Fast paced holiday to see the best sights of Europe 2Mediterranean HighlightsHelen, New Zealand, Sep 2017
Fantastic tour and loads of fun, suited to those of reasonably good fitness. It was quite busy but we got to see as much as we possibly could and fitted in a few quiet afternoons of shopping too. I did all of the optional extra's as I didn't want to miss a thing and I was pleased that I did. The accommodation was good except maybe two nights that let read more it down, but you don't spend much time in your room anyway. Personally I felt that some of the tour was a bit too busy for some of the elderly guests and it was occasionally frustrating waiting on them, but that is part of the deal and they were such lovely people that you couldn't get angry about it.
Great trip through Spain, Morocco and Portugal 8Spain, Morocco and PortugalPhilip & Linda, WA, Australia, Sep 2017
This was our 4th tour with Trafalgar, and as with the previous tours the organisation and itinerary were excellent. Our tour guide Miguel was excellent with a wealth of knowledge and insight into countries we visited, in particularly Spain and Portugal.
The pace of the tour was full on but we knew what to expect so no problem there. There were plenty read more of optional excursions and probably too many for a 16 day tour. With the past tours we undertook all the optionals however this time round due to the pace of the tour we opted out of a couple to take a break which turned out to be a good thing. In Morocco we took on a Govt endorsed tour guide for the whole time in Morocco and picked up local tour guides in the various cities. Question why we had local guides as the Govt guide was well equip to handle the these jobs however this is how things work in Morocco - apparently. Would have liked to spend an extra day or 2 in Portugal as we only had 2 nights in Lisbon.
Overall at great tour and would highly recommend. Michelle and Madeline at Global Journeys were excellent in providing prompt assistance, feedback and organisation.
A brilliant East Coast USA and Canada adventure that did not disappoint ... 18East Coast USA and CanadaStu, NSW, Australia, Sep 2017
I’d never been to the East Coast of America/Canada before and this tour provided a brilliant introduction into the area. The itinerary was comprehensive yet varied with new experiences each day and plenty of scheduled rest stops along the way to ensure the daily journey with 45 other fellow travellers was not an arduous one.
Trafalgar TD (Dave S.) read more and our driver (Jose) worked as a well oiled team and were organised, always on time and a great source of knowledge regarding many aspects of each region visited. The addition of local guides (with audio headset walking tours) in various towns added to the experience where tips on where to eat/buy was always welcome. Seat rotation on the coach and a daily schedule “what’s coming up” sheet, kept us informed of departure, arrival and meal points not to mention the all important “bags out” time for the next morning.
Washington D.C was a highlight for me with the monuments/museums as well as the natural beauty of Niagara Falls and the contrasting quaint French influence evident in Quebec City and Montreal. The city of New York lived up to its fast and furious reputation with an orientation tour on the coach as we were heading out of town to the next hotel. Hence I would recommend perhaps getting to NY at least 3 to 5 days before the tour start date, to visit those iconic tourist spots we often only see on TV.
The hotels were well located and within walking distance of most attractions with comfortable rooms, free WiFi and all the mod-cons. I did all the optional tours which included some lovely dinners and a brilliant night tour of Washington which should not be missed. The optional helicopter ride over Niagara Falls looked a tad exorbitant at first, but the amazing flight and sensational photos taken from the air made up for an unforgettable experience.
Can’t speak highly enough of Juliet Scott from Global Journeys who organised all my pre-travel bookings, had plenty of helpful suggestions and was always accommodating towards any changes that came up on my time-line, which was much appreciated !
All in all a great travel journey with a friendly group of people sharing a common goal of soaking up the culture in a new-found part of the world. At least half the group had been on a Trafalgar Tour before (up to 8 times) being testament on how brilliantly this type of travel concept works as I have pleasantly discovered and hope to again in the not too distant future?
The whole trip went without a hitch from our arrival in Vancouver, then on a fabulous 7 night Inside Passage cruise on the "Niew Amsterdam" visiting Juneau, Skagway, John Hopkins Inlet, Ketchikan & back to Vancouver. Then we boarded our coach & then onto a ferry to Vancouver Island visiting Butchart Gardens (absolutely beautiful) then a ferry back to read more the mainland and on to Kamloops, and then to Jasper. As it had been snowing during the day, on our arrival in Jasper, it was like a Christmas fairyland. (The snow was unprecedented but was very welcome).
Next day a raft ride on the Athabasca River, then to the Athabasca Glacier, then onto Banff National Park, visiting the famous Fairmont Hotel, then to Canmore for an awesome helicopter ride over the mountains. We then returned to Jasper overnight and then over the next 2 days, we rode the Rocky Mountaineer Railway (GoldLeaf Class which was terrific) back to Vancouver. My wife and I could not fault the whole trip from start to finish. Would thoroughly recommend the whole tour to everyone and Global Journeys (Yvonne Brooks) was excellent to deal with.
Great holiday around Italy 2Italy BellissimoAnna, NSW, Australia, Sep 2017
I totally recommend this trip, it's just the right amount of time to tour around the beautiful sights of Italy. My highlights of the trip were Capri, Anicapri, Assisi, Burano, Siena and my absolute favourite was Rome. Our tour guide Muris Kemura was excellent, and our coach driver, Vincenzo was fantastic. I met some wonderful people on this trip, that read more I will continue to keep in contact with. We had a fantastic together. The optional experiences and excursions were terrific, as were our group dinners. Hotel accommodation rating majority were 4 star, with excellent selection for breakfast. Worst hotel was Hotel Minerva Palace in Montecantini Terme 2 Star rating. Thanks for a wonderful experience!
Good overview of both countries with excellent country side views on the way. Please be ready to be on the move from one hotel to another each day with early wake up calls, maybe be tiring for some.
We travelled in September - quite hot and humid but we had cooling showers and breezes. It was a wonderful introduction to Japan and there is so much left to see and experience again in the changing seasons. The magnificent scenery was complimented by the kindness and respectful behaviour of the Japanese people, the provision of thoughtful conveniences read more and the beautiful presentation of accommodation and food. We found the tour to have a mostly balanced itinerary with a few later starts in the morning and free time in the afternoons. There were some days that seemed busier than others and at times we suffered from 'temple fatigue', mainly due to the heat and crowds. The temples were always different however, with unique facets.
We had to change coaches and drivers a couple of times due to the train journeys and a requirement to use local drivers. The standard of drivers was excellent but we missed the attention that familiarity brings eg. a supportive arm or extra step to ease our descent from the bus. Our guide Masako was superb - always well prepared in history and interesting facts and delighted in providing local practical information to make our own discovery trips so enjoyable. We always had comfort stops at well provisioned roadhouses, where we could buy local snacks and sometimes fruit, which was quite expensive.
Our hotels were conveniently located to shops or a safe walking distance to other attractions. We particularly valued the traditional experiences in the Ryokans and Onsens, the journeys through the magnificent mountain areas (so many high tech tunnels, bridges and dams) and relished the Japanese breakfasts, which included local vegetables, omelettes, soup with rice or noodles and also small quantities of fruit.
Many thanks to Georgie at Global Journeys for her endless patience and prompt responses to our questions and concerns :). Using the internet at home was very convenient and thankfully proved to be secure too. A very successful and enlightening experience indeed!
Well organized tour run by very experienced operator resulting in a very enjoyable holiday for our family of four. Big thank you to Yvonne of Global Journeys for managing on our behalf the booking aspect of this tour to ensure we would have a memorable trip.
The Tour director made the tour interesting and fun. For a short tour, we've seen and done a lot. The highlight for us is the Hot air balloon flight in Napa Valley which we highly recommend. We've done a lot of tours with Trafalgar before and we have been happy with them so we will definitely use them again. The same goes for Global Journeys, we read more are happy with the service we received from Madeline Lewis. Thanks.
The trip in general was very good. All accommodation with the exception of Lucerne, where we were obviously treated as second class guests, was very good. St Moritz and Zermatt very extremely accommodating. Zermatt was a lovely place with it's "no cars" and great shops and food and drink outlets. I thought 43 on the tour was too many. We had some problems read more with train bookings being spread around different carriages which caused some angst with people having to move during the trip. Most of the travel was on normal commuter trains which although the standard of trains in Switzerland in very good was a bit of a hassle at times.
Got on well with all of the fellow travellers we had a chance to get to know and will keep in touch with some. There were few inclusions on this tour. Most of the Optional Excursions were a must or the tour wouldn't fulfill it's purpose. They were mostly reasonable value with the exception of the lake cruise and dinner in Geneva which was a rip off. It was the excursion we were most looking forward to but was very disappointing primarily because it was at night but the substandard meal a service would have spoiled even a day trip. This type of trip is quite dependent on the weather. We were lucky for the most part particularly the time on the Glacier Express and in Zermatt when viewing the Matterhorn. We were not so lucky when we visited Interlaken. The Tour Director was very personable, knowledgeable and competent.
Wonderful trip through three countries 6Spain, Morocco and PortugalBrian & Maureen, NSW, Australia, Aug 2017
A great trip through three countries. A little hectic due to the distance travelled in sixteen days. A well organised trip by Trafalgar, good coach, great Portugese driver who took the coach into some very narrow places and streets and a tour director Javier GalvezJ who had been doing the job for 21 years and was worth every accolade you could give read more him and more, he was the best.
Most hotels were of very high standard with only a couple were a little inferior. We had a very friendly group of 48 made up with 40% Australians. The itinerary was very full with many and varied places to see with local guides. The only negative comment I would make is that it would have been nice to have a list of the optional extras and costs much earlier than was advised. Global Journeys through our consultant Yvonne Brookes kept us well informed continually from the time we booked our tour until the time we departed. Thank you for your excellent service.
Enjoyable and informative trip with beautiful cities visited at a good pace. 2Imperial EuropeGeorge & Soula, NSW, Australia, Aug 2017
Ideal length trip visiting Eastern Europe and its beautiful Imperial Cities. All hotels and sightseeing were excellent and our Tour Director, Kurt, was the best we have experienced.
Country meets city the best of both worlds 10Brandie, ACT, Australia, Aug 2017
This is a fantastic tour taking in the key sights throughout California. Highlights include the optional extra of flying over Grand Canyon, Old town San Diego, Yosemite National Park, San Francisco, and Vagas. We stayed in 4.5 star hotels and dined in some fabulous restaurants. The bus was mostly comfortable with stops every 1.5 to 2 hours in small read more city towns or rest stops. The tour guide was knowledgeable and happy to accommodate special requests where needed.
Professionally run tour. Great bunch of people. Tour leader and driver were great. I must say it was as i expected with Trafalgar.
Great way to see Central Europe 4Bohemian HighlightsColleen & David, NSW, Australia, Aug 2017
The weather in August was fantastic but unfortunately it was school holidays and there were a lot of tourists everywhere we went. Most of our excursions were early so as to avoid the crowds which is great if you like getting up early. This trip involved a lot of long days traveling which I know is probably unavoidable but can be quite exhausting as read more well. Tour group and director were great and we certainly did see a lot and have same great experiences. Optional excursions were excellent and worth the money.
We had excellent accommodation. Our Travel Director Giovanna was a lovely knowledgeable young lady and nothing was too much of an effort for her. Our drive Jose was amazing. He was a very competent driver and the way he handled some of those winding roads was fantastic both my husband and I felt very safe. The only thing i was disappointed with was read more the optional excursion we chose which was the Flamenco dinner & show.
Trip of a Lifetime! 16Grand EuropeanJanelle , NSW, Australia, Aug 2017
What a fantastic trip , so well organised by Trafalgar and a big thanks to Georgie Walpole for organising it. Everything worked like clockwork with Trafalgar.
he accommodation was very good, meals were good, breakfast every morning was amazing! Wifi at every place we stayed at as well, so at the end of the day we could all stay in touch with our read more family and upload all our photos to Facebook etc
I made some fantastic friends on this trip who I hope to catch up with very soon. Our tour guide Peter Ansell was amazing and had our best interest at heart all the time, especially security and making us check every morning before we left to check our bags for wallets, cameras and most of all our passports. Our coach was beautiful, it was only 4 months old and also had Wifi. Our driver Marco, who was italian (& spoke very little English) was an amazing driver and a real gentlemen.
I personally found that this trip was long enough, as it is extremely fast paced, not for the person who wants to sleep in every morning, but rather for those who wants to lot's to see and do. I am very glad I did not choose a shorter tour though, as I would have missed so much, and I probably won't get to do it again. I added 3 days in London at the start of my trip and 2 days at the end to take in the London sights, which was all organised for me by Georgie. Some people flew in the day before and were suffering jet lag at the beginning of the trip, which was a really bad start to their holiday.
Over all this trip was amazing , and now I look back at my photos , I can almost feel myself standing up in the Eiffel Tower, or in the alps in Switzerland, or sipping champagne at Sorrento as the sun goes down. Thank you Trafalgar!
Edinburgh Military Tattoo show is the highlight of trip. Ticket price was £43 (very cheap) and got Row 5 L. I suggested to upgrade for a better closer rows and seats with higher price. Shopping / Taxi fare/ restaurant are good and affordable, much cheaper than Oz. Weather is good and cool but warm and stuffy in hotel rooms and got no air conditioning read more in Ireland hotels. The worst experience was in Dunollie Hotel in Scotland. The carpet seemed to be recently disinfected or chemically treated. The smell was terrible. Staff did not help to change another room stating no more vacancy. I was suffocated for the first couple of hours. Culloden Estate was fantastic. Drivers are good. Walking tours are pricey. Fish & chips are surprisingly so average. Being from Oz, scenery - sheep, cattle, grass, mountains are not much different ( after touring experience in at least 38 countries) but always good to see and experience. Our travel agent Georgie was excellent, very prompt and helpful.
Had a great time. Just a few negatives....
1. The payment for the Optional Experiences was confirmed prior to travel via 3 sources to be deducted in Pounds Sterling. We loaded up funds on out Travel Card accordingly. However the Tour Director (Luke) was only given an Eftpos machine to process Euros. This would have meant a cost for us in the exchange read more rate. We therefore had to extract cash in Pounds to make the payment.
2. Some of the Hotels didn't supply face cloths for showering....very inconvenient.
3. The bed coverings supplied (usually a doona) were often inappropriate (too much) for the warmth of the hotel rooms. Many of us had to resort to open windows (if at all possible) or requesting fans to obtain a suitable level of comfort.
The 14 day tour starts in Dublin and we opted to get there a couple of days earlier as there were other things we wished to see and do that were not included in the tour. I would recommend the Guinness Storehouse tour and the Temple bar district. Just be aware that some of the sites are only 'viewed' from the outside and may not actually 'visited'. read more eg St Patrick's cathedral. The people and sites around Ireland were great. The weather is not always kind and our tour around the Ring of Kerry was marred by heavy cloud and rain. Oh well, you can't control he weather.
The Giants Causeway was a highlight and then onto Northern Ireland. Scotland was terrific, Isle of Skye, Loch Lomond, Loch Ness and St Andrews are beautiful. We visited Eilean Donan castle and whilst a tour inside is not included you can buy a ticket and race through during the 30 minute stop-over. Edinburgh is a beautiful city and we were lucky enough to have the Edinburgh Tattoo included. The Tour Director, Luke, was terrific and was very attentive to everyone's needs. Overall I would recommend the tour but like most trips of this type there are visits to commercial venues that may not be of much interest and many of the more interesting or enjoyable activities are 'optional'. that said, the overall cost is pretty competitive and good value.
