Itinerary

Welcome to the “Big Apple!” Your Tour Director is on hand from 3pm-6:00 p.m. this afternoon to answer any questions.

Once you get settled, perhaps head out and start exploring the ‘city that never sleeps' with its world-famous shopping and restaurants that represent nearly one hundred different national cuisines.

This morning, enjoy an included sightseeing tour with a local guide. You will see Broadway, the Empire State Building, Rockefeller Center, Wall Street, the 9/11 Memorial, and more. This afternoon, head for Boston—the “Cradle of American Liberty.”

On your morning guided tour of Boston, visit the historic landmarks that have played an important part in the history of the United States. See Faneuil Hall, the Old North Church (where Paul Revere was signaled for the departure of British troops to Lexington), the Freedom Trail, and Boston Common. The afternoon is free to explore on your own. Get a true taste of Italian Cuisine this evening at an optional dinner in Boston's North End, also known as Little Italy. (B)

Journey through New Hampshire and on to the scenic White Mountains. Continue to the Canadian border, where you'll notice a change in language and tradition as you enter the French-Canadian province of Québec and historic Québec City on the banks of the St. Lawrence River. (B)

This morning, join your traveling companions on a unique optional excursion to the Érablière le Chemin du Roy Sugar Shack. Visitors to the sugar cabin will enjoy a typical Québec breakfast, along with a guided visit and presentation to explain the process of maple extraction.

Afterward, return to Québec City for a guided tour of Canada's only walled city, crowned by the turrets of Château Frontenac. Until the British victory of 1759, Old Québec was the center of New France; today, it is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Within the walls reside the Place d'Armes, Laval Seminary, the star-plan Citadelle with grand vistas from its bastions, and ancient Place Royale. See the Old-World houses crowding narrow streets in Lower Town and the historic Plains of Abraham, where General Wolfe stormed the slopes.

The afternoon is at leisure. Perhaps join an optional guided tour of the iconic Chateau Frontenac to learn more about the famous people and historical events that have been a part of this majestic landmark hotel. (CB)

Today, drive to cosmopolitan Montréal, one of Canada's largest cities and home of Expo ‘67 and the 1976 Summer Olympics. Included guided sightseeing includes St. Joseph's Oratory, the lookout atop Mount Royal, once-walled Old Montréal, Notre Dame Church, the Seminary of St. Sulpice (built by the first missionary settlers), and modern Montréal. (CB)

Drive west to Ottawa, Canada's beautiful capital. Guided city sightseeing includes Parliament Hill with its Gothic buildings, the Canadian Mint, the Rideau Canal, the National Gallery of Canada, and stately residences and embassies. With a free afternoon, you could visit ByWard Market with its artisan shops and culinary treats. Consider an optional excursion to the Canadian Museum of History, Canada's oldest and most popular museums for its exceptional exhibitions and extraordinary views of Parliament Hill across the Ottawa River.

Trace the Rideau Canal south to the amazing Thousand Islands National Park. Then enjoy a scenic cruise around the many wooded islands along the St. Lawrence River sprinkled with beautifully simple to opulent summer homes.

Setting Toronto's exciting architectural tone are City Hall; the downtown banking district; Roger's Center; and stunning CN Tower, more than a third of a mile high. See all this and more on your morning city sightseeing tour. Then, spend the rest of the day exploring city sights such as Harbourfront, Ontario Place, and Chinatown on your own or get a view of Toronto from Lake Ontario on a scenic Harbour Cruise. This evening, consider an optional dinner atop the CN Tower where, with clear skies, you can see for miles!

Travel south along the lakeshore and through the rich farmlands and vineyards of Ontario to Niagara Falls. Stop at Table Rock and hear the raging waters. Then, board your Niagara Falls sightseeing cruise for amazing close-ups at the base of the thundering falls and an experience you won't soon forget! Then reach for the sky on an optional flightseeing tour aboard a helicopter for breathtaking views high above the falls.

Please Note: Operation of the Niagara Falls sightseeing cruise is subject to favorable weather and/or river conditions. Favorable conditions usually exist from May to October. When weather is unfavorable, a visit to Journey Behind the Falls will be substituted.

Leave Canada and head southeast through the Appalachian Mountains and along a portion of the Susquehanna River into Pennsylvania Dutch farm country. Tonight, join the optional excursion and experience authentic Pennsylvania Dutch cooking at an Amish Homestead. After dinner, have time to ask questions to learn more about the Amish way of life.

This morning, stop at the Amish Farm & House where a Local Guide explains the faith, culture, and way of life of these people for whom tradition forbids the use of electricity or telephones in the home. On to Washington DC for an afternoon arrival. Consider an optional evening dinner and Monuments by Night Illumination tour that shines a new light on this historic capital.

The nation's capital is a sightseeing treasure trove. Your half-day tour with a Local Guide visits the Lincoln Memorial, Washington Monument, and has photo stops at Capitol Hill, the White House, and other well-known sights. The remainder of the day is free. Perhaps visit the National Museum of American History to see Dorothy's ruby slippers from the Wizard of Oz or the National Museum of Natural History to see dinosaur bones and the Hope Diamond! Your Tour Director will also have suggestions for exploring this historical and culturally rich city. (B)

Travel north this morning to Philadelphia. Visit Independence National Historical Park, home of the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall, where the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution were signed. Have time to explore these and other places in what is referred to as “America's Most Historic Square Mile” on your own. (B)

This morning, enjoy additional sightseeing in the “City of Brotherly Love” before saying goodbye to your Tour Director and leaving for New York City. Check into the New Yorker, a Wyndham Hotel, for the next two nights. Your Local Host will be available for any questions you may have and can offer suggestions for sightseeing, shopping, and dining.

The “Big Apple” beckons. New York has it all, from Broadway shows to museums, shopping, and great restaurants.

Your vacation ends this morning.

Best way to see most of the Eastern USA and Canada! 1 , NSW, Australia, Sep 2023
The highlight of this tour for us is Niagara Falls where you will ride a boat to the falls nearly in front of it. Cosmos delivered what it says on the itinerary and the quality of the hotels is pretty good, With the exception of no breakfast on almost all days. The hotel rooms are much larger than in Europe and you will see a lot of places in 15 days. read more We loved Canada with its many beautiful places especially Ottawa and also enjoyed the eastern side of the USA which is historical and there's much more to see especially New York City and Washington DC where there are lots of museums that are free. Be sure to watch a Broadway show in NY for the experience as you will see Times Square at night and it's amazing! We had one of the best times of our lives and this tour made it happen!!!
Well paced tour with a great guide   2 , QLD, Australia, May 2019
Really enjoyed this coach tour. Mark Quido was a great tour guide, enthusiastic, good fun and very professional. I definitely got to experience more of the local attractions than if was touring on my own. Hotel rooms were spacious and well appointed. Tour was well paced and we really enjoyed the 2 night stopovers. It was so nice to meet other travellers and make new friends!!
USA and Canada 1 , NSW, Australia, May 2019
Good people and good tour and the guide Matt was genuine and generous but kept mentioning tips too much and my bags were misplaced three times on the way to my room?
Interesting Tour!   8 , WA, Australia, Sep 2017
This was the 3rd tour we did (myself, my husband, and another couple). We chose this tour by Cosmos for the free time it allowed, the cost and the variety of different places covered over 17 days (we included the 2 day extension in New York). We had already done the Canadian Rockies and Alaskan cruise, and the Canadian Maritimes, so we needed finish read more our Canada trip with their eastern cities and of course New York.

Brian, our tour director, was friendly and helpful, though somewhat unorganised and later found out he had only just returned to touring after a few years. Most of those on tour were Australians and NZ'ers, and one US couple - therefore much of the baseball stats and players mentioned by Brian were out of our comprehension! Tour was quite hectic, but although we are not big fans of city touring, each city we visited was unique and we had some excellent local guides who were very passionate about their city, so it wasn't hard to see it through their eyes and warm to the places.

Highlights were seeing Niagara Falls at night lit up with laser coloured lighting; the Amish were very interesting to visit; dinner up the CN tower in Toronto; loved Quebec city (you really thought you were in France) and we did get to see some Fall colours beginning. Weather was 100 degrees above the average and we had quite a few really hot and humid days, but also some beautiful warm balmy evenings. We enjoyed our optional excursions and really appreciated the extra two nights in New York before heading the long trek home to Perth, WA. Highly recommended and we met some really lovely fellow travellers!
We both enjoyed the tour 4 , NSW, Australia, Sep 2015
This tour was great, covering several cities on the Eastern side of the US and Canada with a fun and caring Tour Director. The booking and handling was also very efficient. We both enjoyed the tour and will definitely book our next holiday with Global Journeys. Thank you again to Georgie (booking and handling) and Timothy Bridges (Tour Director) for read more the stress free and fun tour.
Overall a very satisfying experience 2 , QLD, Australia, Aug 2015
A very enjoyable journey with plenty of attractions and plenty of spare time to further explore or to rest if necessary. As a single traveler, I found the single supplement and benefits very pleasing. Overall a very satisfying experience.
Great value for money 6 , Australia, Sep 2014
We loved our holiday and thought it was great value for money. Only one hotel wasn't up to a suitable standard and this was reflected on our feedback sheet to our tour guide. A special mention for our tour guide Timothy Bridges. It was Timothy's first 'adult' tour and he was fantastic. He worked very hard to make sure we were all looked after, staying read more in the hotel foyer for at least half an hour after our arrival each night in case we had questions etc. We also had someone who was (temporarily) in a wheelchair and then crutches and he looked after her extremely well. Even booking a medical appointment for her in Canada. We also had some participants who were not very mobile and he was extremely patient and understanding. I have been traveling for about 40 years and whilst not all my OS trips were with a group I have been on enough to know that Timothy is one of the excellent ones. Also our driver, who was very experienced, was excellent. We were very well looked after on this tour and I would travel with Cosmos again.
Everything was great 1 , Australia, May 2014
Everything was great. The itinerary, our tour director Daryl was fantastic, our coach driver Marty and also the majority of the local guides (a couple we didn't think were up to par). The hotels were good and all except one had a supermarket quite close by. We had plenty of free time to explore. The only day that we thought was a pain (no fault of anyone's) read more was the Thursday we arrived in Washington - it was raining and there were coaches everywhere - it took Marty 3/4 hour to find somewhere to drop us off. It made going to the museums etc hard work. Too many people. The optional extras were great (we didn't do the helicopter over Niagara and I didn't go to the Sugar Shack breakfast). The only disappointing bit for us was that the Skyline hotel in New York didn't have any tea or coffee making facilities, the rest did although only about 2 included a tea bag in the pack (we ended up buying tea bags & milk and a couple from the UK had a travel jug which we borrowed) and they didn't all have fridges in rooms. There were only 33 of us, and we have made great friends- some in the UK and also Australia. For our first coach trip ever I think we were spoilt and its set a benchmark for further ones. We will definitely consider doing more. Next year we are back to the UK. But we will certainly start looking again towards the end of 2015. Thank you for all your help.
Found it extremely difficult in New York to find Gluten Free food 1 , Australia, Oct 2012
We had a good time, I (Katelyn) found it extremely difficult in New York to find Gluten Free food as no one knew what it was and requested on the trip that a fridge be put in our room so that I could buy a few things to put in it since I struggled so much. Frank tried his best to accommodate this. Apart from that we had a good time.
Tour director could have been a bit more energetic 1 , Australia, Aug 2011
The tour covered the main places of interest with plenty of free time to do your own thing. The Tour Director was pretty laid back and I thought could have been a bit more energetic in getting the group to interact with each other, for example, there was no get together to introduce everyone to each other, there was no group photo, there was no group read more dinner at the conclusion of the tour. However, having said that, there was also no pressure to do all the optional extras (on previous tours I have done there has been a lot of pressure to do all the optional extras which can be quite tiring). Some of the motels we stayed at were a bit dated (70's decor) but reasonably comfortable. On the whole, I enjoyed the tour (especially not being pressured to do more than I wanted to) and would probably go with this tour company again. My dealings with Global Journeys (Georgie) was easy, pleasant and efficient for which I would like to thank you.
