TOUR HIGHLIGHT - HISTORIC SPOT: While originally built as a castle in the middle-ages, its utilisation changed numerous times through history. It reached notoriety during WW2 when it was designated to be a Prisoner of War Camp for Allied Officers. Due to its location Field Marshall Goring declared it 'escape-proof', he was soon proved wrong when many daring escape plans were hatched, including the building of a glider! Over 170 attempts were apparently made, but only 32 men actually escaped.

The Old Town is also home to traditional sausage restaurants that have been serving the Nurenberg sausage since the 15th century.
