If there was one trip to do in a lifetime this was it. Magnificent scenery great people in Canada. Each day got better and better, just when we though that what we saw could not get any better they managed to blow the mind the next day and so it went. The cruise should be taken at end of the touring as we did as its quite exhausting living out of a read more suitcase with that early bag pull each day, the cruise allows you to sit back and relax a bit more. Thanks for your help with this great trip.
Whole trip was so well organised in every detail 1
David (Max) & Michelle Russo, QLD, Australia, Aug 2015
We were impressed with how smoothly everything flowed, through all 3 countries, from the time we flew in until the time we flew out a month later. The APT staff were all friendly and very efficient, the restaurants all excellent, the accommodation first class, and the excursions well selected and always interesting. We felt that we saw all major sights. read more The 3 cruises met all our expectations and the scenery was amazing. We both felt we learned so much, as well as thoroughly enjoying every day. Not forgetting the Shows in China - the Legend of Kung Fu, the Tang Dynasty show, and Era - all were spectacular. The whole trip was so well organised in every detail. We are very glad that we have already booked Magnificent Europe with APT for next year! Our Travel Agent, Yvonne Brooks, at Global Journeys was very efficient and did a great job. Any queries were promptly answered and she was always there if we needed extra information. Thanks, Yvonne. It was a wonderful holiday.
Overall it was a great trip. Excursions cancelled in Budapest because of the National holiday on the first and second day of the cruise. APT did not inform us about it and kept advertising the twilight cruise on the first day - it is a bit disappointing as we had 3 days before the cruise started we could done the twilight cruise and the Buda castle read more excursion before the start of the cruise. The internet on the the Amareina was very bad - our cabin was at the back of the ship so no internet in the cabin. You have to go to the reception area or the top deck to have access to the internet. The staff were wonderful excellent services, the cabin was very nice but we couldn't use the balcony as when the ship dock usually other ship are docked one feet from your balcony. If you want to book a cabin I think you would be better of with the cabin with the French balcony usually most of the day you are out. The Excursions were great if not cancelled by APT.
What a fabulous experience! Every day was filled with interest and very special memories. The scenery was breathtaking and the guides shared a wealth of information while giving us a sense of life in each city and village as we explored them. The ship was a floating 5-star hotel! Our room was luxurious and scrupulously clean. We were treated as respected read more guests and every request was cheerfully met. The tours and options were fantastic and there were many little extras that ensured we enjoyed the trip of a lifetime. Planning our journey was simple thanks to the support and organisation of Yvonne and the friendly staff at Global Journeys. We look forward to our next adventure!
Fabulous tour, beautiful cruise and fantastic scenery. The only criticism is the coach used in Spain was not as comfortable as other coaches we have been on. The itinerary was good although we could have easily skipped our diversion to Faro for lunch and spend more time in Lisbon or Porto which would be a little more relaxing with less time travelling. read more The cruise was the highlight and APT do it so well. We have no hesitation recommending this tour.
We enjoyed ourselves very much, but if we had paid full price, we would not think it value for money. Too much emphasis on food and drink. Not enough physical activity for us. The boat was very comfortable and the staff were uniformly enthusiastic and charming. Kristen, the Tour Director, was efficient, charming, quick thinking and caring. A very professional read more tour director. We missed out on the first three days cruising, because of low river in upper Danube. We were ferried by coach and stayed at 4 star hotels in Budapest and Vienna. So no complaints. Excursions were very good, informative and entertaining, and we were taken to very interesting places. A good introduction to river cruising, but would have appreciated more opportunities for walking and cycling.
Disappointed in alaskan land accommodation 3
Anne Deemer, NSW, Australia, Aug 2015
The ratings are covering the Canadian portion of the tour. I was very disappointed in the accommodation and service on the Alaskan land portion of the trip. I realise most of the lodges were in the wilderness regions but I felt they could at least update the accommodation, this was a 4 to 5 star level trip but I felt the Alaskan land portion was 3 star.
This trip had to be the highlight of our 2 month holiday, couldn't fault it. Even met a couple from around the corner that we didn't know previously, now very good friends. I continue to recommend it to everybody.
Fantastic experience 1
Lorraine, NSW, Australia, Jul 2015
We had a fantastic experience, met interesting people and made new friends. Be prepared for a lot of travelling between places. Our guide did a great job of looking after all of us and his knowledge of the country prompted some interesting conversations at meal times. Thank you to Emily (Global Journeys) for organising our trip.
This trip was brilliant and the scenery was truly amazing. This is my first time with APT and would definitely travel with them again, very professional and it was so nice that everything was included. Lovely hotels, lots of food, great tour guide and driver, they really added to the enjoyment of the trip.
Enjoyed some fantastic experiences 2
Carmel Burgess, VIC, Australia, Jun 2015
Our tour was outstanding. The attention to detail was excellent and our tour guide ensured that everything ran smoothly at all times. We enjoyed some fantastic experiences and excursions both in the tour inclusions and in the optional excursions.
The Mekong river cruise was amazing. The staff and food are fantastic. The fellow passengers were all lovely. I had the best time! Vietnam and Cambodia are such interesting countries to visit and the people are beautiful.
We were well looked after

Overall trip was very good. WiFi not that good throughout the trip. Hospitality staff were excellent. Cruise guide was excellent. Some suggestions for having and Aussie BBQ on deck? Or grill at some point along the way. Would have been nice to have a real steak. Aironditioning filters probably need cleaning, half the passengers were coughing. We enjoyed read more the trip very much, we were well looked after.
This was a thoroughly enjoyable holiday. The scenery was absolutely breathtaking. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and I learnt a lot about the history of the area as well as the landscape and flora. He was considerate of the group and I felt safe and unhurried at all times. Everything was well organised and ran smoothly. Although I consider this read more to be an expensive holiday, once was on tour i could see the reason for that as the Kimberley is such a long way from anywhere and distances travelled are extensive. It was money well-spent and I would recommend the tour.
Excellent in all respects 2
Ray Downey, NSW, Australia, Jun 2015
This tour was excellent in all respects. Our tour guide (Lisa May) was particularly good. My only criticism is that we would have preferred better flight options. Although I decided to take the offer - one person fly free plus taxes - in retrospect we would have liked different options.
Coach, coach driver and tour guide were excellent 2
Rodney Dawes, WA, Australia, Jun 2015
The APT handled part of the tour including the coach, coach driver, tour guide and organisation were excellent. The princess cruise component of the tour was also excellent, the land component handled by Princess however was left lacking. Accommodation was generally good, but staffing leadership was poor and food average. One of the coach drivers should read more not be in charge of a coach, his driving skills were abysmal.
Canada is a beautiful country, very much like the South Island NZ. The hotels were magnificent and attention to detail by APT was impeccable. I have travelled to many countries of the world, both rich and poor (75 to date and still counting!) but I found this holiday to be the most expensive one I have taken so far. To me , Alaska was a bit of a let read more down; perhaps I expected a whole lot more from it but it did not deliver except for Glacial Bay. One tour that I took from on board the ship particularly at Ketchekan (Fishermen's Bering sea excursion) was I think a con-artist's job. The giant crabs and the octopus had been caught months' beforehand and were in a cage on the sea bed only to be hauled out for the gullible tourists on the tour. Greenpeace would not have been happy with them! The huskies and Harley Davidson tours were the most memorable ones for me. Our fellow companions were pleasant people but a little on the old side with an old mind set. This tour would suit seniors and retirees but not young people.
This is what I wrote to my best friend about the trip. It sums it up. So many wonderful thoughts in my head. Sitting on a sundeck in a herb garden outside our room in Vancouver when we arrived with a beer. So tired yet so exhilarated by being in Canada we stayed up and partied all afternoon! The Rocky Mountaineer train trip....... bloody hell it was read more amazing mate. Forests, streams, lakes and mountains snow capped and water falls. All seen whilst being served the most amazing food and drinks you have ever eaten.. The dome carriage gold leaf is the only way to go. My most emotional moment was on blue river on the River Safari where we went on rafts out to the wilderness and just slowly stalked the lands edge looking for bears. We floated silently and waited and WOW ! Black bears eating and just clumsily strolling along the river bank not knowing we were there. I cried happy tears. You could hear the sticks crack on the bank as they walked along. WOW. LOL
My next one is glacier bay. It was the most eerie place ever... Small and large ice burgs in the water as the ship quietly drifted through and then you would here hissss. The water touching the the ice as we sailed passed. Then the most amazing thing I have ever seen was in front of me. A glacier !! OMG Its width and height was overwhelming and the colours in it. We slowly drifted passed it and I can honestly say I thought I was in another place other than this earth. No sound just every now and then massive cracks like thunder. We were so lucky as we heard the most amazing crack and then part of the glacier fell into the sea. I thought I was in a movie ! The friends I made and the things i saw mate. I hope this gives you an idea of my favourite moments.
Cheaper cruises ships are available but the added extra exclusive shore excursions with APT are well worth the additional cost. Loved every day of the tour. Some of the last minute deals were better value but one cannot plan trip times with this type of deal. Global Journeys loved your check list! Cheers as we both had the best time.

Magnificent Europe

As indicated by my ratings, my conclusive statement is 'Everything promised in the website and other publicity was delivered.' The downside was that someone had brought on board a respiratory infection of some sort so that on about day four, 75% of the pax were barking and coughing all over the place, us included. Nevertheless, Cheri the cruise director, read more herself afflicted, worked tirelessly so that, at every available opportunity a doctor was brought aboard. But the biggest bonus of the trip for me was the fabulous crew - a lovely collation of young men and women, mainly from eastern Europe (I think) who made the official United Nations look as shabby as it so often is. Thanks, too, for your courtesy and help.
