Itinerary

Welcome to New Orleans! Your Tour Director is on hand from 3-6:00 p.m. this afternoon to answer any questions.

Once settled into your hotel, perhaps head out and start exploring this vibrant city full of character, interesting shops, and delicious Cajun and Creole cuisine.

Your guided tour this morning is dedicated to the sights and sounds of this unique, culturally rich city. First, visit the French Quarter, including St. Louis Cathedral and Jackson Square. Next, learn about the city's unique burial customs at an above-ground cemetery, followed by a leisurely drive down historic St. Charles Avenue to enjoy its stately mansions and clanging streetcars. A lavish optional brunch at the iconic Court of Two Sisters features many of New Orleans' culinary classics as well as live music.

The remainder of the day is at leisure. Perhaps today, or tomorrow, take an optional Plantation Tour to learn more about southern history and culture or cruise down bayous seeking out alligators on an optional Swamp Tour. (B)

A day to explore at your own pace. Stroll through the centuries-old French Quarter or take a carriage ride while listening to tales of voodoo queens and pirates. History enthusiasts may venture out to a plantation to catch a glimpse of life the way it used to be in the Old South. Get jazzed about music on an optional jazz dinner cruise aboard a traditional paddlewheel steamboat. (B)

Drive through the heart of Cajun Country to Baton Rouge. Visit LSU Rural Life Museum & Windrush Gardens to explore cultural features of 18th and 19th century rural Southern life as well as their expansive gardens. Then go on an orientation tour of the city that features the art deco State Capitol, the tallest in the country. Next, on to Natchez, a thriving port in the golden years of the cotton trade. This evening, perhaps join our optional dinner and Historic Antebellum Home Tour. (B)

Drive through rural Mississippi to Memphis. On arrival, see city highlights on an included orientation tour. Don't miss an optional excursion to the birthplace of Rock-n-Roll at Sun Studio, followed by dinner. Then perhaps venture out later to Beale Street where Delta blues, jazz, rock ‘n' roll, R & B, and gospel join in a melting pot of American music. (CB)

A trip to Memphis would not be complete without visiting Graceland, the palatial home of “The King,” Elvis Presley. Our guided audio tour focuses on the opulent 15,000-square-foot mansion and the meditation garden where Elvis, and his daughter and grandson, are laid to rest. Later, if you haven't done so already, get a taste of Memphis with some authentic southern barbecue, visit the National Civil Rights Museum, or experience the world-famous Duck March at the elegant Peabody Hotel.

This morning, leave the “Home of the Blues” as you head for Nashville, the “Capital of Country Music” with an afternoon arrival. This evening, you have reserved seating for an unforgettable show at the world-famous Grand Ole Opry, a mecca for country musicians since 1925.

Its association with country music has made the name “Nashville” world famous, but it's not just music fans who will find this bustling Southern city a delight. Start your day with a visit to RCA Studio B, one of the country's most revered, and Nashville's oldest surviving recording studio. Afterward, sightseeing includes the recording studios of Music Row, a life-size reproduction of the Parthenon, the State Capitol, and Bicentennial State Park.

The remainder of the day is free. Perhaps take an optional excursion to the Country Music Hall of Fame with its glittering costumes, rare instruments, and Elvis Presley's “solid gold” Cadillac.

First stop today is Chattanooga, home of the Chattanooga Choo Choo. Then, enter the “Peach State” of Georgia and journey to its fast-growing metropolis, Atlanta, home of 1996 summer Olympics. An orientation tour is followed by a visit to the National Park Visitor Center that honors civil rights leader Martin Luther King Jr. and Coretta Scott King. This evening is at leisure.

Head south through rich, rolling farmland to the historic seaport of Savannah for a 2-night stay. En route, make a lunch stop in Macon, “Where Soul Lives”, and home of music greats Little Richard and Otis Redding. Arrive in Savannah and begin soaking up its sultry charms. After an orientation tour, stroll the historic squares shaded by huge live oak trees and surrounded by charming churches and elegant homes. (B)

A day at leisure. Perhaps explore the city on the optional Hop on/Hop off Trolley and see attractions like City Market, Forsyth Park, and the Mercer House, or spend time shopping on cobblestoned River Street. This evening, perhaps seek out some Low Country cuisine at one of the many local restaurants. (CB)

Travel into the “Sunshine State” of Florida, stopping first at St. Augustine, the oldest European founded city in the United States. You will see the Government House and the Spanish fortress, Castillo de San Marcos, on your orientation tour. Then drive to magical Orlando for a late afternoon arrival. (CB)

Your vacation ends this morning. You may choose to extend your vacation with extra nights to explore this city and all of its attractions further.

Fantastic Journey 1 , NSW, Australia, Sep 2024
We were absolutely happy with the bus journey, the tour leader and bus driver, the atmosphere in the bus with all the passengers eager to help and converse and the venues and accommodation It exceeded our expectations.
Southern Charms tour   2 , New Zealand, Sep 2023
Had a blast. The guide and driver were great. The people on the coach were a great mix of ages and nationalities. The cost was great 👍. Accommodation was better than we expected for the price of the tour.
Well organised holiday 3 , SA, Australia, May 2019
Great holiday. Hotels were very good quality although some were in suburbs and not in city centre. Good value for money with inclusions taking us to some very nice attractions. Good choice of optional extras. Repeat customer six times now and would recommend Cosmos and Global Journeys to family and friends.
Great overview of Southern tastes and sounds 4 , QLD, Australia, Sep 2018
Cosmos didn't fail us with this itinerary - all the places we wanted to visit plus more. The hotels were, on the whole, okay. The tour director and driver were excellent (2 of the best). Highlights were New Orleans, visit to Graceland and Grand Ole Opry. It was unfortunate that the tour only had one night in Memphis so we didn't get to experience a read more lot. We really enjoyed the stay in Savannah - what a beautiful city - so much to see and do. Optional excursions were a bit overpriced for what was included, especially the Natchez river cruise and dinner in New Orleans. Our booking experience with Global Journeys was excellent and highly recommend Hannah; we will definitely be back for future travel needs.
Memorable tour through the Old South & Florida 5 , VIC, Australia, Sep 2018
This was the first time we did a tour with Cosmos. Knowing that Cosmos offers budget tours, we did not expect much. But we found that Cosmos exceeded our expectation. The accommodation was very good as most of the hotels are four stars and close to the tourist attractions. We did not mind at all that breakfast was not included most of the time, in fact, read more it gave us freedom to choose our breakfast, such as beignets from Café du Monde. Delicious!!

We also found that the inclusive 2-day trolley ride and the 2-hour private ride in Savannah was excellent. This was beyond our expectation. The 2-hour private ride gave us ideas of what to see & do the following day. The Tour Director, Kristine, was very fun & knowledgeable. She made the tour a memorable experience! She managed to get 'Elvis Presley' on board! Bravo Kris!! You did an amazing job and are one of the best tour directors we have toured with. This tour is highly recommended to be included in your bucket list!! Highlights of the tour: New Orleans & Savannah! They are so beautiful!
Dreamin’ of Florida 3 , NSW, Australia, Oct 2017
We had 13 great days on The Old South with 10 days Florida Discovery extension touring the States on a comfortable coach where everything was taken care of for us. No worries; no hassles. Food and accommodations were great. We will definitely use Global Journeys again. Highly recommend.
Loved parts of the trip 8 , NSW, Australia, Sep 2016
I loved parts of this trip New Orleans was wonderful a highlight, the hotel was super close to everything, comfortable. I'm not really sure why we needed to stay in Natchez? Memphis - great place the accommodation was a bit far from Beale St but walkable. Nashville hotel was ok the Grand ole Opry was fabulous. The Atlanta accommodation was far from read more anything random place we had to eat in the hotel and really wasn't good . Sadly We had to bypass Savannah due to Hurricane Matthew. Orlando hotel was nice but again really hard pressed to find anything to do around the hotel.
Loved the Old South and Florida   4 , SA, Australia, Sep 2016
A trip full of history and music. Accommodation was excellent, not 5 star but clean and very comfortable - included a few breakfasts. The optional tours were great value and very enjoyable. Highlights were New Orleans and the swamp and plantation homes tour. Memphis and Graceland, Nashville and the country music Hall of Fame. Savannah was such a beautiful read more and historic place, the only disappointing part of this trip was Orlando we found it to be just theme parks which is ok if that's what you want to do. We didn't realise that we would be leaving the tour guide here 3 days before the tour actually finished. Overall a great trip and value for money!
Americas South 7 , NSW, Australia, Aug 2016
Firstly let us say as usual the bookings Global Journeys did for us was excellent and trouble free, which is what we have become accustomed to. While the 13 day tour is sufficient in length we found the beginning in New Orleans disappointing as aside from a city tour no other tours were included. There were optional tours but as a group our tour guide read more Brenda left us to our own devices. Which can be off putting for people. Same with Orlando - we had 2 days there with little involvement from tour guide. Along our journey we ventured into Chattanooga only to find out everything was shut which was very disappointing, also numerous occasions wrong information was given. Overall we found the trip pleasant but it would have been greatly enhanced with a more involved tour guide.
Easy trip through the South. 6 , QLD, Australia, Jun 2016
Very busy trip which means you see and do a lot of interesting things. Loved the Southern hospitality and the optional excursions. Savanna and New Orleans were the highlights.
