Itinerary

A brief interlude with the British capital this morning sees us meet our Travel Director before travelling to London's St. Pancras International where we will board the Eurostar™ for a high-speed train journey to Brussels and a luxury coach journey to Amsterdam. Enjoy an orientation of this historic Dutch city before joining your fellow travellers and Travel Director for a Welcome Reception dinner cruise on its canals. (WR) Stay:

Driving through the lush landscapes of the Netherlands and Germany, we arrive in Boppard where we board a cruise along the Rhine to St. Goar, passing vineyard-clad hills and medieval castles perched above riverside towns. Arriving in the Baroque city of Heidelberg, we explore its iconic and unexpected highlights before travelling to your hotel. (B/D) Stay: Leonardo

Crossing the Swabian Alps on the edge of the Black Forest, we arrive in the Bavarian capital of Munich. Our orientation takes us past the Hofbrauhaus, reputedly the most famous Beerhall in the world, and the neo-Gothic Town Hall which dominates the Marienplatz. We cross the Austrian border next, arriving in Innsbruck, the capital of the Alps. Admire the Gothic, Renaissance and Baroque architecture of the Old Town, including Emperor Maximilian's famous Golden Roof with its ornate façade and consider an evening of traditional Tyrolean entertainment. (B) Stay: Rumer Hof

Journey through the emerald-green landscape along the Brenner Pass into Italy and across the Dolomite Mountains to Venice. We cruise the beautiful Venetian lagoon by private launch to the gateway of Venice, St. Mark's Square. View the ornate Doge's Palace and the Bridge of Sighs, so named for the sound made by condemned prisoners as they took one last longing look at their beautiful city before meeting their fate.

Then, Dive Into Culture and enjoy a MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® Experience where you’ll witness the centuries-old craft of Venetian glassblowing. You’ll learn how the master craftsmen shape the molten glass to make the exquisite and delicate works of art that adorn homes all over the world and perhaps be inspired to buy your own souvenir as a reminder of this special visit. There’s time later to enjoy the city your way. Get lost in Venice, cross bridges and discover hidden campi where locals share their daily stories over a glass of Venetian Spritz. (B) Stay: Novotel Mestre Castellana

Travel south across the Veneto Plain, passing Bologna and the dramatic Apennine Mountains as well as the green and golden fields of Lazio before reaching Rome, the 'Eternal City'. En route, we Connect With Locals over lunch at a Be My Guest experience and enjoy true Tuscan hospitality with a local family on their private estate in the Chianti countryside. (B/BMG) Stay: Barceló Aran Mantegna

Our first stop today sees us discover the divine beauty of the Vatican City. We'll visit St. Peter's Basilica with a Local Specialist to view Michelangelo's Renaissance masterpiece, the Pietà. We continue to Ancient Rome to view the iconic Colosseum and Circus Maximus, once the site of exhilarating chariot races centuries ago. The afternoon is yours to explore the city on your terms. Sit on the Spanish Steps savouring a tasty gelato, shop up a storm on the trendy Via Corso or perhaps join an Optional Experience to see the magnificent frescoed ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. (B)

From Rome, we travel north through the rolling countryside of Tuscany and along the Arno valley to the 'Cradle of the Renaissance', Florence. Delve into the rich Medici heritage of this beautiful medieval city with your Local Specialist. Visit what was once the political hub of the city, Piazza della Signoria, with its impressive sculptures and stunning palazzi. View the imposing Duomo, crowned by Brunelleschi’s dome, and the Baptistery, renowned for its sculptured bronze doors. (B) Stay: Grand Mediterraneo

Drive via the scenic Italian Lakes District, across the Alps into beautiful Switzerland, where we'll spend the next two nights in the medieval lakeside city of Lucerne. Tonight, why not consider an optional Swiss Folklore Show? (B) Stay: Astoria

This morning, view the mournful, mortally wounded lion hewn from rock to commemorate the Swiss Guards who lost their lives defending Louis XVI. Walk along the flower-lined 14th-century covered Chapel Bridge, crossing the river Reuss. Or join an exciting Optional Experience to one of the surrounding peaks for breathtaking views of the Swiss countryside. We have some time later to discover the best Swiss chocolates in town. (B/D)

Crossing the border into France this morning, we travel past the picturesque vineyards and country towns of Burgundy en route to the 'City of Lights'. Spend some time this evening strolling along the Seine and grand boulevards in search of a cosy bistro for fine French cuisine or consider an Optional Experience to a colourful Parisian cabaret. (B) Stay: Renaissance La Défense

Join a Local Specialist today for a sightseeing tour of this romantic city. View the sophisticated Champs-Élysées, Place de la Concorde, the 19th-century Arc de Triomphe, honouring those who fought for France, and Notre Dame Cathedral, then enjoy a stroll through the Latin Quarter. Our European Whirl almost at its end, we spend the evening with fellow travellers and our Travel Director, enjoying a Farewell Dinner in a local bistro. (B/FD)

Travel past poignant World War I battlefields to the coast and board a cross-channel ferry to Dover, where we are greeted by the famous white cliffs. We continue by local coach to London where our amazing adventure ends. (B)

Memorable Experience 1 , WA, Australia, Dec 2022
We had awesome holiday. Everything went so smoothly. Our Trafalgar tour guide, Brendon Bush, went beyond expectations. He'll make sure everyone been taken care of and he's attention to detail and knowledge of histories was amazing. Our driver, Alec, was amazing as well. Feel safe with him drove us around. Didn't even feel motion sick, which I normally read more do. Well done and thank you to Trafalgar, Brendon and Alec
European Whirl 5 , NSW, Australia, Nov 2022
Warning: this is definitely only a tour for those happy to get up and moving early day after day! Because it covers a huge amount of ground in a short amount of time, this is the only way this tour can operate. That said, the trip was superbly organised, the tour director was fabulous and the coach driver was amazing...especially in Paris! You see many read more major cities in a very short amount of time, not much of them but certainly the iconic parts....giving you a good idea of where you might like to spend more time in the future. I would thoroughly recommend it. Lucerne and Switzerland in general was definitely the highlight for me...SO beautiful.
European Whirl   4 , QLD, Australia, Oct 2022
What a way to see some lovely cities across parts of Europe! I went on this tour with no expectations other than to open my eyes to to new places and people and was not disappointed. There were far too many highlights to name however Venice and Lucerne took my breath away. The accommodation in each city was sufficient with some being a lot better read more than others but you have to expect that when travelling in a large group. Autumn in Europe is a beautiful time of year to travel with the beautiful colours and pleasant weather. As as a person who lives alone and likes being on their own, I was so pleased to have 48 others to travel with and would highly recommend booking a Trafalgar tour through Global Journeys. Took all the hard work out of doing everything myself.
Wonderful Winter Holiday 2 , New Zealand, Jan 2018
The trip was very fast paced and packed a lot of sights in. Jella the Tour Director was fantastic and there were no issues on the site. I am still amazed at how many sights we saw. We did most of the optional tours and loved them all. Moulin Rouge was exceptional and so was the Mountain Cable Car in Lucerne. We would recommend this trip to all. read more The weather was very, very good for that time of the year. All the hotels were excellent.
Sistine Chapel was the one to remember 1 , NSW, Australia, Mar 2017
This was the best trip I had due mainly to Tour Director, Driver and my fellow travellers. For travellers who want to see as much as possible in a short space of time this tour is the best there is. However, one needs to be pretty fit as it sets a grueling pace. All the places we visited had something memorable to offer but the Sistine Chapel was the read more one to remember for me. I am looking for a tour in Eastern Europe preferably with the same tour Director, he was excellent! So thank you Global Journeys!
European Whirl 1 , Qld, Australia, Mar 2017
Tour was most enjoyable, extremely well organised and efficiently carried out. The Tour Director was very easy to get along with and the Driver received spontaneous applause for his driving in Paris and Rome, where chaos reigned supreme on the roads! The one disappointment for us was the Hotel in Rome. A tiny room with a single bed with a trundler bed read more on the floor with a wafer thin mattress. It was not really suitable for a 72 year old, getting up and down. The air conditioning either did not work or was set at a high temperature and several calls to the front desk were not successful in lowering the temperature, so we had to open a window at the end of the room for some relief. The bedding on the trundler consisted of 2 sheets and the following day a blanket was added! This was not very appropriate. The hotel could not supply an additional pillow, as they were all sold out!
European Whirl 1 , QLD, Australia, Nov 2016
The trip was exactly as expected , a whirl through Europe. The tour was better than expected with many hidden delights along the way. The Tour director Kevin made the trip with his vast knowledge and keen sense of humour . There were many times he could quite easily have got frustrated with us but he kept his wit and charm. We now have a good understanding read more of where we will return to.
An amazing introduction to Europe 2 , NSW, Australia, Jan 2016
This trip was an amazing introduction for us to Europe. The trip was well organised and fun. My wife and I enjoyed it very much. The tour director was knowledgeable about the places we went to, organised, and very helpful - he displayed a conscious effort to help us get the most of our journey.
Fantastic trip through Europe!   1 , NSW, Australia, Jan 2016
We had an incredible time away in Europe, what a whirlwind! A fantastic company, well organised, great accommodation, wonderful places and fabulous itinerary. Thank you again to Yvonne who always does a magnificent job in organising everything from accommodation, flights etc. Thank you again!
Tour schedules run exceptionally well 1 , Australia, Nov 2013
The tour schedules between locations run exceptionally well. The tour was organised and whatever the weather was, we got the most of it. I was expecting less on all accommodations, but they were excellent....roomy and clean.
