack enough clothing to avoid having to do laundry, as it can sometimes be costly or inconvenient.
What if I become ill on my trip and am unable to continue?
Yes, your Travel Director will implement a seat rotation system, whereby all guests will rotate their seats on the coach daily. This allows for everyone to experience the spectacular views from different seats, and you'll have a better opportunity to get to know your fellow travellers.
Your Travel Director will assist you with a doctor's visit or hospitalisation should you require. Trafalgar has a dedicated Customer Care Department in Europe, or our Operations Department in the relevant country will contact you to offer assistance and advice, coordinate with your travel insurance company and keep in touch until you are able to re-join the trip or return home. This service is included in the cost of your trip; however it is not a replacement for travel insurance, which we strongly advise you to purchase.
Arrival & departure details
Airport Transfers in Europe
All Trafalgar guests receive complimentary arrival and departure transfers by shuttle coach on the arrival and departure day of their guided holiday at specified times. Any guests whose flight times do not coincide with the shuttle coach transfer timings may choose to book and purchase a transfer. Additionally, guests arriving before or leaving after the scheduled holiday may also book and buy a transfer providing they also purchase the additional pre and post holiday hotel night(s) through Global Journeys & Trafalgar. Trafalgar is pleased to offer complimentary airport transfers at any time either on the first or last day of the holiday or on other days in conjunction with pre and post trip accommodation booked through Global Journeys & Trafalgar. Transfers in London
Transfers can be expensive, particularly between the airport and your London hotel. Trafalgar has negotiated special group transfer rates from London's Heathrow Airport to the door of your Trafalgar London hotel - $75 per person per single trip to/from Heathrow Airport. For passengers flying into London's Gatwick Airport, Global Journeys & Trafalgar recommend the Gatwick Express, for details visit the Gatwick Express website at: www.gatwickexpress.com Trafalgar's Transfer Terms & Conditions
- Global Journeys provides detailed flight information to Trafalgar no fewer than 21 days prior to departure. Once transfers are booked they cannot be changed.
- For London arrivals, you must stay at a London hotel booked by Trafalgar on the night of arrival and the night prior to your departure date.
- Trafalgar only includes one inbound and one outbound transfer.
- In the event of flight delays outside of Trafalgar's control, the transfers will be deemed to be cancelled.
- All transfers are based on group transfers. No refund is therefore available for missed transfers, or passengers not using this service.
- In the event of unforeseen events (such as road or rail works, strikes or demonstrations), Trafalgar will not be responsible for delayed or cancelled transfers.
