As their name suggests, Back-Roads focus on regional tours off the beaten track across Europe, the UK and Ireland. They're actually owned by Flight Centre Group, and known as Blue-Roads in North America, and with a maximum group size of 18, they offer a relaxed, well-organised way to explore beyond the main tourist routes. The small group size is a major part of their appeal, with our past guests enjoying the chance to get to know their fellow travellers, along with their varied itineraries that blend history, scenery, local food and cultural experiences with smaller character hotels and distinctive stays.

How would you describe the accommodation on your trips?
Characterful accommodation including country inns, town-centre hotels, villas, historic properties and occasionally castles.
Are there any extras to pay on top of the tour price shown?
Arrival and departure transfers, meals and drinks not specified and optional activities.

Yes. Tours are accompanied by an expert Back-Roads Tour Leader throughout the journey.

Tours are deliberately leisurely paced and balance included sightseeing with regular free time for independent exploration.
How fit do we need to be?
Travellers should be able to walk upstairs unassisted and manage normal sightseeing on foot. Historic accommodation may not have lifts, and some itineraries involve walking on uneven surfaces.

In creating our small group tours, we are driven by two guiding principles. First, everything we do is about your experience, which is why we only run tours with a maximum of 20 people – read more that’s less time waiting, more time exploring. A family business based in Adelaide, Bunnik made a name for themselves in small group touring through Egypt, and now travel to all corners of the globe. All of their trips include return flights to and from Australia, so take this into account when comparing prices with other small group operators. Bunnik tours have been specifically designed for 'the not too young and not too old' with group sizes set to a maximum of 20, and in Africa even smaller groups of 12. Bunnik trips are currently only offered to Australian residents.

Accommodation ranges from well-located hotels to smaller boutique properties and distinctive local stays. In-Style tours use 5-star accommodation.

Classic Tours include international and internal flights, transport, accommodation, many meals, entrance fees and tipping, while Short Tours exclude airfares. Optional excursions, some meals and drinks and single supplements cost extra.

How much free time will we have on a Bunnik trip?
All tours include free time for independent exploration, with itineraries designed to balance included sightseeing and local experiences with time to explore on your own.
How fit do we need to be?
A good level of fitness and mobility is required. Travellers must generally be able to walk for 4–5 hours a day at group pace on uneven surfaces, manage stairs and hills, carry their own luggage where necessary and use varied forms of transport without assistance.
Recent Bunnik reviews
The bus was large, brand new and had a water cooler on board. Complimentary wifi and charging ports were also available on the bus. The bus driver (Dushan) and his assistant (Tharindu) also took fantastic care of us throughly the entire journey.
This compact tropical island packs a punch and is definitely worth travelling to, best done ‘in style’. Accommodation standouts were Shangri-La Colombo, Le Grande Galle and Water Garden Sigiriya.
Our tour guide, Charmi, introduced us to a wide variety of Sri Lanka’s culture and history and we read more gained some understanding of life in Sri Lanka. The Sri Lankan countryside and our adventures in the National Parks were wonderful. Ten out of ten for this trip.
