An early morning takes you to Florence where an extensive walking tour showcases the beautiful “Cradle of the Renaissance.” Join a local Florentine guide and make your way through the city on foot. At the Piazza del Duomo, see the ornate façade of the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore and the gilded bronze doors of the Baptistery dedicated to St. John. Take in views of the Piazza della Signoria and Santa Croce Square before enjoying the remainder of your time in Florence to explore this unparalleled city as you choose. (B/D)
Today, it's your choice! Learn more about Montecatini's history during a half-day guided walking tour and visit to the historic Tettuccio Spa, known for the health benefits in its mineral waters -OR- journey to Siena on a full day excursion and embark on a walking tour through its narrow Gothic streets, getting to know the local lifestyle in a contrada (neighborhood) whose community is centered around the colorful Palio horse race. Excursions were excellent with knowledgeable local guides but we were read more often left with too much free time - not enough to see major sites like the Uffizi Museum in Florence, and not enough information to visit smaller attractions. (We're not into shopping and don't buy souvenirs.)
The tour director, Sergio, was fantastic. He dealt with anything thrown at him with professionalism. He could also tell very funny stories. I think we will stick with Australian companies in the future.
