Overview

Read 5 reviews and enjoy exclusive savings on Globus 10 Day Spectacular Alaska!. From mountains to mammals, everything is bigger in Alaska. In the 20+ hours of summer sunlight a day, even the produce grows to fair-winning proportions. Of course, the 70-pound Matanuska Valley cabbage is just the beginning of the big sights this sun-soaked tour of Alaska has to offer. Just wait until you cruise along the three-mile face of the Columbia Glacier, sail by the calving tidewater glaciers of Kenai Fjords National Park and ascend into Denali National Park – home of...read more North America’s highest peak – by way of the world-famous Alaska Railroad.

Other big moments include panning for gold at Fairbanks’ Gold Dredge #8, seeing a mushing demonstration at the home of an Iditarod champion, and witnessing the grandest of wildlife from Alaska’s majestic coasts to its monumental crests. While spotting a giant whale, caribou, moose, or grizzly might be “no biggie” to the locals, we think you’ll agree, this Alaska vacation is huge.

Venture over Tahneta Pass for wonderful vistas of Matanuska and Worthington Glaciers. Continue to the Wrangell-St. Elias National Park & Preserve Visitor Center, the largest National Park in the United States and visit the Ahtna Cultural Center, a place to connect to the Alaska Native culture with exhibits on Ahtna Athabascan history. Stop at Bridal Veil Falls before arriving in the seaside port of Valdez. (B/D)

TOUR HIGHLIGHT - NATURAL WONDERS: Located near the head of a deep fjord in Prince William Sound, Valdez is a mix of tidewater glaciers, rainforests, majestic mountains, and wildlife on land and sea. Orcas, humpback whales, otters, sea lions, and birds are among the many animals you might spy from this spectacular seaport.

True Fish Stories

This morning, visit the Valdez Museum for a docent-led tour. Then board your boat for a cruise on Prince William Sound. Cruise along the 3-mile face of Columbia Glacier with a watchful eye out for wildlife, including seals, sea otters, birds, and even whales! Before returning to Valdez, see the Trans-Alaska Pipeline Terminal, where supertankers are loaded with crude oil from Prudhoe Bay. (B/L)

LOCAL FAVORITE - CULTURE & TRADITIONS: Get an inside look at the rich traditions of the Native Alaskan culture and events that shaped the lives of early explorers at the Valdez Museum. Discover the history of the Gold Rush and Trans-Alaska Pipeline, and the impact earthquakes and oil spills had on Valdez.

Arctic Adventure

Enjoy great scenery all the way as you travel along Richardson Highway. Stop at Delta Junction Roadhouse, a living history homestead with a museum, original roadhouse, and farm animals. See the longest elevated stretch of the trans-Alaska pipeline, the Tanana Pipeline River Bridge, a 1200-foot span with a unique suspension design. Then, head west on the Alaska Highway to Fairbanks, the state's second-largest city. Enjoy a free evening. (B)

Happy Trails Kennels was established in 1982 with the express purpose to raise and train happy, fast long-distance sled dogs to race and win the Iditarod. Martin's loving care and faith in his hounds was made evident by his Iditarod wins to earn the 9-year record for the fastest Iditarod finish. Meet the Iditarod champions and learn about the relationship between musher and dog, how they race, and care for their dogs. Watch a demonstration on mushing, complete with a mock Iditarod checkpoint, and get a chance to play with the sled dogs!

Great itinerary-beautiful country to visit 0 , SA, Australia, Aug 2025
Globus trip with 32 passengers-which was a good thing. Space to spread out on the tour bus. Enthsiastic and knowledgeable tour director and equally so driver. Itinerary was great and 2 night stops perfect. We felt however that many of the extras once offered with globus are not there any more. Water eg not provided and hotels now offer minimal starter... read more kits and nasty disposable "dishes" in rooms. Tour meals included were quite basic affairs and did not provide alcoholic drinks as was once the norm...we've been spoilt in the past obviously on tour, particularly with quite special dinners in external restaurants. Dinner being the focus to socialise with fellow travellers rather than rushed meals with guest speakers and home by 7pm!
Our Long Awaited Alaska Trip Did Not Disappoint   0 , Christchurch, New Zealand, Jul 2024
Globus truly gave us The Spectacular Alaska Experience. Our tour director, Todd and driver, were friendly and accommodating. Both were knowledgeable providing information and history on the areas as we traveled in the motor coach. The accommodations were comfortable, and it was good having on site dining options, as on some evenings we got to our rooms... read more quite late. Not that you realised as it was still light through to 11pm at least! The arranged excursions were all great and gave us the experiences we were after.

Our viewing of wildlife was not as frequent as we had hoped. It is just luck being in the right place at the right time. We did see Moose, Caribou, sealions and sea otters. (Take your binoculars). Our highlight was on the last day on a cruise into the Kenai Fjord where we witnessed a group of humpback whales bubble feeding on a shoal of fish. Truly amazing. If considering this tour, or any trip to Alaska, their sunny days are rare with most days cloudy and/or wet. This can mean the mountains are not visible at times and you need more warmer clothes than true summer ones.
A wonder-filled tour through Alaska. 1 , WA, Australia, Jul 2022
We both thoroughly enjoyed our Globus Tour of Alaska. We saw much, learned even more, and that is what we enjoy about these sort of tours. Thanks to Hannah for recommending, and Globus for executing a magnificent tour.
Alaska at its Spectacular Best 2 , NSW, Australia, Jun 2022
My husband and I have just returned from Globus' 10 day Spectacular Alaska tour and it did not disappoint. Beautiful scenery, icebergs, glaciers and plenty of animals to see. Even Denali was visible which was truly inspiring. Alex our travel director - being a local - was very knowledgeable and had many great stories to tell and Bob our coach driver... read more was always very professional. There were a few long driving days due to the amount of territory we had to cover but plenty of breaks were provided along the way. Would thoroughly recommend this tour and Globus.
Where are the bears? 1 , VIC, Australia, Jun 2016
It was an okay tour. Not many wild animals to spot. We thought it would be like a safari tour, where we could spot a lot of wild animals (moose, renders and sheep) roaming around the big landscape, particularly during the Wilderness Expedition. Accommodation was good with the exception of Fairbanks: the room is too big for nothing (considering we were... read more out all day), dark, has dirty couches, old. The vanity is too small in comparison to the room size. At Denali the cabins are not suitable for hot summer days. The room was like an oven when we entered. The fan right above your head would just give you a headache and noise. The room was shaking when people were walking outside, particularly when the porters were dragging suitcases at 5am.
