Exploring the best of the Kimberleys with APT
Essence of the Kimberley

After a rocky start due to poor communication between APT and Cable Beach resort, we met our APT tour guide/coach driver, Scotty who proceeded to exceed our expectations in his leadership and infectious enthusiasm for the Kimberley region. Travelling in APT’s go anywhere, very comfortable, coach made the long distances over often corrugated dirt roads read more and through river beds well worthwhile. The Bungle Bungles, El Questro Homestead, (a wonderful upgrade option), hikes through Emma Gorge, Tunnel Cave, Bell Gorge and Galvan Gorge were spectacular whilst the Ord River Cruise was well worthwhile. Our privately arranged Sea plane flight, with luxury overnight stay, to the Horizontal Falls ended our adventure on a fantastic note. A final note for APT is to take responsibility for arranging all meal options throughout the trip, and ensure the guests have a proper introduction to each other on the night prior to our departure, so all guests are provided with the same level of service they expect from APT.
A great trip
Essence of the Kimberley with Kimberley Coastal Expedition (Land in Reverse)

We firstly did the 9 day APT Broome to Broome overland trip followed by the 10 day Broome to Darwin coastal expedition booked through Global Journeys. I am glad we did it in that order and not the sea going followed by land option. The 9 day adventure was in a purpose built Mercedes coach with 20 other hardy souls. It was a bit of a rugged trip with read more some serious trekking to get to each waterfall or waterhole. At the end of each day we were rewarded with excellent meals at the various accommodation stops. These were all very good, mainly glam tents style. Overall this part of our trip was well worth the effort, enhanced by our lively coach driver/guide Scotty. With respect to the booking process with Global Journeys, all went smoothly, no issues at all.
The next section was a 5 star cruise out of Broome. The trip start was encountered some industrial action in Broome which meant everything had to be transported on and off the ship by Zodiac. Nothing like starting an adventure with an adventure. Overall this was a very relaxing trip, food and staff were all excellent. The off ship excursions by zodiacs were well organised and very good. The only minor criticism is that APT were a little risk averse. A normal non APT trip would have included such thing as snorkeling on Ashmore Reef which was supposed to be a highlight, but with APT this was not an option. I suppose losing one or two guests due to sharks was thought as not worth it. However, overall, a great trip.

West Coast disapointment

In comparison to the Kimberley tour this was disappointing. I expected a different experience with a full quota of passengers and the itinerary, however the accommodation was well below the standard I expected for the cost. Dietary requirements were not well catered for and one picnic lunch was two slices of gf bread with a handful of salad leaves - read more no butter no protein. I think this tour needs to be reviewed and revamped. All the passengers got on well together but I know there was discontent about the very restricted use of the onboard toilet. It was only used once (in an emergency-a requirement) and the bushes were still recommended as the better option. Not acceptable and I have included this in my APT feedback.

Kimberley Complete with Horizontal Falls

This was an amazing experience. Our guide/driver Trish was fabulous. A small number of passengers made this trip very personal and everyone was very enthusiastic. A couple of disappointing accommodations but the APT camps were excellent. Dietary requirements were generally good especially at APT lodges. I would recommend this trip and the APT experience on this tour.

A wonderful trip. Coral Bay, Ningaloo Reef, Horizontal Falls to the Bungle Bungles were some of our favourites. Dave and Macca lead us through the various areas with comprehensive knowledge and commentary. We booked our APT Tour using Global Journeys (Hannah). We had a fantastic time 10/10. 100% met (or actually exceeded) our expectations. Booking process was easy and Hannah helped us manage the process smoothly and always replied quickly to our queries. Trip itself was holiday of a lifetime. 20 of us in the group and we all became 'mates' very quickly. read more Driver / Tour guide Leigh was totally amazing, great personality, unbelievable knowledge and organised everything perfectly.
Highlights?? there are too many to mention, but helicopter ride over the Bunge Bungles would be in the top five. Walk to Mitchell Falls, tour through Arnhem Land / Kakadu National Park, huge selection of Aboriginal rock art to view, Emma Groge walk, numerous amazing swimming spots such as Zebedee Springs are just a few that come to mind. Accommodation at APT Wilderness Lodges (ensuite glamping) and the cuisine we were served was also another definite highlight. Only downside is that, due to the distances that need to be covered, we spent an average of five hours on the (very comfortable, with Starlink) 4WD bus and also this meant lots of early starts each day eg. breakfast at 6am for 6.45am departure.
