Welcome to Palermo!

At 6 pm, meet your Tour Director and travel companions for a welcome dinner at a local restaurant. (D)

Sicilian Sights

Your introduction to Palermo starts this morning with a guided sightseeing tour of Palermo's highlights, including a visit to the cathedral. Take a scenic drive to Monreale for a panoramic view of the Conca d'Oro and a visit to the Norman Cathedral. This afternoon and evening, enjoy free time to see more of Palermo. (B)

TOUR HIGHLIGHT - LEGENDARY LIVES: The story of the splendid Monreale Cathedral began as Arabs took control of Palermo. They transformed the cathedral into a mosque and banished the Bishop of Palermo from town. Not wishing to venture too far from his beloved cathedral, the bishop settled in a small village in the hills overlooking Palermo, the site of modern-day Monreale. There, he built a modest church to keep the flame of local Christian worship alive. Today the cathedral is known for its stunning mosaics that cover an area of over 64.500sq ft.

Sweet & Salty Sicily

Stop at the medieval hilltop town of Erice. Enjoy some free time to meander the narrow, cobbled streets and admire the views. Drive to the coastal town of Marsala, learn about one of its oldest industries with a guided visit of a Salt Mill. Later, try the famous Marsala wine during a tasting experience. (B) 99 mi / 160 km.

Join your Local Guide for a walk through this remarkable archaeological site to see the beautiful Greek temples. (B/D) 93 mi / 150 km.

TOUR HIGHLIGHT - ANCIENT ARCHAEOLOGY: The ruins of Akragas remain Sicily's most amazing archaeological site. The impressively well-preserved Tempio della Concordia sits in a spectacular setting upon a ridge where it served as a beacon for homecoming sailors and today draws enthralled visitors to revel in the remarkable Valley of the Temples.

Ancient Artistry in Sicily

Travel through Central Sicily and stop in Piazza Armerina for a guided visit of the Villa Romana del Casale, housing one of the largest and richest collections of Roman mosaics, including the famous “Ancient Bikini Girls.” Later, continue your journey to Ragusa. (B/D) 118 mi / 190 km.

The trip was well run and stress free. Be prepared for early starts, but that does mean lots was packed into every day.
My only criticism would be that the local tour guides can be too wordy and often boring. We had one outstanding guide, but the rest were less impressive. I felt an introduction on the bus by our tour director, then free time to explore read more was much more enjoyable. This happened on some of the places visited. Hannah was great and answered all enquiries promptly.
Sensational Sicily 0 , ACT, Australia, Oct 2024
A late review addition, we meant to do this a while ago and just forgot! We had originally intended to do this tour in Sept 2020....and only got to do it in Sept 2024 - damn you, covid...! Remarkably, this ended up being the identical tour, with the same departure date! This was an amazing tour, one we had wanted to do for a very long time. Tour guide read more Gigi, and driver Pietro were fantastic from the moment we arrived. Gigi did an amazing job looking to accommodate so many different needs across the tour, and Pietro was brilliant and professional in getting us to each destination safely and on time.
Highlights were everywhere, with Palermo, Taormina and Erice the standouts. Highly recommended.
Wonderful tour   7 , NSW , Australia, Jun 2023
Another hassle-free booking with Jemma at Global Journeys for the Globus The Sicilian small departure tour. We had 22 in our group that all interacted well and our tour director Nives and Dario were outstanding, often dropping suitcases at our hotel while we were doing a nearby guided local tour. The pace was excellent, just enough time to explore read more each location...but not dragging on too long ...highlights were a market street food lunch, Mazara del Vallo walking tour, optional Palazzo visit in Palermo, Savoca, Ragusa, and Giardini Naxos. Our hotels were beyond our expectations as were the included meals. It targeted all the places I wanted to see and more.
Great trip, so many hisorical sights 5 , NSW, Australia, Jun 2019
Enjoyed this trip tremendously. Great food, tours and company. Sicily is so interesting. Well organised. Would have liked the tour to start and finish near the airport.
A great tour of Sicily 5 , WA, Australia, May 2019
A great tour of Sicily. First time using Globus and was happy with the itinerary and accommodation provided apart from one hotel. Sabrina the tour guide was brilliant and Raphaelle the driver was so skilful driving on the narrowest of roads around bends and up into the mountains. There were only 4 others from Australia on the trip but everyone got on read more well. It ticked all the boxes for what we wanted to see and the pace didn't feel too hectic. We would recommend.
Review of The Sicilian 8 , VIC, Australia, Sep 2018
We enjoyed the tour immensely, everything went smoothly. Would highly recommend this tour if you want to see Sicily. Our tour director Giovanna and coach driver Franci were very professional and nothing was a problem. We got value for our money.
