Itinerary

Spend the day exploring the pomp and pageantry of a city that effortlessly combines old and new. Stay: Park Plaza Riverbank

Join a Local Specialist this morning for a tour of the iconic and unexpected highlights of London, including Big Ben, the imposing Houses of Parliament and Westminster Abbey. Spend a leisurely afternoon shopping on Carnaby Street, consider visiting one of London's museums or wander along the Thames watching ambitious Londoners pound the pavements. (B)

Meet your Travel Director before saying cheerio to London and hello sparkling White Cliffs of Dover, England's last hurrah before you cross the English Channel by ferry bound for Calais. You'll pass the World War I battlefields of the Somme before arriving in Paris where you will enjoy dinner.

This evening the City of Light provides an enchanting backdrop for an orientation drive that will showcase several of the sights which await you tomorrow. (B/D) Stay: Novotel Center Bercy

Embark on a scenic sojourn, with your Local Specialist, along the grand Champs-Élysées to see the Arc de Triomphe, honoring those who fought for France. See Notre Dame Cathedral and enjoy a stroll through the Latin Quarter.

This afternoon, you'll have some leisure time to explore the treasures of Paris. Perhaps enjoy breathtaking views from the highest rooftop terrace in Paris or relax at a cozy French cafe and enjoy a glass of wine while watching the world go by. (B)

Wind your way through the sprawling vineyards of Auxerrois and Burgundy, journeying south past the 15th-century fortress of Châteauneuf and rolling green farmlands into Switzerland bound for Lucerne. Cross the famous wooden Chapel Bridge with its 17th-century paintings and view the mortally wounded lion hewn from rock, paying tribute to the hundreds of brave Swiss Guards who died defending Louis XVI. (B/D) Stay: Grand Europe Lucerne

The contrast of scenery today is nothing short of remarkable. Traversing the Alps, you'll travel through the St. Gotthard tunnel and the border into Italy. Catch a glimpse of northern Italy's beautiful lakes, whose scenic retreats have attracted the aristocracy for centuries, before arriving this afternoon in Venice. (B) Stay: Novotel Venezia Mestre Castellana

Take to the water and board a private motor launch to the gateway of Venice, St. Mark's Square. View the Bridge of Sighs and ornate Doge's Palace, then embark on a MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® Experience where you'll witness the centuries-old craft of glassblowing at one of the oldest workshops in Venice. Watch how talented artisans shape the molten glass into the delicate works of art you've come to admire from afar and perhaps be inspired to buy your own souvenir to remind you of this special experience.

Later, there's time to explore the hidden calli and campi of Venice to fit in some shopping or soak up the sights and sounds of the Queen of the Adriatic before crossing the Apennine Mountains bound for Florence, the 'Cradle of the Renaissance'. (B) Stay: Radisson Blu

The magnificent Renaissance dome of Santa Maria del Fiore Cathedral and the Baptistery stand imposingly in the center of Florence and are among the sights you will view during our guided walking tour with a Local Specialist. Delve into the city's rich cultural, artistic and architectural heritage, then learn about the quality and workmanship of one of this city's historic industries at a demonstration of Florentine leathercraft. Marvel at the impressive palazzi and art in the Piazza della Signoria, the political hub of the city. Rome is your final stop today. (B) Stay: Precise House Mantegna

Consider an Optional Experience to see the magnificent frescoes of the Sistine Chapel before a sightseeing tour that takes you past ancient sites to view the Colosseum and see the Roman Forum.

This evening, connect with locals during a Be My Guest experience at the unique Isola Tiberina, and celebrate the Italian zest for life, food and good company. (B/D)

Our adventure together has come to an end. Say a fond farewell to Rome and your travel companions at the end of your journey. (B)

European Traveller 9 days with Trafalgar   2 , NSW, Australia, Oct 2018
This was our first holiday. It gave us a good introduction to Europe and places where we may go to again. It was especially good to miss the queue. It was great to chat to others on the tour. Howard the tour director was excellent.
Trip quite tiring 1 , NSW, Australia, Jun 2015
I found this trip quite tiring as many early starts due to crowds. I think that the travel director oversold the optional extras and they were very expensive (> $800 AUD) in proportion to the base cost. The trip was marred by the crowds, high temperatures and the high cost of everything particularly in Paris and Rome and Venice. I would never go read more in high season again. I'm not sure what Trafalgar could do to solve these problems?
A great trip 1 , Australia, May 2014
This trip is designed to give one a taste of what is out there. Go, go, go. Tour director, Jelle, was excellent and coach driver, Carlo was good hearted, very obliging and very friendly. Accommodation was good but Europeans love hard beds, so be prepared for that. The Louvre in Paris was a disappointment as it has been very modernised, but at least read more one can say they have been there. Eiffel tower was great, awesome views of Paris, even from level 2. Some of the local guides were non-stop talkers and got a bit annoying after a while. Overall, a great trip.
Would definitely choose to book again through Global Journeys 2 , Australia, Apr 2013
My tour consultant Hannah was extremely helpful and always provided very timely responses to my queries. Hannah was extremely helpful in suggesting a solution when I had advised I had booked my tour but on the incorrect flights/itinerary (very silly of me!). My 8 day tour from London to Rome was amazing. Our tour guide was amazing, his knowledge, professionalism read more and genuine care for the groups experiences was second to none. He spoke 5 languages which was a bonus and it definitely was an asset in resolving any issues experienced by the group. The Tour guide was able to manage 40 of us with ease....no-one got lost, and if they were late, he would bend over backwards to make sure they weren't lost. On our final day, we received the most amazing and thoughtful gift from our Tour guide, not chocolates, or a travel voucher etc....but an amazing limited edition souvenir from the Vatican. During the tour we had other local guides join us, they were equally as enthusiastic about there job and oozed a pure passion for their home city. Would definitely choose to book a tour again through Global Journeys. Thank you!
Hit all the highlights to give you a taste for a bit more 1 , Australia, Aug 2012
It was very good. Hit all the highlights to give you a taste for a bit more. It needs 1 more day to allow for some time in Lucerne and commute to Venice. In general the accommodation was good, a bit poor in Florence where I could barely get into the shower. The bathroom was so small.
