There is much to recommend about this particular tour of the Scottish Highlands. In part, that reflected the guide (Kate) and the driver (Chris), but that may have been coloured by the 'wee dram' of whisky at the end of each day. There were several highlights of the tour, but three remain outstanding: the stone age village on the Orkneys, Doune Castle read more for Monty Python and Outlander fans and the landscape.
Our guide, Kate, filled us in on the history of the various places we visited, which added to the tour and suggested a bloody past for the Highlands. The quality of the accommodation varied. Thurso, for example, was the more basic of the various hotels we visited. However, we were warned about this by Kate and the accommodation was never substandard. The group was a large, and mixed, and that was good because it blunted any potential conflicts.
As for Global Journeys, the company did a magnificent job. I would certainly book with them again (in fact have already done so). Jemma Rosen deserves a special mention here. She was prompt when it came to answering any questions I had and was more than happy to discuss options available when it came to transport in Britain. The tour would not have worked as well as it did without her.
An amazing holiday!! 6Amazing IrelandKen & Martie, WA, Australia, Jun 2018
The trip was well organised and backed up with excellent drivers and knowledgeable resident tour guide. The hotels were comfortable and staff very helpful. (We used to get an extra jug of milk each night for extra cups of coffee/tea in the rooms.) Some of the hotels were a bit out of the way, but this did not present a problem. The major problem with read more travelling in Ireland is that there are few public conveniences, even in the major shopping areas. At one of our stops we had to use one in a gift shop, where the coaches stop regularly, there was only one toilet (50cents) and insufficient time for most of the passengers to use it!!!
We travelled 14 days mid June and were hardly affected by the weather, only at the Cliffs of Moher where it was misty. We had some rain, but each time we stopped, so did it, and we were able to enjoy the sights. We had a lovely group of people on our coach, American, Canadian, New Zealand and us Australians (5 of us). There were many highlights, but the Titanic experience was amazing and the final night dinner and cabaret topped the whole holiday off - an excellent optional extra. Would we travel with Trafalgar again, definitely. Thank you to Jemma from Global Journeys for her patience with our booking. We always use Global Journeys when planning a trip.
This tour was indeed spectacular! Canada certainly has fantastic places to visit. This tour was well organised, the accommodation was good and our Tour Director was great. We visited so many beautiful places, but we never felt rushed, or that we missed anything. We often had options to be as active or sedate as we wanted and the travel times were kept read more as comfortable as possible. We highly recommend this tour and Trafalgar. We plan to do more of their tours.
On the whole it was a great trip. I think more own time was needed to relax and unwind. Only one opportunity to do laundry. Days were long, would have been nicer to arrive at hotel in afternoon. Arrival times were between 4.30- 7.00pm. A good mix of people, all got along easily.
This tour needed to be at least an extra day for the total distance travelled. It was too fast paced and too many hours on the coach each day with not enough time to explore each location especially the one night stops. Loved all the places we visited and the history in each town and city. Disappointments were the Blarney Stone, there is not one it read more wore off years ago - a rip off. The Edinburgh Scottish Dinner it was terrible 10 years ago and is worse now, Trafalgar should not include these. Our tour guide Glen was very good.
Following our journey in Europe we joined Trafalgar for a remarkable trip across Britain and Ireland catching up with some of my family and other friends as the trip progressed from Stonehenge up to Scotland across to Ireland and back to England.
We had the best team of people ever, fun and we all got on well. We felt we all needed to see more of Madrid Plaza Mayor, tasting tapas or a coffee, not stopping in front of the bull ring and back to the hotel as Richard our tour guide sold us on our first optional excursion (by the way we were all going to do the option anyway). We were told by Richard read more our tour guide that this was the best way to do it, luckily we had 4 days prior to our tour starting to see Madrid the capital, no one else did.
Our hotel in Granada could have been more central or Richard and our grumpy bus driver could have given us a small tour of the city on arrival just to get our bearings (the last Trafalgar tour we did our tour guide and bus driver did this) then people can go for a walk after dinner. When we came down to Marbella we had a walk through the old town which we got to know very well as our tour guide lived there and we had a nice optional dinner. We asked if there was a choice of visiting Mijas, the white washed village in the mountains, and he took us there for lunch which was fantastic, but not sure if he would have if we hadn’t said anything.
In Morocco all tour dinners, first and last hotels were fantastic. The Medina in Fes was a disaster as there were 4 tour guides and the group was split - we only got one guide and the other crowd got 3. Why was this? It was the biggest push sale ever on carpets and leather goods and our guide got annoyed as no one wanted to buy anything so he made us wait in an alley for 45 minutes then rushed through the Medina out where we had to wait another 45 minutes for the others. We were all disappointed as we were all excited to buy stuff and we got nothing, as soon as I saw Richard we told him and it was brushed under the carpet. Our bus driver was a joke and as soon as it came to gratuity Richard put an envelope on our seat to give and went on and on about it, it became a bit of a joke .
All Spain then Portugal was fantastic we ended our trip in Lisbon by choice to stay an extra 3 days and saw a lot more. The food and hotels here were fantastic. The best hotels on this trip were Madrid and Seville, beautiful. Will do another trip with Trafalgar and hope we get professional guide.
A great insight to the history of seven beautiful countries. City orientations provided us with lots of historical info and we walked through many palaces, castles, churches which are unique to every city. Lake Bled was one of the highlights and optionals covered many other areas that were not included on the itinerary. Hotels were of good standard read more but a couple had very small rooms. Included meals were average to good.
Tour Director was informative and helpful but we sincerely felt that he could have been more organised. The Coach Driver topped it all with his expertise on the road. The distance did not count with his skillful driving and the journey through out was worry free. We had pleasant company with all our fellow travellers and a memorable trip. This our second tour booked through Global Journeys and it has been hassle free.
Best of Italy 6Best of ItalyDavid & Trish , VIC, Australia, May 2018
This bus tour certainly showed us the Best of Italy. We thought the locations were great, the accommodation was generally very good and situated in good proximity so the best advantage could be taken of free time. Most of the optional extras were handled well and seemed to be good value. Loved the surprise on the gondolas of having music and a fabulous read more singer. Would skip the optional tour of St Mark's Basilica and the secrets of Venice walk around - not enough time in the cathedral. Our highlights were St Peter's In Rome, the Isle of Capri and Lake Maggiore and Lake Como. Global Journeys made the booking process easy.
Scotland in a week! 7Best of ScotlandQuinton & Lisa, NSW, Australia, May 2018
Even though our tour bus was pretty full, we thoroughly enjoyed this tour. 2 nights per hotel meant we weren't packing every day. Our tour guide Jon was very organised, professional and helpful all the time. The quality of the hotels was great and the touring was not too long.
European Interlude 2European WhirlMaggie, TAS, Australia, May 2018
The trip was excellent. We had a terrific guide, Bernie McCarthy. The hotels were all top quality. The included tours and dinners were really good, as were most of the extra tours. We certainly saw as much as possible in a short time. I would thoroughly recommend this tour to anyone. Thanks to Juliet from Global Journeys for your help with the arrangements. read more Next time I would probably book flights through Trafalgar as well. I didn't realise how flexible they were until I talked to some of the other travellers.
Had a fabulous trip with Trafalgar. The tour director was so full of knowledge about every place we went to, plus history of the Country, Kings, Queens, cathedrals castles etc. June was a good time to see UK, Ireland and Scotland - not too hot or cold but still needed a jacket at certain places. Weather was perfect. NO rain, but we might have just read more been lucky. Hotels were pretty good. Fabulous bunch of travellers everyone got on well and no one was ever late for coach departure times. Driver also did a fabulous job, not easy to drive around some of the smaller streets of the countries we visited. Would recommend this tour for any one.
We booked this trip as we wanted to explore Europe further than the Western Countries. We were not disappointed, there was so much variety from the beautiful scenery of Slovenia to the beautiful architecture of Prague and Vienna, to the so many different places we visited in Berlin - Gleneiki Bridge, Berlin Wall, dinner in the Lakes District to mention read more a few.
We liked how the culture of the people in these countries has been preserved. We enjoyed many traditional meals. Trafalgar did a great job of showing these countries to us. Kate our travel director was fantastic. Laslow our driver was excellent. Trouble-free booking with Yvonne from Global Journeys.
Wonderful Experience 4Neil & Robyn, QLD, Australia, May 2018
We had an absolutely wonderful experience on this tour. It was well organised, the accommodation was good and our Tour Director was fantastic. Being a "Discoverer" tour the pace is quicker than some tours, but not so much that we felt rushed, or that we missed anything, and we did see and experience so many great places. We often had options to be as read more active or sedate as we wanted and the travel times were kept as comfortable as possible. We highly recommend this tour and Trafalgar. We plan to do more of their tours.
The Trafalgar Travel Director and local specialists were the ultimate professionals. The tours of Lima, Sacred Valley, Machu Picchu, Cusco and Lake Titicaca were everything I had hoped for. Everything worked like clockwork.
An economical way of touring 6Northern SpainLynette & Laurence, NSW, Australia, May 2018
We booked Northern Spain tour on Trafalgar because it fitted in with our travel plans. The tour was great, with an excellent guide, but the accommodation didn't really suit us as we personally prefer to pay a bit extra and get a better hotel in better locations. For the price though, is was good and it enabled us to see a fair bit of northern Spain, read more which probably would have been too much to cover on our own.
We did a lot of walking which we liked, but I think if you had mobility issues this could be a problem. Northern Spain is very different to the rest of Spain. It is very green and mountainous, has nice beaches, as well as the best food and wine in the country.
One of the optional tours was incorrectly worded. We visited the Prehistoric Altamira Caves to see the cave paintings, but this tour is actually a museum with a fabricated cave and the drawings are all reproduced. The real caves are at a different location nearby, but we, and everyone else on the tour, booked this tour thinking that we were seeing caves not a museum.
The pace of this tour was just right with plenty of free time to explore each location. Our tour guide Krista was superb, she was very knowledgeable and added greatly to the tour. Wonderful sites and history.
Thanks, Global Journeys and Trafalgar what a wonderful holiday with my wife Bev and our sister-in-law Gwen. Starting in Madrid and ending in Rome it was marvelous trip and met some wonderful people from all over the world.
The start of our tour in Amsterdam was amazing, especially the welcoming dinner on the night canal cruise. We were really surprised to see the old town centres in Belgium, that were saved from damage during WWII. The architecture of the old majestic buildings and large churches and cathedrals with very tall steeples were astonishing.
In each town read more we were given lengthy history by the local guides. The old town of Bruges especially took our breath away. This little old town was forgotten, left neglected, until history of old townships became appreciated by tourists. This is one town that should never be left out of your itinerary when visiting Belgium.
We enjoyed good company of people joining this tour from other parts of the world. The hotels were always in a good position and we will be taking another Trafalgar tour next year, booking it through Global Journeys again.
Tour director was terrific - made a good trip even better. We visited a range of historic, cultural and scenic locations. No problems with the accommodation (except for the New Otani Hotel which refused to let anyone into their room until 2pm even though we arrived on a wet and windy day at 6.30am) or the food. Bus drivers were competent and safety read more conscious. Other than the optional dinner, the optional excursions did not appeal to us. Our tour group included people from USA, Canada, India and Australia and we would recommend this tour to anyone.
