Pairing military tradition with contemporary music, the Tattoo has something for everyone. What many maybe don’t know, is that since it's inception, the Tattoo has always included cutting edge music from the time.
No Year Is The Same
The Royal Edinburgh Military Tattoo celebrates musicians and performers from all around the world and the event's themes change every year so each Tattoo is different from the previous one. The regular Scottish and British regiments vary their musical and drill performances from year to year, and there are different guest regiments from various different countries.
Who Doesn't Like Fireworks!
Other than musical performances, with marches and other military ceremonies, you can also expect several spectacular firework displays at the tattoo throughout August! Friday & late night Saturday performances often offer an enhanced fireworks displays.

The accommodation was clean and some were family run and a touch of nostalgia, made it all perfect!! We had many organised meals, we found that such a help because the trip was jam packed with so much to see and do, it was very welcomed!! The one thing I would ad for the tour director is that I’m sure there would always be some who would welcome to be told about any Aurora sightings, no matter what time of the night!!!! So as not to miss this spectacular sight!!! The trip was a 22 day through England, Scotland ( magnificent Scottish highlands and Orkney Islands) Northern Ireland , beautiful Ireland, Wales, and back to England… all so magnificent!!! We really loved the trip and are very glad we chose Insight and Global Journeys…thanks to all involved!!

The tour was all encompassing perhaps too much. There was a lot of bus travel days where you didn't get to your accommodation until 6pm or later and then it was get ready for dinner. Some days where you finished at 4 especially if you were walking distance to city would have been nice. But overall, Trafalgar are great to travel with, very organised, ...read more take you to mostly the right places. Hotels are comfortable, meals are good but I would suggest you don't need to do all of the "optional" extras. Hannah from Global was excellent in all her organizing skills as per normal. Hannah was a great help to us in a previous booking which got cancelled because of Covid. She fought very hard in getting all our money back instead of credits which was fantastic.

Embrace the rain! There's no cover at the arena, however no performance of the Tattoo has ever been cancelled. In the event of inclement weather, rapmacs are available for purchase from the souvenir kiosk on the Castle Esplanade. Umbrellas are not permitted. Are there fireworks every night at the Edinburgh Tattoo?
The show's big bangs and fireworks display thunder across Edinburgh each night, particularly on Fridays and Saturdays when the Tattoo holds an extended fireworks display. What should we wear?
Lots of layers! It may be August, but dress as if you are going out to play in the snow. This means hats, scarves and gloves too.
