Welcome to the ancient city of Athens, the 'Cradle of Western Civilisation'. If your schedule is tight, savor traditional Greek coffee at a café with a view of the city's iconic ruins, soaking in the historic ambiance before your cruise departs. If you've got time to explore the Acropolis stands as a must-see, a UNESCO World Heritage site, adorned with iconic structures like the Parthenon and nearby Temple of Olympian Zeus. The nearby Acropolis Museum showcases stunning artifacts from ancient Greece, providing deeper insight into the city's heritage.
Piraeus is located about 12 km (7.5 miles) from the city center and it takes roughly 20-30 minutes to reach by taxi or train. A taxi ride from the airport to Piraeus port will take approximately 40-60 minutes, depending on the traffic. The taxi fare (indicative only) is around 45 euros in the daytime and 64 euros at night (24:00-05:00).
Ephesus, a marvel of ancient architecture, invites visitors to explore its well-preserved ruins and relive the grandeur of the Roman Empire. Key highlights include the Library of Celsus, a stunning facade that once housed over 12,000 scrolls, and the Great Theatre, which could seat 25,000 spectators for dramatic performances.
Travellers can also wander the streets of this historic city to uncover the Temple of Artemis—one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. Although only foundations and a single column remain, the site's past significance as a major religious and commercial center is palpable. A morning visit is recommended to avoid the crowds and heat.
Kusadasi's main cruise terminal is Ege Port, conveniently located just 1 kilometer (0.6 miles) from the city center, a quick 5-minute walk. Its proximity to the ancient city of Ephesus makes it a prime spot for history enthusiasts.
In the town itself, explore the bustling bazaar, where you can find traditional Turkish crafts and spices. Take a leisurely stroll along the seafront promenade, enjoying views of the azure waters and vibrant marina. For a taste of local cuisine, try a traditional Turkish breakfast or fresh seafood at one of the many waterfront restaurants.
Rhodes, the largest of Greece's Dodecanese islands, offers a blend of medieval history and sun-kissed beaches. Start your exploration at the Palace of the Grand Master, a stunning medieval fortress in the heart of the Old Town. Wander through the cobbled streets, where the mix of Byzantine, Gothic, and Ottoman architecture tells tales of the island's storied past.
For a relaxing afternoon, head to Elli Beach, just a short walk from the port. Enjoy the crystal-clear waters and perhaps try some water sports. Kotor is a beautiful walled medieval city of twisting, pink-paved streets, markets and architecture reflecting Byzantine to Venetian influences. Nestled between the Adriatic Sea to the west and the limestone-covered mountain range of Mt. Lovćen to the east, this historic city boasts a magnificent natural setting. Ships will dock or anchor offshore at this port.

Lying on the Adriatic Sea's eastern shore, Split is known for its terracotta roofs, whitewashed buildings, palm-tree-lined promenade and azure waters. A city of romantic beauty, it was built around the historic Diocletian’s Palace. Ships will dock or anchor at this port.

The whole of the Maltese capital Valletta is UNESCO World Heritage listed and occupies a peninsula in the north-east of the island. From the fountain of Tritons to Saint-Elme fort, there are as many majestic streets as there are narrow staircase vennels to explore. The painted loggia and carved corbels on the tall houses will accompany you in your explorations, and you’ll rarely be bothered by traffic.
You can visit the Grandmasters palace decorated with coats of arms and frescoes. Saint-John’s cathedral and the ramparts which have guarded the city since the 16th century are also among the most emblematic sites of the city. Arranged in terraces, the Barrakka Gardens will punctuate your promenade with a green and floral experience.

Gibraltar, a British Overseas Territory located at the southern tip of the Iberian Peninsula, is known for its strategic significance and natural beauty. Start your visit with a trip to the Rock of Gibraltar, where you can take a cable car to the top for stunning views of the Mediterranean and Atlantic. While there, explore the Upper Rock Nature Reserve, home to the famous Barbary macaques and the impressive St. Michael's Cave.
In the afternoon, visit the Great Siege Tunnels, a fascinating network of passages dug during the 18th century. Las Palmas, the capital of Gran Canaria in the Canary Islands, offers a blend of historic charm and vibrant urban life. It’s no surprise The Shops are awarded “Best Onboard Shopping” from Porthole magazine year after year. You’ll find fine merchandise from brands like Swarovski, Chanel, Estée Lauder, Clinique, Lancôme, Calvin Klein, Citizen and Tissot, plus local crafts, keepsakes and souvenirs. Venues vary by ship and are subject to change.
Fort Lauderdale is famous for its beaches, arts, culture and events. More than just an arrival and departure port, the city offers cruise guests an abundance of activities. From shopping on Las Olas Boulevard, to gondola rides on the canals, to a historic riverfront.
Nature enthusiasts head to Hugh Taylor Birch State Park for walking and biking trails, travel down to the Florida Everglades for an airboat tour, or beat the heat with a trip to the Museum of Science and Discovery.
Ships will dock at one of the biggest cruise ports in the world, Port Everglades.

The food was varied and there was something for all tastes. Though I wished I could of shown them how to make mash potatoes and custard. Both were low standard and almost not edible. They nailed the roast meats, they were brilliant. If you are lactose intolerant or allergic to dairy you can forget the dessert bar. I lived on jelly the entire cruise. I wasn’t going to miss out on dessert. 😂 The staff were divine.
The rooms perfect for what you need. Beds super comfy with awesome soft fluffy pillows and the doona cosy. The shower was clearly designed around a 5 year. It’s tiny. You can’t bend in it. So shaving legs, forget it unless you stick your leg out and put your foot on the toilet lid. The laundry was awesome. It’s where I found a duck. I was extremely disappointed when the only two ports I was desperate to visit and were solely the reason I chose this cruise we were unable to disembark due to high winds. No fault of the cruise company but extremely disappointing as I’ll never get that opportunity again.
Dubrovnik and Mykonos 😔 I didn’t enjoy Tunisia and Kotor. We had professional photos taken on the last night offered. Rookie mistake. Our photos were terrible. Even the Manager agreed and gave me two digital ones for free if I paid for two printed ones. There was literally only two worth purchasing. It is wise to have photos taken throughout the whole cruise and by different photographers. That way you have many choices and the photographers have different skill levels. We learnt the hard way. For those of you cruising for the first time, they have a crew appreciation fee. Where they charge your room $17 per person each day. I’m assuming the money goes to top up the staff wages. That’s another $680 you are charged on top of gratuity and the cost of the cruise. It certainly adds up. Don’t forget the drinks and wifi packages. Which we did not do as we just couldn’t afford it.
Island Princess Cruise is perfect if you want a small ship, a handful of activities, enjoy meeting older people, and looking for a very quiet relaxing time. Unfortunately that was not what I was looking for, and came away disappointed. As I previously mentioned, I should of researched it better.
