Your Namibian guide will offer thoughtful insight into Himba history, culture, and daily life as you travel through Damaraland. Hear about their intricate hairstyles, meaningful jewelry crafted from shells, iron, and copper, and their well-known ochre tinted skin, traditionally used for both beauty and protection in the desert climate. Arrive at your lodge in the afternoon with time to settle in, relax, and enjoy the surroundings before dinner.

Please Note: Today's drive from Swakopmund into Damaraland covers a considerable distance; however, the steadily changing landscapes help keep the journey engaging.

The Living Desert

After breakfast, visit the UNESCO World Heritage Site of Twyfelfontein, home to remarkable petroglyphs created more than 2,000 years ago by ancient hunter gatherers. These intricate rock engravings depict animals such as rhinos, elephants, giraffes, and zebras, offering a fascinating glimpse into early human expression.

Return to the lodge during the hottest part of the day before heading out on a game drive with a local tracker in search of elusive desert adapted elephants. As the day draws to a close, enjoy a refreshing sundowner before returning to the lodge for leisure time prior to dinner.

LOCAL FAVORITE - ROCK LEGENDS: Twyfelfontein invites visitors into a timeless desert landscape etched with the stories of ancient peoples. Set among dramatic sandstone formations with sweeping savannah views, this remarkable site is home to one of Africa's largest and most significant collections of prehistoric rock, some dating back more than 6,000 years. These intricate carvings of animals, humans, and symbols offer a fascinating glimpse into the lives, beliefs, and survival skills of early hunter-gatherer communities. On the Endless Savanah

Another remarkable day of game viewing as you travel through Etosha, with opportunities to spot some of the park's most iconic and elusive species. Keep an eye out for unique birds such as the lively lilac-breasted roller, often seen sunning themselves atop lone branches. Watch the horizon for elephants cooling themselves at the water's edge, splashing in the shallows or coating themselves in dirt.

As you move through areas of thicker vegetation, the landscape becomes a sanctuary for an impressive range of wildlife. Here, you may encounter some of Africa's largest elephants, as well as the endangered black and white rhinoceros, quietly browsing in the shade. With a stroke of luck, you might even glimpse a leopard, resting in a tree or slipping silently through the undergrowth.
