Itinerary

Zürich is your springboard to a spectacular journey through Switzerland. Join a MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® Experience for a social-impact guided walking tour. This evening, attend a dinner to launch your Swiss experience. (D) Stay: Hyatt Place Zurich Airport The Circle

We leave the bright lights of Zürich behind and stop in Bern with its Old Town, admiring its medieval streets, ornate fountains and arcaded walkways. Journeying to Lake Geneva, we arrive in the resort town of Montreux, set against the pristine backdrop of snow-covered peaks and vineyards. After lunch, consider joining an Optional Experience to cruise Lake Geneva, including a visit to the Charlie Chaplin museum in his former estate, Manoir de Ban. (B) Stay: Mona Montreux

This morning, we visit Chillon Castle, immortalised by Lord Byron's 'Prisoner of Chillon'. For nearly four centuries, this water fortress was the residence of the Counts of Savoy and an important stop for traders. Our next stop is the Lavaux region, a charming wine village above Lake Geneva, where we'll Connect With Locals over lunch at our Be My Guest experience. Continue your journey to the resort town of Zermatt, set against the backdrop of the snow-capped Matterhorn. (B/L) Stay: Mirabeau

Spend a full free day soaking up Zermatt's crisp mountain air and panoramic vistas. Relax in beautiful surroundings or consider an Optional Experience to the Klein Matterhorn for the most spectacular mountain views. (B)

Leave the alpine charm of Zermatt and journey to the shores of Lake Maggiore. Take a lunch break by the water, soaking up the Italian elegance of this spot. You might choose to join an Optional Experience by private launch to Isola Bella, where a Local Specialist will guide you through the grand Baroque palace and its tiered gardens, once a playground for aristocrats. Continue on to Locarno in Switzerland's Italian-speaking region, known for its lakefront promenade. (B) Stay: Hampton by Hilton Locarno

Leave Locarno behind and travel deep into the Swiss Alps, arriving in St. Moritz with time to explore. You might stroll along the lakefront, browse the shops in the town centre or simply take in the mountain views from a local cafe. For something different, there's the Optional Experience to Roseg Valley by horse and carriage.

Later, board the Rhaetian Railways and travel the UNESCO-listed route past the glaciers of Piz Bernina towards Poschiavo. Return to St. Moritz where a relaxed group dinner rounds off the day. (B/D) Stay: Reine Victoria

Journeying through lush green landscapes, past Lake Zürich, we arrive in lakeside Lucerne. Pay tribute to the brave Swiss Guards, who lost their lives defending King Louis XVI at the Lion Monument, and admire the iconic wooden Chapel Bridge before strolling past the city's colourful facades. Consider joining a cruise on the tranquil lake waters and then ride the world's first double deck 'CabriO' cable car to the top of Mount Stanserhorn. (B) Stay: Grand Europe Lucerne

We travel to Interlaken at the heart of Switzerland, which lies in the shadow of the Jungfrau Mountain. Stopping in the village of Brienz en route, we'll Dive Into Culture and gain insights into the centuries-old tradition of wood carving for which this village is so famous. Spend some time on your own and enjoy superb views of the peaks of the Bernese Oberland. This evening, we enjoy dinner with our fellow travellers and Travel Director toasting the highlights of Switzerland we've enjoyed along the way. (B/D)

As our journey through the Best of Switzerland comes to an end, we bid our newfound friends a fond farewell. (B)

Mostly Good 0 , NSW, Australia, May 2025
We mostly enjoyed our Trafalgar Best of Switzerland tour. We had a great guide, Rob, and saw everything we set out to see. Unfortunately our hotel in Zermat was a big let down. The original itinerary had us staying “in town” at Mirabeau Hotel… which would have been great location wise. Instead we found ourselves at the Hotel Hemizeus. Hotel Hemizeus read more is a long way out from the main shopping area… so no restaurants. Also no footpath, and taxis are very expensive in Zermat.
No satisfaction with this tour 6 , NSW, Australia, Aug 2019
This tour was a 3 star tour. Something in between the Trafalgar & Costsaver tour - not value for what we paid. The tour program was good. Hotels weren't good for the tour's value - it seems that some travellers were in favour to be accommodated in bigger rooms with better views. I would like to know who decides who stays in which room in particular read more in the hotel in St Moritz. Meals were OK but not anything special. Tour Guide was average- not committed enough. Tour driver was experienced and friendly. Number of Optional Tours were too many, some could be included in the tour package.
Slower pace tour. Beautiful scenery of the alps. 4 , WA, Australia, Jul 2016
One again Hannah was a great help in booking this tour back to back with the 15 Day Bohemian tour. Best of Switzerland was at a much slower pace, with views of the magnificent alps and lakes. Our tour director Woolfgan, a pleasant and happy person, although being bilingual, the different ascents and dialects of tour guests caused him minor problems. read more Unfortunately his time management skills weren't good, and we relied on each other to work out our daily schedule. He was not always available when questions needed to be addressed. Needless to say the coach drivers did an excellent job as usual. Negatives were arriving in the Hilton Hotel Evian at the end of the day, having to wait an hour in the coach, as our rooms weren't ready. This happened again when we arrived in Zermatt, personally my husband and I waited for 1 1/2 hours for our room to be ready! Highlights of this tour were taking a cable car to 3779m to Klein Matterhorn - then taking oldest mountain railway and Cabrio cable car to reach 1900m on Mt Stanserhorn, and the train from Triano to St Mortiz.
Fantastic Tour of Switzerland 4 , NSW, Australia, Apr 2016
Wonderful tour arranged by Global Journeys for our trip with Trafalgar. Switzerland is a beautiful country with friendly people where you feel safe in very clean surrounds. The tour is diverse and overall there is nothing we would change from what was arranged. We had 3 days in Zurich prior to the tour which was lovely, easy to get about on public transport read more and the old part of the city provided plenty of highlights for the 3 days. Would use Global Journeys for all future organised travel arrangements.
The tour was good, unhappy with bedding arrangements 6 , ACT, Australia, Jun 2015
The tour was good. As I was traveling with a friend we requested twin beds but in many hotels we got either double or queen beds. Therefore we were not happy with the bedding arrangements. Also Trafalgar did not have any of our personal details such as passport info, emergency contacts etc. Even though we have given them to Global Journeys. (Ed. Tut read more tut, we will let them know, we don't want to ask you for them and then them not use them!)
After 7 days of moves it was a bit too much of a good thing 4 , Australia, Sep 2012
We thought we would try a 'lively' tour just to see how it went. After 7 days of moves it was a bit too much of a good thing. However, the things we saw and did were great. Saddest case was the 'failed' St Bernard rescue dog who had been demoted to posing for photos and was even keener to get back to the central heating than we were - lovely dog anyway. read more (Ed. This coach tour has had a day added in 2013 to ensure a more lesiurely experience.)
