Itinerary

Check into your hotel. Spend the rest of your day exploring this great city with tips, maps, and recommendations on your CosmosGO app. Tonight, meet your Tour Director and travel companions. (D)

A full day to enjoy this busy and brilliant city with many interesting squares and marketplaces, churches, and palazzos in every style—from Moorish to Baroque. Join the included sightseeing tour to learn more about the history and culture and visit the magnificent Baroque St. Catherine Church. (B)

Two Sicilian treats are on the agenda today. First, visit enchanting Trapani with a Local Guide. Set on a harbor that was once at the heart of a powerful trading network stretching from Carthage to Venice, the city center skirts the port and was built primarily in Baroque style.

Next, take a cable car to visit the medieval hilltop town of Erice. Situated about 2,500 feet above sea level, it immediately impresses with its defensive walls and castle, affording breathtaking views over the Gulf of Trapani and Egadi Islands. On clear days, see all the way to the African coast. Overnight in nearby Marsala. Today's Distance: 121 mi/ 195 km (B/D)

This morning, spend some time on your own in Marsala, or awaken your palate with an optional excursion to learn about Sicilian wine and to experience the ancient salt pans and mills, created by the Phoenicians and still active today. The salt pans, according to temperature, weather, and water evaporation, display different colors reflecting the Sicilian sky.

Then head towards Selinunte, one of the most striking and interesting archaeological sites in Sicily. Here, you will see the remains of the acropolis, with its temples and fortifications. Continue to Agrigento. Today's Distance: 93 mi/ 150 km (B/D)

Enjoy a guided visit of the spectacular Doric temple of Concord, and the temple of Juno Lacinia, archaeological jewels of the Valley of the Temples near Agrigento. On to Piazza Armerina, a maze of steep streets positively overflowing with the vibrant atmosphere of Sicilian life. At nearby Casale, visit the well-preserved Roman villa, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and famous for its mosaics, including the whimsical “Bikini Girls.”

Tonight, we'll save you a seat at the table for an optional Sicilian dinner. The tastes and aromas of colorful Sicilian food never fail to please, especially when paired with traditional music and entertainment. Today's Distance: 158 mi/ 255 km (B)

Drive up the heights of Mount Etna with the option of a jeep or cable-car ride for a better view of Europe's largest active volcano (subject to weather conditions). Descend to sun-kissed Taormina, magnificently situated on a 700-foot plateau overlooking the Ionian Sea. The heart of Taormina is Piazza Nove Aprile, a paved square with unmatched views of the sea and Mount Etna. Take a stroll along the Corso Umberto and maybe taste a refreshing granita or a sumptuous cannolo. Today's Distance: 93 mi/ 150 km (B/D)

Arrive in the coastal town of Cefalù, featuring medieval squares, narrow streets, and ancient churches. During your visit, marvel at the sight of the Norman cathedral, a 12th-century fortress-like structure with elaborate Byzantine mosaics and soaring twin towers. Later, return to Palermo. During your final day in this glorious city, catch up on some last-minute shopping or explore more of the city on your own. Today's Distance: 186 mi/ 300 km (B)

Your vacation ends with breakfast this morning. (B)

Wonderful overview of beautiful Sicily!   5 , SA, Australia, Aug 2018
Having visited Italy many times, I decided to tour Sicily hoping to see something a little different and I was not disappointed! Sicily is rich in Greek history, is a little more rustic than the mainland and is beautiful. The tour length was perfect and allowed us to see many of the main attractions from volcanoes, beaches, temples and more. Overall read more a great trip that was well organised and enjoyable.
Sicily Discovery Tour 3 , NSW, Australia, Aug 2018
This tour was amazing! I met some fantastic people from around the world who now are friends for life! The tour director, Gianpaolo, was amazing and made the tour fun and enjoyable along with the 40 people who I shared this amazing experience with. The places we saw were exactly what I wanted to see and experience. The hotels were OK, but could be a read more bit better in standard, but overall the tour was fantastic. I would definitely recommend Cosmos as a tour operator and would do another tour in the future.
Wonderful opportunity to visit a special part of Italy 1 , WA, Australia, Aug 2018
I have travelled many times over the years with Cosmos & always found their tours to be excellent value for money, well planned & professionally executed. This tour was no exception & I thoroughly enjoyed this wonderful opportunity to visit a very special part of Italy. The tour guide, Flora, was excellent in every way.
As always, I experienced wonderful read more service from Global Journeys, via Yvonne Brooks, with the booking of this tour.
Sicily Discovery 7 , New Zealand, Oct 2017
The booking process with Leanne was excellent. She kept me well informed and sent me a reminder when the final payment was due. The travel documents were sent by couriers but they misplaced it. Leanne resent another set of documents and got it all sorted in no time. The second tour discount and the repeat customer discount was not automatically applied read more to the quote at first but when I mentioned this to Leanne, she was quick to correct it.

The tour guide was friendly and ran the tour group like a 'family'. He called himself papa and called us all babies. He told us stories along the way and help us when we needed. He performed well from the start to the end unlike some guides who only perform well at the end hoping to get big tips. The driver on the other hand was a bit rude and grumpy most of the time but changed a few days before the tour end. What I loved the most from the tour guide was he had a regular stop for the 'magic room' (toilet). What I loved the least was that he was a bit pushy on selling excursions.

The accommodations were mostly average with some places well below the average. The first and the last ones which happened to be the same hotel were really good, far away from the city (Rome) but close to the airport. Most showers were small and I am a small person. I rudely wonder how the large people could fit in some of the showers.

Time spent on the bus each day wasn't too bad with plenty of free time. A few excursions available with some of them at the reasonable price. I found they served way too much food on most excursion dinners. Lots of food went untouched... such a waste. They could have served less and reduce the price but I guess it's how the Italians eat.

I took the 19 October tour and the weather was a bit warm during the day and nice in the morning and at night. The Positano excursion was my favourite. It's a village enclave in the hills leading down the coast. There were shops everywhere and when you got down to the bottom on the beach and looked up you saw the stunning view of the whole village.

The tour included one night on the ferry crossing from Palermo to Naples. The room was a lot better than what I thought. It was a smooth sail. This tour unfortunately didn't include time in Rome except on the first and last days as free time. I highly recommend you to spend a few days or a week even either before or after the tour and explore Rome.
Enjoyable Tour 5 , New Zealand, Jun 2017
Busy tour had good tour director. Hotels well situated and included meals good. The two optional dinners were very good with plenty of food and the wine flowed all night. Overall good value for money.
