Itinerary

Welcome to Calgary! Your Tour Director is on hand late this afternoon to answer any questions.

The discovery of oil converted this cattle-ranching town into a thriving, sophisticated city. Sightseeing highlights downtown, Fort Calgary, Stampede Park, the Saddledome, and Canada Olympic Park. Next, drive west through the foothills of the Rockies into Banff National Park. On arrival, enjoy an orientation tour.

Enjoy the day exploring Banff, Canada's first national park. Hike the many wilderness trails, horseback ride, golf, stroll through Banff townsite, or simply relax at the hot springs. The park is the perfect place for wildlife watching as it is home to 53 species of mammals. You may spot some of these amazing creatures in their natural habitat. The most commonly seen are deer, elk, and big horn sheep.

First stop is stunning Lake Louise, with its turquoise waters reflecting the surrounding mountains and glaciers. Then precipitous gorges, snowcapped mountain ranges, and more exquisite lakes come into view as your motorcoach scales three mountain passes. Stop at the Columbia Icefield for another trip highlight and experience the Ice Explorer, an all-terrain vehicle that travels on ice measuring 750 feet thick!

Late this afternoon, let it flow on an optional float trip down the historic Athabasca River. Spend the next two nights in Jasper National Park. An orientation tour showcases the area's unspoiled beauty.

A day at leisure to explore the largest national park in the Canadian Rockies. This morning, consider joining the optional narrated cruise on magical Maligne Lake to Spirit Island*. On the return journey, view picturesque Medicine Lake and Maligne Canyon keeping an eye out for native wildlife, including grizzly bears, moose, and elk. Later, perhaps do some hiking or peruse the shops in town.

*This optional excursion begins operating in late May/early June.

An exciting morning as you board the Rocky Mountaineer for a 2-day, all-daylight, classic rail journey from the Canadian Rockies to the Pacific Coast. En route, pass Mount Robson, the highest mountain in the Canadian Rockies. Follow the North Thompson River and enjoy vistas of the Monashee Mountains. Enjoy free time in Kamloops this evening. (B/L)

This morning your train adventure continues as you head through the ranchlands along the Thompson River. View the stark beauty of Fraser Canyon and the turbulence of mighty Hell's Gate. After an evening arrival in Vancouver, transfer to your hotel. (B/L)

Morning sightseeing focuses on Vancouver's Chinatown, Gastown, and beautiful Stanley Park. Afterward, sail through the spectacular Gulf Islands, known for their Mediterranean-like climate. Afternoon sightseeing in Victoria includes world-famous Butchart Gardens, Bastion Square, and Thunderbird Park with its collection of totem poles.

Morning departure via ferry for Vancouver. Your vacation ends at Vancouver International Airport. Please schedule flights after 2:00 pm.

Canadian Rockies 0 , NSW, Australia, Jun 2025
We had a wonderful time on a Cosmos tour . Western Canada by rail. The tour did not disappoint. We had the best time and the best tour director Mark Love. Highly recommend this tour.
It has been a fantastic trip! 2 , NSW, Australia, Jul 2016
A very nice mixture of travel mode with coach, train and the all day ferry. The summer was an excellent choice to do this trip as it is warm enough to enjoy and see more of the beautiful countryside in Canada. Most of the fellow travellers came from the UK the rest were a mix. Everyone got on very well. There were too many "highlights", I can not just ...read more pick one. Can not speak highly enough about our tour director, Alma, whose enthusiasm, knowledge and organizational skills were exceptional. Thank you!
Disappointed with tour guide 4 , QLD, Australia, Sep 2015
The tour guide was rude, unhelpful and not very knowledgeable about the the places we visited, talking to other guest who had done previous tours they said this was an exception not the rule. Unfortunately because this was my first experience with Cosmos I am unlikely to use this company again. Example - you would expect a tour guide to answer questions ...read more not say I have already talked about that or will be doing so in the future. I have done many tours with other companies and was very disappointed with this tour guide.
Very good value for money 2 , QLD, Australia, May 2015
This tour lived up to expectations, very good value for money, the Rocky Mountaineer was excellent, their staff were extremely accommodating, entertaining and did their very best to make our experience one to remember. Transfers from hotel/train/hotel were seamless and hasslefree, keeping everyone in a great holiday spirit. Well done Global Journeys, congratulations on putting our two tours together.
Tour guide made the tour very enjoyable 1 , QLD, Australia, May 2015
At the beginning we were a little unsure about our tour guide. He was quite mature and seemed to dither when providing commentary. It soon became clear that this was not the case but that he had so much to tell us he sometimes did not finish every subject. He made the tour very enjoyable.
One of the best two weeks I have ever spent 1 , Australia, Jul 2014
The tour from start to finish just got better and better the further it went. Gerry the drivers jokes even got better. Darcey the tour directer was always there and willing to help in any way. His knowledge was extremely good in all areas. With the weather and the scenery getting better every day it was just amazing. And then with the optional excursions ...read more it was truly one of the best two weeks I have ever spent. Thank you very much.
