Interesting cities and beautiful Scandinavian scenery 7 Focus on Scandinavia , NSW, Australia, May 2018
The tour left on 12 May and we were blessed with beautiful sunny and warm weather throughout. The cities were interesting and some days perfect picture postcard scenery. I often travel with Cosmos and usually do all the optional extras and I enjoyed all the options on this trip. To keep the costs down the hotels in Copenhagen and Stockholm are out of read more town but close to public transport links to the city if you want to spend extra time there and your guide or the hotels can give you details.
Wonderful trip through the Canadian Rockies & Alaska   8 The Canadian Rockies with Alaska Cruise , QLD, Australia, May 2018
We had a great tour director in Alma. She had so much enthusiasm for her country and the wildlife and was totally efficient in ensuring our accommodation was always ready for us after a day of travelling. We stayed in quality motels and were shown most of the highlights in this part of the world. The mountains covered with snow took our breath away read more - very spectacular.

One of the down spots to the trip was arriving via Air Canada at 7am and not being able to get our hotel room until 3pm after a 14 hour trip. The Holland/America cruise ship Volendam for our trip to Alaska was excellent but there were no Cosmos reps on board. Felt a bit out of it with all the Scenic, APT etc people who all had there own tour director. We chose our own excursions on line before we left and all were great, especially in Skagway which was the highlight of our trip. Cosmos really looked after us on the bus tour in Canada.
Cosmos Niagara Tour 3 New York City, Niagara Falls & Washington DC , QLD, Australia, May 2018
Overall a good tour. A couple of long days on the bus but that goes with the territory. Some accommodation was below what we expected.
Disappointed   33 The Best of Spain & Portugal , VIC, Australia, May 2018
The Cosmos “best of Spain & Portugal” is a fast paced budget tour. It was a good way to cover off the highlights of both countries however, there are fairly significant compromises made to do so. Most hotels were located quite a distance from the city or town centres which were very inconvenient for seeing the places we were staying at and meant extra read more costs in taxi/transport fares.

The tour group were almost all retirees aged 65 plus. This meant that walking tours were slow going. Something to keep in mind for younger travellers. All the local experts we had on our walking/city tours and the bus driver were fantastic. However, the tour director could have been more informative of the towns we were visiting by giving us more detailed and accurate information, providing recommendations on restaurants and memorable or unique experiences we could have. I was also concerned by the fact that the tour director wrote our names on the gratuities envelope we gave her at the end of the tour.

I enjoyed all the stops at the towns in Spain and Portugal but found we had to choose between seeing the town and having a relaxing lunch. There wasn’t time to do both - only 1.5-2 hours at each town we visited. My biggest disappointment of the tour was that the included visit to Alhambra did not in fact include seeing the Palaces which are the main part of Alhambra. We were simply taken around the Alhambra grounds and gardens and I felt this was highly misleading of Cosmos to claim this as an included visit. I would have preferred to pay to experience Alhambra the way it should be.

The towns of Cordoba and Seville were lovely with a good amount of free time. The optional Flamenco show in Seville was also amazing. In Lisbon, the guided tour was mostly on the bus with two small photo stops at Belem Tower and another monument. The optional dinner and Fado show was average. For almost $90 (57 euro) whilst the music was beautiful the dinner was average - vegetable soup, cod, and only a slice of pineapple for dessert. Not worth the money paid.

Also the optional excursion to Sintra meant that we had very little time to see Lisbon properly. And this brings me to the second biggest disappointment of the tour - the excursion to Cascais and Sintra. Sintra is a picturesque town but with only two hours in the town we did a guided tour of the medieval palace and had a small amount of free time. We were not taken to Pena Palace which is supposed to be the most beautiful palace in Portugal and the one on all the postcards for Sintra. There is also a Forest in Sintra which has the ruins of a Moorish castle, something the tour guide did not explain at all. We had stopped at Cascais for lunch but with very little to see and do here, this time could have been better spent at Sintra.

In Porto, the guided walk and included Porto tastings was great. I skipped the optional tour to Guimareas to spend more time in Porto and I’m glad I did. Porto is a beautiful little town. The optional river cruise and dinner were also exceptional and a definite highlight of the tour. Overall, I will not choose Cosmos again. I have done five budget coach tours before with other companies and this was disappointing in comparison.
Wonderful trip New York, Niagra Falls and Washington DC 4 New York City, Niagara Falls & Washington DC with Extended Stay in New York City , TAS, Australia, May 2018
It was a great time of year to travel as all the trees were bursting out in their new foliage, especially in Philadelphia where we took an optional carriage ride through the streets. What a wonderful slow pace to marvel at all the old buildings and our guide had been doing this excursion for 30 years so there was nothing she did not know about Philly. read more

The group all got along very well and we had a wonderful time together. We covered a lot in the short time we had, although another day in both Philadelphia and Washington DC would have been great, as we could've spent much more time in the museums in Washington DC.

Altogether a wonderful tour and we would book with Cosmos again, although we would have like to have fridges in our hotel rooms as well as tea/coffee making facilities.
Magnificent scenic trip in Switzerland by train 16 Scenic Switzerland by Train , VIC, Australia, May 2018
I had a magnificent trip around Switzerland by train. We viewed fantastic snow capped mountains with lovely relaxing villages among the mountains and lakes. The trains we went on were comfortable and relaxing. We had many highlights but the one that stands out for me was the day we went up to Gornergrat on the highest rack railway in Europe to view read more the majestic MATTERHORN. It was a beautiful warm sunny clear day about 23 degrees. The MATTERHORN stood out clear and majestic in all its glory.

The town of Zermatt was another of my favourites. The museum was very interesting and the Mountaineers Cemetery was very profound with many mountaineers in their 20's. One grave had written on it "We Chose To Climb". You could feel the love they had for the Mountain. We enjoyed the famous towns of Zurich, Lucerne, Interlaken, Lausanne, Montreux, St.Moritz, and Tirano.

The accommodation was very good and the fellow travellers were very friendly and a good mix. Booking online was a first for me and was easy and the Global Journey people were friendly and helpful and would recommend dealing with Global Journeys again. Thanks Global and Cosmos for a wonderful adventure!!!!!
Great Value for Money and Worry Free   10 The Canadian Rockies , New Zealand, May 2018
The tour was great value for money. It included all accommodation costs and transport during the tour, including transfers to optional excursions. Our bags were handled to and from the coach which made the whole experience easy. We traveled during spring and we had expected to see the beautiful blue lakes. We were too early in the season to see these read more as they were still frozen, however this still made the scenery spectacular and the bonus was that there weren't any queues anywhere. We will be returning and completing the tour in autumn in a few years so that we see everything in a different season. It was fabulous.
Picturesque exceeded our expectations. 8 The British Isles in Depth , NSW, Australia, May 2018
The tour covered a pretty extensive area & exceeded our expectations. We thoroughly enjoyed it, although there where parts I could have lived without. We had a small group of 24 and very friendly bunch. Tour director, Peter, was excellent. Hats off to the drivers, they were skillful. This was our 3rd tour with Cosmos tours and we will be going on the read more fourth and fifth soon...

The accommodation with this trip was great. Except for our 2nd stay at Kensington high street, I'm not sure what happened but in the 3 weeks we were on the tour the hotel was off its game. The included meals were quite good with the exception of Jury's inn Plymouth, I chose to eat dinner off-site, sorry but it was bad but I would not hesitate to recommend this tour to anyone.
Superbly paced and planned trip 5 , VIC, Australia, May 2018
After having a tour last year that at times felt like we were being rushed to the point of being out of breath, I worried that this trip would be the same. Not what you want when you are surrounded by such natural beauty.

I must give an enormous shout out first to our tour guide Alma! She was absolutely exceptional in every way! First of all she read more is a genuinely warm and generous woman. She was full of delight and humour that made all her commentary on the coach a sheer joy to listen to! Her professionalism and skill was always on full display. When small problems arose that were out of her control like the train running late and excursions cancelled due to weather she sprung into action and arranged outings for us. She made it her mission that we got the most out of every hour. I cannot praise her highly enough! Our bus driver Nelson was great and a lot of fun to interact with! We had a great bunch of people on the trip who made it such a pleasurable experience!

What can you say about Banff, other than absolutely stunning and breathtaking! So much beauty and the pace in which we travelled allowed us to feel relaxed and take it all in. Jasper was great as well. To walk down the street and have 20 Elk walking casually a few feet away from you was magical. The excursions were great, the highlight arranged by Alma was a night time outing to see wildlife, something I will always treasure.

I loved the train ride and the fact that it was late turned into an advantage as it was light and we got to see more of the stunning scenery. A great joy and stroke of luck was seeing a black bear casually standing by the tracks! I had worried before booking if this itinerary was special enough. Well it surpassed my expectations and I loved every day we spent travelling!
Superb Scenery 11 The Canadian Rockies , NSW, Australia, Apr 2018
This was an excellent tour with superb scenery throughtout the whole time. Two night stays in all the resorts was appreciated. Our tour guide Sharon was very good. She was very knowledgeable and helpful and friendly and added to the trip immensely. Only downside was that no meals were provided at all which added to the cost. Even breakfast each day read more would have been better. But overall you won’t be disappointed.
An Amazing Time 2 Canadian Masterpiece with Rocky Mountaineer & Alaska Cruise , NSW, Australia, Apr 2018
We had an amazing time! We were very happy with all the hotels, they were clean and comfortable and very well located in each town.

Thank you Juliet for helping me with so many questions I had when booking this holiday. You were so very patient, knowledgeable and very helpful. It made booking this first overseas holiday of ours so stress free.
North American holiday   17 Trans-American Adventure , VIC, Australia, Apr 2018
Overall the trip was amazing. I cannot fault the work of Todd, our tour director, he was very organised, friendly and well informed. It was not his fault that our final dinner at the Italian restaurant was a disaster - the food and service were terrible, and I paid $20 US for a third of a glass of wine (chianti) - I was upset as were several others read more who paid for beverages. The trip was so good up till then. I think that Todd was embarrassed and he'll not go back there again, I'm sure.

Not providing breakfast is a bummer. I am diabetic and need to have breakfast every day. 5 brekkies were included, but as we paid so much money for the trip, Cosmos can do much better in this regard I feel... hence my overall rating of Very Good, and not Excellent. Our group of 33 gelled together well and I have made some life-long friends.
A literally fulfilling pilgrimage tour - Fatima, Lourdes and the Shrines of Spain 9 Fatima, Lourdes & Shrines of Spain , VIC, Australia, Apr 2018
Highlights for me: Seeing Fatima, Lourdes and a chance meeting with the niece of Sr Lucia of Fatima.
The tour itself covered a lot and I did and saw more than I could have expected (the itinerary did not leave a lot of alone time).

Between the optional excursions, some long distance travelling days (time to catch up with sleep on the bus), local read more included tours, daily masses, nightly processions at Fatima and Lourdes, meals with the group, pretty much every day was full on. However, you could choose to skip some of the activities (eg. optional excursions) if you wanted to but why would you!

I attended 3 out of the 4 optional excursions and they did not disappoint - they are a must do whilst in that region of the world. If you come for a pilgrimage, then this tour would suit you. Just note that some of the paths of the places visited are uneven and you must be able to climb up and down steps, otherwise you're just going to miss out on seeing some of the good stuff - wear comfortable shoes. Also, expect a lot of walking at certain places.

Suggestion: If you want to see more of Lisbon and Barcelona, take extra days before/end of the tour.
I personally would have liked more time in Lourdes because there were many things to see and do.

We were fortunate enough to have a priest travelling with us on the tour (unplanned but greatly appreciated) because he provided the private English-spoken masses at some beautiful, rustic old churches along the tour and in some of the quaintest chapels around. That's why we were privileged to be able to have more than the scheduled masses on the tour. The other masses were public ones and usually in one or more foreign languages.

Our tour director, Ines, worked hard on organising a lot of these private masses throughout the tour (as well as other things) and was very knowledgeable of the history of the regions we visited. Our driver, Sandro, was expert and skilled at manoeuvering our large coach through some of the region's narrowest and smallest streets and laneways as well as providing a safe journey throughout the tour - so thanks to them both for their hard work!

The local guides (including those on optional excursions) were also very good to excellent quality speakers and knowledgeable about their subject matter. A special mention to Julia (in Lisbon) and Sonia (in Tomar) for their enthusiasm and they kept good pace.

The accommodation throughout the tour was mixed but generally good. Fatima hotel - great location. Burgos hotel - good location but I had a tiny, unbearably hot room which I could not control. Santiago de Compostela hotel - outside the main town centre but the most luxurious-looking hotel of the lot.

Lisbon and Barcelona hotels - located away from the main downtown areas (which I personally preferred because they were quieter and closer to the airports for the start/end of the tour). Also, Hotel Porta Fira (Barcelona) had a great breakfast selection.

Lourdes hotel (Quality Hotel Christina) - sadly, the worst accommodation of the tour due to: its bad location (about 850m walking distance one way to the sanctuary, according to Google Maps); a good brisk 10 - 15 minute walking pace (for an able-bodied person). As I had visited the Lourdes sanctuary many times throughout the day and night, the location was not ideal (especially when walking in the rain). The food served at this hotel was also average and minimal (at breakfast). This hotel was also very crowded with tour groups and pilgrimages (some of them young, excited, screaming children/teenagers) which made it difficult to get a lift to our rooms on the top floor. But having said that, I guess being on a pilgrimage tour means that you sometimes need to contend with being a little less comfortable.

The tour I took started on 24 Apr in Lisbon and the weather there was good at the time but as you get up in the mountains, along the Pyrenees (think Lourdes), then expect it to be cold, windy, rainy, sometimes hail and snow. As we went back down to Barcelona, the weather was a bit warmer but still some patchy showers.

As for Global Journeys handling of my booking, there was initially a bit of a mix up with the premature closing of my booking quote but when Georgie returned to work to handle it, there weren't any problems. It was pretty much straightforward from then on.

Overall, a very fulfilling pilgrimage tour. I managed to see and do everything that I wanted to (and then some). And made a lot of friends along the way.
Good Tour 5 Treasures of the Balkans & Transylvania , SA, Australia, Apr 2018
This tour gave me a good insight into each country. Our Bulgarian national guide was wonderful. Being a professor of ancient history and linguistics makes her commentary flow out effortlessly; this makes listening to her not only interesting but relaxing.

Novotel Centrum Hotel in Budapest and Sheraton Hotel in Bucharest are the best across-the-board. read more The only hotel that let us down was Yantra Hotel in Bulgaria. The room's non-adjustable air conditioner is more like a fan blowing out weak air in a very hot room during a hot day! Most uncomfortable night! If the air conditioner is replaced with a fully functioning one, I would give this hotel a "thumbs-up".

Our Tour Director, Maya, and our driver, Ady, were friendly and helpful. Ady is also a safe driver. Thanks to Jemma for organizing my travel documents and delivered to me in a timely manner.
Western Wonders 2 Western Wonders , NSW, Australia, Apr 2018
A very enjoyable trip and appreciated the assistance from Jemma of Global Journeys. Highly recommend their services. Randy was our tour guide for the whole journey and his services were marvellous. He is an experienced, knowledgeable and attention to details type of person. This is the first time we engaged on a Cosmos tour and certainly won’t be the last.
Wonderful holiday 2 , New Zealand, Apr 2018
It was a tour filled with endless attractions. Items such as the acrobatics show was out of this world. Dances that we saw were fantastic. All in all we had a jolly good time. Tour Director Charles was a friendly, helpful, caring and knowledgeable person who provided a professional service throughout the tour.

The only improvement that is needed is read more to find a way of minimising the need for tour participants to carry heavy (main) luggage over long distances at the airports and railway stations - even through escalators. In fact a suitcase fell on me while on the escalator and I fell down on the person behind me. Luckily he was strong enough to catch me thereby preventing any injury. This is important because the majority of participants are senior citizens. Anyway it was a fantastic tour that we would recommend to anyone.
Amazing Peru! 1 Mysteries of the Inca Empire with Peru's Amazon, Arequipa & Colca Canyon , WA, Australia, Apr 2018
This was an amazing holiday and we would definitely recommend it for first time visitors to South America. Starting with the Tambopata Eco Lodge, what an amazing experience. Only 6 of us and our lovely guide spent 3 days of fun and adventure together. Then back to Lima to begin the next part of the tour, 17 people in total.

Accommodation was way read more better than we were expecting, always walking distance to everything, full size coach so heaps of room, great local guides and excellent included meals. Our guide did all the boarding passes and collection of luggage at the airports, there were a few flights and the airports are a bit chaotic but all went smoothly.

We did the Arequipa extension and were the only ones so we had our own driver and guide with an extremely comfortable Mercedes van to travel in. So glad we added this on, it was our favourite part of the trip but beware as altitude may be a problem for some as you are quite high here. Peru is absolutely stunning, from The Amazon to the mountains -gorgeous!

The only thing we’d say about the entire trip is that a decent level of fitness is required to get the most out of everything including the Amazon lodge adventure. We are in our mid 50’s and reasonably fit but there was definitely some huffing and puffing.

We have travelled many places and quite often independently but for a no hassle, stress free holiday, this organised tour is excellent value and we would definitely recommend. We have used Global Journeys a few times now and everything has always been amazing. Always efficient with quotes and information. We will definitely use them again if booking tours. Thanks Yvonne!
Grand Tour of Switzerland 3 Grand Tour of Switzerland , QLD, Australia, Apr 2018
Our Cosmos tour through Switzerland was beautiful and really allowed for a relaxed way to see the country. The age group was much older than us which we were unaware of beforehand but that didn't change us having a great time and falling in love with Switzerland. Booking through Global Journeys made it an easy and hassle free process.
10 Days Seven Countries 9 Seven Countries, Venice & Paris , New Zealand, Apr 2018
Fantastic tour through major parts of Europe. Excellent introduction if you have not had a chance to do one of these tours. Our tour guide (Sonia) was very well versed in every aspect of the tour. Her local knowledge, sense of humour and pace made it a well rewarded trip.

We recommend extra days in London prior to the start of the tour and after read more the tour , in Paris, as both cities have alot to offer. The coach was brand new, with good facilities on board. We had a very good driver, Guillermo who was always on time and ahead of schedule. We can now look forward to another tour.

Our thanks to Leanne (Global Journeys) for organising this tour.
Wonderful Trip 10 Spain, Portugal & Morocco , SA, Australia, Apr 2018
I thoroughly enjoyed this tour. So much to see and explore in Spain. Most of the iconic and UNESCO World Heritage Sites were covered. Morocco stands out for me especially Medina of Fez; it is incredible! Market selling whole camel head was on display. Photos taken at the Tannery showing the dyeing process of leather were like out of the National Geographic! read more Our Tour Director, John Shaw, has a wealth of knowledge on all these three countries. He went beyond and above his duties to keep us entertained. He is approachable and helpful. Khalid, our driver kept us safe with his attentive driving. Jemma was great in having my travel documents delivered to me in a timely manner.
