This evening, join your Travel Director and fellow travellers for a welcome meeting and light dinner to kick off your holiday. (D) Stay: Imperial Riding School

We cross the border to Slovenia. Join a Local Specialist for a sightseeing tour to see Ljubljana's Opera House, Cathedral, Three Bridges Square and Castle. This evening, we dine at our hotel. (B/D) Stay: One66

Arrive at Lake Bled, an exquisite natural retreat set against the backdrop of forests and mountains. During your free time, you could consider taking a boat trip on its crystal clear waters to admire the castle, which clings dramatically to a cliff rising up from the lake's edge. (B)

We cross into Croatia and travel to its capital, Zagreb – our home for the next two nights. Join a Local Specialist who will share the landmarks of the city's Lower and Upper Town, including the Gothic Cathedral, the Archbishop's Palace, the Opera House and St. Mark's Church, with its exquisitely coloured roof. You'll have a free evening to spend as you wish. Consider heading to Tkalčićeva Street to enjoy the lively evening atmosphere. (B) Stay: Zonar Zagreb

Take time to explore a tale of two hilltop settlements and Zagreb's scenic cityscape, to this day lit by gas lamps in the Upper Town. Spend the day on your own, paying homage to the patron saint of Zagreb at its Stone Gate, or enjoying the city views from Strossmartre. (B/D)

Crossing the border into Hungary, we enjoy a photo stop on the shores of Lake Balaton, the largest lake in Central Europe and affectionately known by locals as the 'Hungarian Sea'. We continue to the romantic capital of Budapest – our home for the next two nights. Perhaps, sail along the Danube on a scenic river cruise, enjoy a dinner of traditional Hungarian dishes and breath-taking views, or relax in the healing waters of the Szecheyni Spa Bath as the sun sets. (B) Stay: Ensana Thermal Margaret Island

Today, we join a Local Specialist for a walking tour of the Castle district to admire picture-perfect views of the Danube and Fisherman's Bastion. Cross the Danube to continue your sightseeing in Pest, seeing the imposing Parliament and the Great Synagogue, the largest in Europe.

This evening we meet a local family of winemakers, who pride themselves on their organic production. Enjoy their home smoked Mangalica ham and hear their unique family story at our BMG Experience. (B/D)

The exquisite natural landscape of Slovakia provides a scenic backdrop for our journey to Poland, past the foothills of the Tatra Mountains. We arrive in the enchanting city of Kraków. Consider an evening of lively Polish entertainment with dinner, or perhaps visit a traditional Polish Wódka Bar. (B) Stay: Novotel Centrum

Enjoy a leisurely walk through the beautiful streets of Kraków today with your Local Specialist, taking in highlights such as the Royal Castle and Cathedral on Wawel Hill, recognised as one of Poland's most historically and culturally significant sites. Later today, arrive in the elegant Polish capital, Warsaw, and enjoy dinner at your hotel. (B/D) Stay: Radisson Blu Sobieski

Connect with the youthful energy of Warsaw, a city that has triumphed over the tragedy of war and the shackles of communism. This morning, we join a Local Specialist visiting the Old Town, which the Nazis destroyed to retaliate against the Warsaw Uprising. You'll also see the site of the Warsaw Ghetto, immortalised in the Roman Polanski film – 'The Pianist'. Spend the rest of the day exploring the sights on your own, or celebrate the talents of Chopin during a private recital of Chopin's works. (B)

Journey across Poland's patchwork countryside along the Autostrada Wolności (Motorway of Freedom) which was first initiated by Nazi Germany to connect Berlin with Poland and left unfinished for decades after World War II. Continue west into Germany and arrive in Berlin, a capital city with an enviable youthful verve and charisma. Here you'll enjoy an evening at leisure to explore the city your way, or join us for a truly memorable optional evening in former West Berlin. (B) Stay: AC by Marriott

Later, enjoy free time to explore Berlin your way. Perhaps discover the treasures of Museum Island or simply unwind in one of the city's leafy parks or cafes. If you'd like to dive deeper, join an Optional Experience to uncover more of Berlin's history with a Local Specialist. (B)

Travel through the Spreewald Forest to Dresden - its iconic domes and spires almost entirely rebuilt after the Allied Forces left their deep scars on the city during World War II. Hear about its restoration during your orientation tour as you stroll through its streets to see the Semper Opera, Zwinger Palace and fully reconstructed Frauenkirche.

We leave Germany behind and travel to the Czech Republic, arriving later in glorious Prague, straddling the mighty Vltava. Spend your evening savouring hearty Czech flavours during a Regional Dinner at a local restaurant. (B/D) Stay: Vienna House Diplomat

Fantastic underrated countries and cities 2 , NSW, Australia, Jun 2023
Fantastic, underrated countries and cities with good weather in June with less crowds than during summer peak. Would recommend this trip.
Amazing trip to Central Europe   2 , NSW, Australia, Sep 2022
Our travel director Dean Smart and the two drivers we had were exceptional. They were very well organised, knowledgeable and friendly which made the trip an amazing experience. The itinerary was well planned. All hotels were good to excellent standard. Optionals were a little too much. If we were to do them all like some of our fellow travellers then read more it would be very tiring. So it's a good idea to pick and choose what you really want and stick to your plan. We liked the fact that we had two night stay in each city which gave us time to rest and/or explore on our own. Booking through Global Journeys was a breeze and Georgie was always quick to respond with all our questions and requests. Overall it was a great trip and I would definitely travel with Trafalgar and book with Global Journeys again.
Wonderful experience travelling through eastern europe   5 , VIC, Australia, Sep 2019
Travelled with trafalgar and right from the moment of meeting the travel director it was obvious it was going to be fabulous. We had a mixed age range of fellow guests mainly from Aus, Can and USA and everyone got on like a house on fire and bonded quickly. I cant recommend this trip highly enough. Slovenia was a bonus and a surprise package for us. Loved everything we did.
Highlights of Eastern Europe Trip August-September 2019 5 , TAS, Australia, Aug 2019
This was our second trip with Trafalgar. The tour was as expected and with the 2 night stopovers there was no real rush, although you can be a the coach for some hours. The places we visited were really good with lots to see and do. Granted you can't see all that's in a particular place but we were given enough time to see the main bits with and without read more the local guides.

The hotels were good, breakfasts were mostly pretty good and the dinners, when included, for the most part were good. The group of about 42 on the tour got on quite well. There were people from Australia, America, Arman, Bahamas as well as others, both single and couples. Some travelled in groups of four and three and they tendered for keep to themselves when at dinners and some events.

Overall this was a good tour at a good price. Yes, there were times it could have been better planned but some things are always out of the control of the tour operator or tour director.
Fascinating journey through Eastern Europe. 2 , New Zealand, Jul 2019
This tour had it all - history in abundance from former Communist countries, world wars and the Holocaust, amazing architecture, spectacular natural scenery especially in Slovenia, regional food, art, music. Every stop was for 2 nights which made for a more relaxed pace. The weather in July was perfect - not too hot. The hotels were very comfortable read more and mainly centrally located. The spa hotel in Budapest was especially delightful.

Our tour director was amazing displaying excellent knowledge and always approachable and our driver very accomplished. Travelled with a friendly group of people with no hassles. An absolutely brilliant tour which catered to a diverse range of interests and was just heaps of fun. Loved it!
The Best Tour Ever 4 , VIC, Australia, Jun 2019
We had the most amazing time on this Trafalgar tour made more great by our guide Kate. Her knowledge, generosity and experience made this tour our best ever. Everything from the food to the sights to the hotels was excellent.
Fabulous and thought provoking 6 , WA, Australia, May 2019
This was a wonderful trip with a great group of people and a fantastic guide. I was not fully prepared for the emotional journey I was about to undertake, visiting Hungary, Poland and Berlin in Germany was particularly enlightening. I think everyone should make the journey to Eastern Europe at some stage, to learn about the horrors of the holocaust read more and the difficulties of communism. It certainly made us appreciate our blissful lives in Australia, having never had to deal with such terrible pain.

The guide through Auschwitz was particularly sensitive and she really brought home the ordeal and terror that the Jewish community and others, endured under the Nazis. As I said, it really is a must for us all who enjoy freedom.

The accommodation was all good and our guide, Dean, worked so hard to make the journey memorable. I would recommend travelling with Trafalgar, and certainly booking through Global Journeys, specifically Hannah, who made all the arrangements for us without a hitch.
A worthwhile trip 3 , ACT, Australia, May 2019
An excellent journey with a wonderful group, tour director and driver. Unfortunately due to an emergency we had to leave the tour two thirds of the trip. Despite that we had enjoyed our time seeing several magnificent cities, scenery, with fantastic commentaries of culture and history.
Eastern Europe delight 9 , NSW, Australia, Sep 2018
We booked the Highlights of Eastern Europe trip having toured with Trafalgar several times before. The 2 night stays in each main city provided a good amount of time to do our own thing on the second afternoon at most stops. The cities were spectacular, hard to choose a best place, with Budapest, Prague, Berlin and Lake Bled all vying for top spot. read more The Tour Director, Justine, and driver Sandor were both top quality. There were quite a few Optional Experiences on the tour, including several extra city experiences, so be aware that you need to allow for extra payments to maximise this tour. We really did enjoy the tour, very spectacular stops and a well planned itinerary!
An educational trip 7 , VIC, Australia, Jun 2018
A great insight to the history of seven beautiful countries. City orientations provided us with lots of historical info and we walked through many palaces, castles, churches which are unique to every city. Lake Bled was one of the highlights and optionals covered many other areas that were not included on the itinerary. Hotels were of good standard read more but a couple had very small rooms. Included meals were average to good.

Tour Director was informative and helpful but we sincerely felt that he could have been more organised. The Coach Driver topped it all with his expertise on the road. The distance did not count with his skillful driving and the journey through out was worry free. We had pleasant company with all our fellow travellers and a memorable trip. This our second tour booked through Global Journeys and it has been hassle free.
