Welcome to Palermo!

At 6 pm, meet your Tour Director and travel companions for a welcome dinner at a local restaurant. (D)

PALERMO: Guided sightseeing includes the Church of Immacolata and a visit to the cathedral. Scenic drive to Monreale for a panoramic view of the Conca d'Oro and a visit to the Norman Cathedral. (B)

TOUR HIGHLIGHT - The story of the splendid Monreale Cathedral began as Arabs took control of Palermo. They transformed the cathedral into a mosque and banished the Bishop of Palermo from town. Not wishing to venture too far from his beloved cathedral, the Bishop settled in a small village in the hills overlooking Palermo, the site of modern-day Monreale. There, he built a modest church to keep the flame of local Christian worship alive. Today the cathedral is known for its stunning mosaics that cover an area of over 64.500sq ft.

Ancient Artistry in Sicily

PIAZZA ARMERINA: Take a guided visit to the Villa Romana del Casale with the largest and most complex collection of Roman mosaics in the world. (B/D) 130 mi / 210 km.

TOUR HIGHLIGHT - ART & ARCHITECTURE: Explore the extraordinary example of Roman power in one of the most luxurious villas of its kind in the Italian countryside. Marvel at the magnificently preserved mosaics that embellish the Villa Romana del Casale, designed and installed by African mosaic workers and the strength of the Roman influence and power throughout the Mediterranean region.

Historic Streets & Sweets

Wonderful tour   7 , NSW , Australia, Jun 2023
Another hassle-free booking with Jemma at Global Journeys for the Globus The Sicilian small departure tour. We had 22 in our group that all interacted well and our tour director Nives and Dario were outstanding, often dropping suitcases at our hotel while we were doing a nearby guided local tour. The pace was excellent, just enough time to explore ...read more each location...but not dragging on too long ...highlights were a market street food lunch, Mazara del Vallo walking tour, optional Palazzo visit in Palermo, Savoca, Ragusa, and Giardini Naxos. Our hotels were beyond our expectations as were the included meals. It targeted all the places I wanted to see and more.
Great trip, so many hisorical sights 5 , NSW, Australia, Jun 2019
Enjoyed this trip tremendously. Great food, tours and company. Sicily is so interesting. Well organised. Would have liked the tour to start and finish near the airport.
A great tour of Sicily 5 , WA, Australia, May 2019
A great tour of Sicily. First time using Globus and was happy with the itinerary and accommodation provided apart from one hotel. Sabrina the tour guide was brilliant and Raphaelle the driver was so skilful driving on the narrowest of roads around bends and up into the mountains. There were only 4 others from Australia on the trip but everyone got on ...read more well. It ticked all the boxes for what we wanted to see and the pace didn't feel too hectic. We would recommend.
Review of The Sicilian 8 , VIC, Australia, Sep 2018
We enjoyed the tour immensely, everything went smoothly. Would highly recommend this tour if you want to see Sicily. Our tour director Giovanna and coach driver Franci were very professional and nothing was a problem. We got value for our money.
