Itinerary

Kick off your adventure in historic, yet trendy Amsterdam. Soak up the buzz of bicycles and boats as you explore the old-world capital your way. That could mean joining an optional cruise along its tree-lined canals in a glass-topped boat. Stay: Ibis Schiphol

Wave goodbye to Amsterdam and head for Cologne, where you'll get your bearings with an orientation walk and lay eyes on the city's star attraction—the towering Gothic cathedral. There's time to grab lunch, snap a few pics, or just soak up the riverside vibes.

This afternoon, sit back and relax on a scenic Rhine River cruise to the charming village of St. Goar. Think castles, cliffs and storybook views around every bend. End your day in the heart of the Rhine Valley, where your comfy hotel stay awaits. (B/D) Stay: NH Mannheim Viernheim

History comes to life as you journey through the vineyards of Alsace to Colmar, which looks like it belongs in a Brothers Grimm fairy tale. Its half-timbered houses and cobbled alleyways could tell their own captivating stories. Enjoy time in this living postcard before continuing through the mountains near Lake Lucerne where you'll spend the next two nights. (B/D) Stay: City Brunnen

Your Travel Director will take you on an orientation tour through Lucerne's Old Town. Walk along the ancient wooden Chapel Bridge and visit the Lion Monument, which Mark Twain described as the 'most mournful and moving piece of stone in the world'. Let the 'heart' of Switzerland capture yours as you immerse yourself in its history and epic scenery.

With a full afternoon to explore this pretty lakeside setting on your own, you may decide to spend it shopping for watches, Swiss army knives or chocolate. You could choose instead to ascend to the alpine heavens, joining an optional scenic cruise across Lake Lucerne to Stans, then travelling by railway and cable car up into the mountains for exhilarating mountain views. (B)

Continue to Venice, once a maritime powerhouse and republic whose influences can be seen across the Eastern Mediterranean. You'll arrive just in time for an optional Gondola and Grand Canal cruise – grand palazzi, churches and ornate bridges line your journey. (B/D) Stay: LH Sirio Venice

Take to the waters of the canal and cruise by private launch to St. Mark's Square, the gateway to the city. Admire the ornate Doge's Palace, the Basilica of St. Mark and the Bridge of Sighs, whose bittersweet views once elicited sighs from prisoners who were unlikely to see their beloved city ever again. There's time on your own to explore the city before we visit master craftsmen at a glassblowing workshop, a MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® Experience. Consider joining a Choice Experience to the vibrant rainbow-coloured facades of Burano Island. (B)

Italy's capital city lies ahead and with it the promise of a journey into an ancient world, a holy empire and remnants of the Renaissance around every turn. Cross the Veneto plains and Apennine hills, admiring the Tuscan countryside as you travel south to Rome. The rest of your day is free to explore this magnificent City or join the group for a Choice Experience to see some of the city's sights, followed by a dinner of Italian specialities. (B) Stay: Ergife Palace

With so much to see and do, you could explore Rome for an eternity without getting bored. Join a Local Specialist and get to grips with the city's main attractions. See St. Peter's Basilica and the cosmopolitan throng of devoted pilgrims. (B)

The Bay of Naples calls, and you'll journey south, passing the historic Abbey of Monte Cassino, a site etched with the memories of fierce World War II battles, en route to the breath-taking region of Campania. Arriving in time to savour the afternoon, you may choose to take an optional drive along the enchanting Amalfi Coast, stopping in Positano, an artist's haven, where pastel-coloured houses cascade down the cliffs, their beauty mirrored in the sparkling Tyrrhenian Sea below. (B/D) Stay: Paradiso

Today, you're off on a breezy trip along the jaw-dropping Mediterranean coast to Sorrento - a town so charming it's been stealing hearts for centuries. Gone are the sirens of ancient legend, but the citrusy streets and knockout views await you at every turn. Spend the day your way - check out the historic harbour, hunt for hidden gems, or snack your way through local flavours. (B)

Don't miss the opportunity to join a Choice Experience to see the excavations of Pompeii in the shadow of Mount Vesuvius. Buried under ash when Vesuvius blew her top, Pompeii remains frozen in time and your Local Specialist will reveal what life was like as one of its former residents. Continue to Florence and check in to your hotel for an evening at leisure. (B/D) Stay: Starhotels Vespucci

No expense was spared to exalt the glory of Florence through art and architecture and you'll see first-hand how this city paved its way to a modern age. Join a Local Guide this morning for an enthralling account of the city's history during a walking tour of its historic centre, including views of Ponte Vecchio, the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, Giotto's Bell Tower and the Baptistery.

Visit Piazza della Signoria, the city's main square where many of the political and artistic treasures of the city can be seen. Admire panoramic views of the city from Piazzale Michelangelo then learn about the quality and workmanship of two of this city's historic industries at demonstrations of Florentine leathercraft and 18-carat gold. For a taste of Tuscany, consider joining a Choice Experience in the Tuscan hills with regional favourites, live music and a glass or two of crisp Chianti. (B)

Don't resist peer pressure and snap a few strategic photos featuring you and the extraordinary Leaning Tower of Pisa. Admire the Pisan Romanesque Square of Miracles in all its striped marble glory. Its structures are said to symbolise the three main stages of human life – the Baptistery (birth), the Cathedral (life) and the Camposanto (death).

Your journey west stretches out to the shimmering Mediterranean coast, where the Principality of Monaco awaits. Keep your cameras at the ready in this home of the rich and famous and attempt to capture the sophistication that seems to ooze from every corner. Next stop, the glamorous French Riviera. (B) Stay: Ibis Cannes Mandelieu

There's zero shame in kicking back on a sun lounger, cocktail in hand – but if you're up for something special, why not join today's Choice Experience to explore the picture-perfect hilltop town of Saint-Paul-de-Vence? All cobbled lanes, art galleries and Provençal charm, it's no wonder this place has drawn artists and A-listers for decades.

Take your time soaking it all in, but don't get too comfy – the Côte d'Azur is calling. With its sun-kissed promenades, glitzy beach clubs and sleek Ferraris cruising past, the French Riviera serves up serious style. Keep your eyes peeled – you never know who you'll spot lounging on a yacht or people-watching from a cafe terrace. (B)

A brief brush with the Papacy in the 14th century has gifted Avignon with some of the world's most incredible religious architectural legacies. The heart of Provence may no longer hold the importance that the Vatican does today, but views of its Palace of the Popes and St. Bénezet Bridge are no less inspiring.

Continue to the historic walled town of Beaune, in the heart of the Burgundy wine region and surrounded by the sprawling vineyards of Côte d'Or. You'll have an evening to get lost in its cobbled streets and sample the region's famous reds your way. (B) Stay: Greet Hotel Beaune

From Beaune, we'll head north to the opulence of Versailles – its splendour and beauty created to reflect the self-proclaimed majesty of King Louis XIV, the 'Sun King'. A Choice Experience could see you visit the exquisite sprawling gardens, the Hall of Mirrors with its impressive chandeliers and glinting mirrors. Carry on to Paris where you could join a Choice Experience, including a scenic drive stopping at all the best photo spots. (B) Stay: Ibis Alésia Montparnasse 14ème

The Parisians know a thing or two about beauty, elegance and a life well lived which your full day in Paris will deliver in abundance. Hit its grand boulevards on a city sightseeing tour with your Travel Director. See the Arc de Triomphe and Champs-Élysées then spend the rest of the day discovering the city on your terms.

Don't resist the urge to tread in the footsteps of Picasso and Dalí during an optional visit to Montmartre this afternoon, exploring its maze of streets and Artist's Square. There's time to shop for artwork and savour some local specialities before a real highlight this evening – an optional dinner and cabaret performance. (B)

Say a fond farewell to newfound friends at the end of your holiday. (B)

European Cavalcade   0 , New Zealand, Sep 2025
Thanks so much Global Journeys for helping me organise this trip. It exceeded our expectations and was a fantastic experience. We loved it.
Beautiful countryside and wonderful people. 3 , QLD, Australia, Aug 2023
What an amazing trip from start to finish. The Netherlands was fresh and with spectacular views where Rome was warmer in August but the history and places we visited were some of the greatest ancient ruins I have experienced. Tour guide was out standing with the greatest knowledge of the visited countries. The bus driver was a gem. Accommodations were read more of high standard and breakfasts plentiful. I recommend this trip to everyone and all ages. Would definitely travel with Costsavers again. Travelled with a mixture of people who were awesome.
Are you ready for your next adventure? 5 , NSW, Australia, Dec 2019
The title was our tour director's saying at every stop and it became our slogan and inspiration to look forward to what new things we could learn, see or experience. Although not my first trip to Europe, it was for my family and it was awesome to experience it all over again. The trip offered all the standard highlights you should see as a first or read more new traveler.

Most of the hotels were average at best, with a (very) few which was really not great. The ski lodge outside Lucerne was amazing. Most breakfasts were great, but the included dinners were very basic except for the Christmas dinner in Lyon, so we found we did spend more money on food than expected. In our family of four, we do have quite a few food in tolerances and even though our tour director tried very hard to accommodate, it is not always easy or possible.

Most of the specialist guides were good to excellent, except for the one we had in Rome. Free time provided is adequate, but when deciding to go on a coach tour like this, it should be expected that schedules are tight and the focus is on the experience and environment. A point to call out; we celebrated our 20th wedding anniversary as well as my 50th during the trip and our tour director had made it extremely special.
European Calvacade 6 , New Zealand, Jul 2019
It was an amazing experience, the tour director Raymond was well organised and very knowledgeable. Our driver and the tour group was the best crowd to spend 18 days with.
A great taste of Europe! 15 , NSW, Australia, Aug 2018
My partner and I thoroughly enjoyed our tour with Bern as our travel director. We visited all the major famous sights Europe has to offer, and more! While the days were long and demanding at times, it was totally worth it when we arrived at landmarks before all the other tour buses! The tour is designed for you to do as little or as much as you’d like, read more so my tip is make the holiday yours and get creative while being driven all over Europe! P.S. don’t be afraid to stray from the group and catch public transport once in a while!
Exciting adventure, well organised, stress free 6 , QLD, Australia, Apr 2017
Well, what a great adventure for us. From our initial booking with Yvonne to our wonderful Tour Director Bern and Driver Guiseppi, we did not have to worry about anything. The bus was comfortable, included meals were better than expected and with free time offered in so many wonderful places - it would be hard to beat. We were so lucky with beautiful read more weather and a great tour group made up of people from all over the world. We will definitely book again with Global Journeys and Trafalgar for our next adventure. If we can get Bern again as a Tour Director- that would be awesome!
An excellent trip for those with 4 weeks annual leave   14 , NSW, Australia, Dec 2016
A truly had a wonderful trip. We were a full coach and got on well. Most of us coming from the southern hemisphere were experiencing of first white Christmas and were prepared for it to be a lot more colder than what we experienced and although we didn't get to see fresh snow falling we did get to see it. (Attached photo is the view from my room in read more Switzerland). Lucerne and Mount Riga were definitely the highlights and I did like Venence where we went to the glass factory and watched an amazing glass blowing demostration as well going to the island of Burano famous for lace making.Other interesting places we went to were a French Perfume factory in Eze and the whilst in Inesbruk we had a tour at Swarovski Crystals. Pompeii was amazing and a beautiful day the added some sculptures around the grounds created a wonderful atmosphere. The best meal I had was in the Italian hills of Tuscany at a medieval winery in Sant' Andrea in Percussins. They brought out a whole rib eye and flambe it in front of us. It was New Year's Day when we were in Florence so unfortunately the museums were closed but we did get to try on some lovely Italian leather jackets and I brought an 18 carrot gold necklace to enhance a family heirloom. This was what made the trip special because if for some reason the itinerary needed to change we still experienced seeing interesting things.
Wonderful trip through Europe 4 , NSW, Australia, May 2016
We had a wonderful holiday our tour guide Sarah was very helpful and had everything well organised at all times. It was a busy tour but we saw so many amazing things. Coach and drivers were both very good.
Things aside I loved the tour 9 , NSW, Australia, Sep 2015
If our hotels are going to be out of town, then I would rather them be further out of town but with better amenities than just far enough to make visiting town difficult but with poor amenities. Also, every hotel should be family friendly. In some hotels they were obviously a cramped two-person room made even more cramped with an extra bed for a child. read more In Pompeii (which for me was going to be the highlight - it's the whole reason we picked that tour) the coach driver got lost and we turned up 30 minutes late. The local tour guide very clearly cut down our time in Pompeii because he had other tour groups to cater for. So we spent ages just sitting outside the ruins drinking orange juice and doing nothing. Then when I get on the coach again I found out that a few of the other tour passengers got to go back inside and look at the ruins during this time. No one told us. I was very upset as was my family. These things aside I loved the tour, but it does upset me that the key thing I wanted to see on the tour was ruined.
Everything on our bucket list was ticked off! 8 , QLD, Australia, Sep 2015
Our European Cavalcade experience really was the trip of a lifetime. Everything on our bucket list was ticked off!! We had a fantastic tour guide, Esther and very safe driver Mario. They contributed to a very memorable trip. We saw a lot more in 18 days than we would have expected. We skipped queues, and were at places early enough to see what was important read more before the huge crowds. We did nearly all the optional tours which we recommend because then you experience everything there is to do in that location. The pace was great. We went as a family with teenage children and had plenty of free time. It is surprising how much free time you have to relax or explore on your own. Esther was very knowledgeable, informative and helpful, and we learnt more on this trip than we did in all our years of school! Mario kept the bus impeccably clean and we felt safe with his driving. The accommodation ranged from average to fabulous. We always had a comfortable bed and clean room/ensuite. The included meals were good, and the optional tour meals were exceptional. The group we travelled with all got along and have each become friends and we hope to keep in touch. Overall we highly rate this tour and would do it again and again.
