Uzbekistan - more wonderful in real life

This was my 3rd Intrepid tour and 1st Intrepid Premium tour. 11 travellers from UK, USA, Canada and 2 other Australians. Very good tour leader who arranged restaurants every day for lunch and dinner as well as organising our travel by 2 excellent, modern hi-speed trains and a domestic flight. I really enjoyed staying in the old town areas of Bukhara read more (particularly the Jewish style house hotel) and Khiva. Stepping out from our hotels we were in the midst of the wonderful blue and green Islamic architecture. We even got to climb a minaret (for a fee)! Travelling by metro in Tashkent and visiting numerous wonderfully, individually decorated stations was another highlight. From what I have heard Uzbekistan is "the pick" of the 5 stans. This was my final tour of 3 tours in 6 weeks that I booked with the friendly and professional assistance of Georgie and Hannah.

The Silk Road trip of Uzbekistan was fantastic. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and went well beyond for us many times. I loved the old cities of Kiva, Bukhara and also Samarkand. As a group we got along very well. The locals were very hospitable and friendly. Highly recommend this tour, there was a lot of construction going on so experiencing read more this tour sooner rather than later would be ideal. Maybe a second night in the yurt camp to spend a day at the salt lake to break up the trip would be beneficial. It was quite a busy tour.
Fantastic trip through key places in Uzbekistan. Saw a lots of amazing buildings and heard much of the country’s very rich history. Lovely local people everywhere who were very friendly to our tour group. The local silks, paintings and ceramics were inexpensive and gorgeous. Our tour guide Hamza was a star!

The trip was above and beyond my expectations. I was impressed with not only the professionalism in the organisation of the tour but also when things didn't quite go to plan how they were handled. The personal relationships of the guide with the local people made a huge difference to our amazing experience and I doubt very much that we would have had read more this with any other travel group. Every day I was blown away with new scenery and experiences not expected. Great company, lots of laughs, special care and constant assistance from guides and drivers. Excellent accommodation and food - I would do it all again in a heartbeat. VERY happy to promote Mongolia as a 'must see' country with wonderful hospitality and delightful and very different read more experiences every day. Now my friends understand that it was NOT a crazy idea to go travelling on my own to a remote and foreign country. Our photos tell the whole story.
