Overview

Read 14 reviews and enjoy exclusive savings on Globus 8 Day Iceland Adventure. Icelandic folklore maintains there are clans of elves and trolls living in the country’s extraordinary hills, rocky outcrops, and lava fields. Will you meet these “Huldufólk”, or “Hidden People” said to dislike churches, daylight, and electricity? Hard to say. But here’s what you will see on this breathtaking tour of Iceland—active volcanoes, roaring waterfalls, jagged glaciers, floating icebergs, black-sand beaches, and brilliant-blue geothermal springs.

Unique, local experiences await in the “Land of Fire read more and Ice,” including tasting piping hot bread baked by the heat from the hot springs, sipping Geysir schnapps served at freezing point, and standing in awe before the spectacular Lake Jökulsárlón, home to Europe’s largest glacier and the site of some of the most dramatic scenes from the James Bond movie Die Another Day. The gargantuan sights in the land of the elves will surely leave you stirred, not shaken.

Itinerary

Welcome to Reykjavik!

At 6 pm, meet your Tour Director and travel companions for a welcome dinner at your hotel. (D)

Incredible Iceland

Start the day with an orientation drive around the capital city of Reykjavik, then continue to Hellishiðarvirkjun to visit the geothermal heat and electric power station. Reach the hot springs of Geysir and taste local specialties, including freshly baked bread and a glass of Geysir Schnapps. Stop to take photos at Iceland's most famous falls, Gullfoss Waterfall, before arriving at Thingvellir. Here, a unique experience awaits with a walk through the Rift Valley's landscape formed by shifting tectonic plates and stand on two continents at the same time! Later, arrive in Borgarnes. (B/D) 196 mi / 315 km.

LOCAL FAVORITE - NATURAL WONDERS: Iceland is the only place in the world where separation between the North American and European geological rift (tectonic plates) are above sea level, and nowhere in the world are the edges of both plates as clearly visible than the Rift Valley in Thingvellir National Park.

Giant Love

Take in the splendid scenery as you drive north to Hauganes and embark on a whale-watching cruise. Embark on the opportunity to witness the breathtaking beauty of these majestic mammals in their natural habitat. Continue to the charming town of Akureyri, considered to be the “Capital of Northern Iceland.” (B) 224 mi / 360k m.

LOCAL FAVORITE - WILD & WONDERFUL: Take a whale-watching cruise from Hauganes for the chance to spot humpback and minke whales and dolphins surfacing on the glassy waters of Eyjafjordur bay. An epic experience!

Heavenly Sights

This morning, join an orientation walk in Akureyri, including the botanical gardens. Depart Akureyri for fantastic photo opportunities en route to Godafoss for a stop to see the “Waterfall of the Gods.” Enjoy a scenic drive to Lake Mývatn, formed by a volcanic eruption that left its imprint with various volcanic landforms. Stop to enjoy free time to admire the incredible panorama. Later, arrive at Dettifoss and take photos of the most powerful waterfall in Europe (road conditions permitting) before continuing to Egilsstadir. (B/D) 224 mi / 360 km.

TOUR HIGHLIGHT - PICTURE PERFECT: Take the photographs of a lifetime with a stop at North Iceland's historic and magnificent Goðafoss waterfall, stretching 90 feet across dramatic rock formations to deliver its spectacular cascades along the glacial-fed Skjálfandafljót River.

Warm Friends on an Icelandic Fjord

Depart Egilsstadir for a scenic drive to Höfn, a charming fishing town in the southeast which is thought to have been settled by Irish monks. Enjoy free time to explore the town. (B/D) 162 mi / 260 km.

TOUR HIGHLIGHT - CULTURE & TRADITION: Hear about the Lagarfljótwurm, a snake-like animal that is supposed to guard a pot of gold located by Lake Lögurinn and take in the natural beauty of this fjord town where sheep farming, fishing, and music festivals are all part of the culture.

Icy Beauty

This morning, stop at Lake Jökulsárlón and snap photos to capture the beauty of the glacier Vatnajökull, the largest in Europe. Admire the stunning scenery as you drive through Skaftafell national park en-route to the Vik area. (B/D) 174 mi / 280 km.

LOCAL FAVORITE - PICTURE PERFECT: Drive through the national park at Skaftafell and stop at the stunning Lake Jökulsárlón, Iceland's largest lake. Here, Icebergs break away from the vast Vatnajökull Glacier (the Water Glacier) and drift gracefully toward the Atlantic. Snap photos to capture the astonishing majesty of Iceland's largest ice cap.

Earthly Powers

This morning, enjoy a scenic drive that offers stunning views of the mighty Eyjafjallajökull volcano. Later, stop to take photos of the Seljalandsfoss waterfall before continuing to Reykjavik. This evening, join your travel companions for a farewell dinner at a local restaurant. (B/D) 118 mi / 190 km.

TOUR HIGHLIGHT - NATURAL WONDERS: Eyjafjallajökull is one of Iceland's few stratovolcanoes (with an ice cap covering the caldera). When the volcano erupted in 2010, the glacier topping also broke, and the plume of ash rose over five miles into the sky – interrupting European air travel for almost a month!

Safe travels until we meet again!

Your vacation ends with breakfast this morning. (B)

A must do! 0 , QLD, Australia, Sep 2025
We saw the Northern Lights as an unexpected out of season bonus. Visited an Iceland special - heated steam power plant.
Revelled in Thermal Pools. Enjoyed a Great Tour Director and Driver as we travelled around Iceland......
Great place to visit 0 , WA, Australia, Sep 2025
I loved every minute of this trip. Our guide, Holm, was great - her knowledge of Iceland was amazing and she was happy to show us as much as possible. The highlights of the trip were the waterfalls - everywhere, The Blue Lagoon was lovely but the bonus was seeing the Northern Lights (we didn't expect this in Early September).
Amazing tour with so much to see 2 , Auckland, New Zealand, May 2023
This was an amazing trip with a wonderful knowledgeable guide and outstanding driver. The itinerary was excellent and we saw and large amount of Iceland in the eight days. The highlights for me were seeing so many amazing waterfalls and as a bird lover the puffins were just delightful especially seeing them so close. The tour included whale watching read more and we did see a whale. The icebergs on the lake were also a must see. Iceland is an amazingly beautiful country that I would recommend a visit, but bring a down jacket, even in summer.
Frábær Ísland   3 , VIC, Australia, Sep 2022
We were lucky to get to see the Northern Lights on the 2nd night of tour. Unfortunately, we were not so lucky in the last three days because the fog was so thick, we could not see much. The tour director, Holm, was helpful and knowledgeable. The driver did a great job and was able to drive us to places safely despite the thick fog. Geysir is amazing read more but the falls are not up to our expectations. I would recommend people to see the falls in Iceland first before seeing other much bigger falls, such as Victoria Falls, Niaga Falls or Iguazu Falls because the falls in Iceland are like miniatures of those giant falls. Overall, it was an enjoyable tour with easy pace.
Iceland is like another world   3 , NSW, Australia, May 2022
We had a fantastic time on our Iceland trip. It was so different to anything we had experienced before that it was like travelling to another planet. The scenery was breathtaking and the wildlife fabulous. We will never forget the gorgeous puffins. We can highly recommend Globus and will be using them again. The standard of accommodation and meals read more was very high. Our guide (Holm) was very knowledgeable and professional. We never did get to try the fermented Greenland shark though.
Magic Iceland 5 , QLD, Australia, Sep 2019
A breathtaking experience. Awesome scenery at every turn though the tour could have taken us to explore Black Beach further as a group. We had the opportunity to see the Northern Lights and taste Icelandic cuisine. I believe the tour should have included a walking tour of Reykjavík and the opportunity to visit the Sun Voyager, Harpa and Church which was omitted from the tour.
Iceland was amazing 4 , VIC, Australia, Aug 2018
We both loved Iceland. It had so much to offer and the accommodation was excellent. There is so much diversity in this small country and so much to see, certainly one to add to any bucket list.
Taste of Iceland 2 , VIC, Australia, Aug 2018
This was a convenient way to see many highlights of Iceland. Stress free with no driving to do and no worries about booking accommodation and tours. Some days were very long with too much time at rest stops and insufficient time before dinner but overall we enjoyed the tour and travelled through some stunning scenery.
Spectacular Iceland   5 , QLD, Australia, Aug 2017
This is a fantastic tour to an extraordinarily, magnificent part of the world. All aspects of the tour were well organised. The Tour leader was enthusiastic, organised and informative which made for a seamless experience for us. We would thoroughly recommend this tour. Put in on your bucket list, sooner rather than later!
Iceland - too much to see, too little time   8 , NSW, Australia, Jul 2017
Iceland was certainly more than I expected. The diversity of the terrain and sights - from lava fields, miles of moss covered rocks, green farmland, majestic waterfalls, ice flows, whales and hot springs - were fascinating. Holm, our tour guide, was exceptional, regaling us with Icelandic history and stories of vikings and trolls. We also had great read more weather with day time temperatures up to the low twenties (celcius) and lots of sunshine, amazing for the beginning of August.

The standard of accommodation was fine, considering the small population in all towns visited except Reykjavik and Akureyri. Yes, it is expensive compared to Australia but no more so than the other Nordic countries. On the whole, I found the tour to be good value when compared to other advertised tours of Iceland. I've booked several tours through Global Journeys and, as always, Yvonne provided exceptional service.
