When Marion Bunnik started Bunnik Tours, Australia didn't need another tour company - it needed a better way of touring! In an industry dominated by large multinationals and mass tourism, Bunnik Tours stands alone. Our aim is simple, to provide a better way for Australians to see the world. As a family business we understand that our family's name and reputation is at stake every time we sell a holiday. That's why we're proud to call these tours our own.
Bunnik's maximum group size is just 20, and even less for some tours in Asia & Africa. For us small groups make for a better holiday experience. They are more personal and you spend less time waiting and more time enjoying your holiday. Small groups are better for sustainability too! We get to visit smaller local businesses on our travels and stay in smaller centrally-located properties which are often impractical for large groups.
For Bunnik, it's all about providing you with flexibility to create your dream holiday which is why they provide both small group tours that include international airfares from Australia as well as land only small group tours. Their airfares have built-in flexibility so you're able to extend your stay, fly in or out of other cities or upgrade your flights to business or first class.
For tours where return international airfares have not been included, chat to our friendly Global Journeys Travel Advisors for the best advice. We have access to some fantastic fares.
While smaller groups mean you'll enjoy plenty of space on-board your coach, you can also expect plenty of variety as you explore the world with Bunnik. you'll travel on camels in Egypt, and on traditional boats in the Amazon, Egypt and Turkey.
While in other parts of the world, we Bunnik the most amazing collection of jeeps, old Chevys, cyclos and rickshaws.
Small group touring is about being shown around by locals and really capturing the essence of the destination. It means seeing the famous attractions but also wandering off the tourist trail. So much more than just a coach tour, you'll experience the culture, meet the locals and savour the wonderful food.
That's why we also include a range of experiences designed to capture the essence of the places we visit. Experiences like enjoying lunch with a local family in a small rural village in Sri Lanka, making Pizza in Sorrento, Italy, travelling by traditional style boats or exploring the deserts of India, Jordan and Morocco by camel!

Bunnik group tours have been specifically designed for ‘the not too young and not too old’. There are lots of tour companies out there catering for the younger party crowd or the older traveller, so we like to think of our tours as being for the forgotten age group in between, that’s people aged 45-65. However, we have many people enjoying our tours who are younger than 45 and older than 65. That being said, we also recognise that some travellers may find our itineraries challenging. We therefore require all our passengers to complete a fitness to travel declaration as part of their passenger registration.
Group size is important when travelling. When we say small groups we mean it. We limit our group sizes to a maximum of 20 across all our small group tours. Some regions like Africa offer even smaller groups of 12! Small groups mean less time waiting and more time enjoying your holiday.
Our international tours are not escorted from Australia. If a tour includes airfares, all travellers will be met on arrival at the airport by a local representative and the tour will begin from there. However, we do organise a limited number of escorted tours each year and these are advertised accordingly. For domestic tours, a representative from Bunnik Tours will join and will meet all travellers at the hotel on the first day of the tour.
Single travellers are welcome on all our tours and make up a fair number of our passengers. A single supplement is applicable on all single room bookings, this can be viewed on the trip page. To view solo pricing, select the option from the dropdown which sits just above the pricing table. Alternatively your quote from Global Journeys travel advisor will reflect the correct pricing based on the number of travellers you enter when making an enquiry with us.
Children aged 14 and over can travel on Bunnik's group tours.
If your tour is cancelled, we will endeavour to re-accommodate you on an alternate tour departure. In the event this doesn’t suit you, we will provide you with either a travel credit or a refund, excluding any third-party costs.
In many parts of the world tipping is a customary practice and often makes up a large part of people’s wages so it’s important to get it right. Our 'tipping made easy' program is a simple system that sees us collect tips at time of booking. We then pay these tips to our local staff and they take care of them to ensure that they are evenly distributed. Easy! Please note, on tours where ‘tipping made easy’ operates, it is compulsory that all tour members participate.
All group tours include pre-paid tipping. For countries such as Japan where tipping is not customary, pre-paid tipping is not included, nor expected. Independent and extension packages do not include tipping and it is therefore at your discretion to complete locally.
Yes, of course. For tours that already include airfares we will just add a supplement amount to the quote for the upgrade which will be due in addition to and at the same time as the progress payment.
Certainly. Even if the tour you're interested in includes airfares, we will also have a 'Land Only' price which excludes the airfares. Please let your Global Journeys travel advisor know when enquiring and we will be able to advise the 'Land Only' price.
Two reasons – firstly, when we have a tour that includes airfares we use special wholesale fares which are generally as competitive if not cheaper than the advertised specials. Secondly, if we book the flights and the tour is cancelled for any reason, we will look after the flights. If we do not book the flights and the tour is cancelled by us, change and/or cancellation fees may be charged by the airlines.
Yes, of course. We can book any airline, any dates and any itinerary to fit with other travel arrangements. There may be a difference between the fare booked compared to what is included with the tour (if applicable), so a supplement may apply. Please keep in mind that some airlines have shorter holding times so the progress payment may be brought forward to coincide with the deadline provided by the airline.
All airlines have different policies on seating. If you're booking a tour that includes airfares, please ask your Global Journeys travel advisor if the flight booking is eligible to pre-select seating. Some airlines charge a fee for this, which can be done on the airline’s website once the flights have been ticketed.
For all tours, except our short tour range, airport transfers are included within the price of your tour. This also extends to if you complete pre or post nights, when booked through Bunnik Tours & Global Journeys.
Yes, however this may incur an extra fee depending on the location of the railway station. Please ask your Global Journeys travel advisor for more details.
Everything from an air-conditioned coach to a rickshaw or a traditional boat! Each tour page will show a list of the transport types used. Please note, as part of our fitness to travel policy, you will need to be able to get on and off various modes of transport without assistance, and in Africa you'll be required to drive along very bumpy roads for extended periods of time.
On tours where airfares are included, generally there will be an allowance of 23 kg checked baggage and 7 kg carry-on, even though some airlines will allow more than this. This is due to the baggage allowances for the buses used on our tours. Some tours will have more restrictive baggage allowances, especially in Africa, so please check with your travel advisor. Please note, as part of our fitness to travel policy you are required to be able to carry your own luggage.
In some cases, it is possible, but standard package price will still apply. Please understand that you may be required to make your own way to the start or end point if transfers are not available.
Of course! We offer a range of pre and post tour add on options as well as extensions and stopovers. The options are endless, just ask your your Global Journeys travel advisor at the time of booking.
On our tours we use good quality 3-5 star hotels. Rather than concentrate solely on star ratings and creature comforts, we choose our hotels based on the following criteria: cleanliness, great service, atmosphere and location. If a more luxurious hotel with a higher star rating is preferred, we offer a range of ‘In-Style’ group tours in certain regions.
Some hotels we use on our tours may include tea and coffee facilities in the rooms. In Europe and where possible, we choose our hotel based on location meaning there are generally local cafes and restaurants close by to enjoy a coffee with the locals. To ensure you aren't disappointed though, we suggest packing a travel kettle and some tea/coffee with you.
Due to Bunnik's contracted year-round rates with our ground operators and for the comfort of all guests, we are not able to offer triple share rooms. The best option in this case is to book one twin/double room and a single room. We can then request with our ground operators for interconnecting rooms which will be subject to availability upon check in.
Many meals are included on our tours and these will be specified on the itinerary and are listed in our e-brochure and on our website. We include many meals, but not all of them, so that everyone has the option to sample some local cuisine and experience the local culture.
On some Bunnik Tours there may be a few early starts to make the most of the day’s sightseeing. Breakfast is included daily, and the guide will always make sure that the hotel provides a buffet breakfast or breakfast box to takeaway.
Bunnik's team of expert Product Specialists plan every itinerary to create the perfect balance between organised sightseeing and free time to explore the local destination.
This will depend on the destination and personal spending habits. However, AU $50 (or equivalent) per person per day is usually enough to cover additional meals and expenses in Asia, India & Sri Lanka, the Middle East, and South/Central America. For Europe, AU $75 (or equivalent) per person per day should be adequate.
While a lot of places tend to accept USD as a form of payment, this is not always the best option for many reasons. Generally, the best currency to take is the local currency of the destination/s visited. Most travellers tend to bring a smaller sum of cash with them for incidentals for the first few days and exchange money along the way.
At Bunnik Tours we don’t put specific age limits on our tours, but we also recognise some travellers may find our itineraries challenging. We have a duty of care to all tour participants and our tour guides, so we do impose a firm policy on the level of fitness required by all of our clients to attempt to ensure your safety and the safety of other travellers on our tours.
Yes, all travellers must have adequate travel insurance for all international destinations (domestic is at your discretion). Unfortunately, this is not a choice, it’s compulsory as we’d hate for something to happen and you weren't covered.
Bunnik Tours does not recommend the use of credit card travel insurance, but we do accept it. It's important to carefully check the Product Disclosure Statement from the credit card provider for restrictions such as pre-existing medical conditions, minimum spend required to activate the policy and any other items that are important. If credit card travel insurance is selected, please provide your travel advisor with the policy number, the underwriter and the emergency assistance contact details.
Yes, we can cater to most dietary requirements. Please let us know at the time of booking so that we can request this with our local operators. While we do our best to accommodate individual needs, not all requests can be guaranteed.
