Itinerary

Your tour opens in Glasgow, Scotland's Victorian city. Start your Scottish adventure with a visit to the National Piping Centre. After a demonstration and lesson with a renowned piper, it's your chance to give it a go! Then, join your fellow travelers for a lively welcome dinner at the Centre's farm-to-table restaurant. (D) Stay: Maldron Hotel

This morning, bid Glasgow farewell as you travel to Loch Lomond, located in the Trossachs National Park, with its breathtaking scenery, and onto Fort William. Here you visit one of Scotland's renowned whisky distilleries. Taste and see for yourself why Highland malt whisky is considered the world's finest. Admire the verdant green hills and mountainside waters as you arrive at your remote countryside hotel situated on lovely Loch Linnhe. (B/D) Stay: Ballachulish Hotel (2 Nights)

Take a stunning drive along the “Road to the Isles” past Eilean Donan Castle and over the Skye Bridge to the legendary Isle of Skye, also known in poetry and song as Eilean a' Cheò (The Misty Isle). Enjoy dramatic views of the Sound of Sleat. Then, visit Armadale Castle & Gardens and the Museum of the Isles to learn about island life and the history of Skye.

Conclude your visit with views of the isle from yet another vantage point during a ferry crossing back to the mainland at Mallaig. Returning to Ballachulish along the same road, pass through Glenfinnan where Bonnie Prince Charlie rallied the clansmen for battle during the 1745 Jacobite Rebellion. (B/D)

Today, enjoy stunning and unspoiled landscapes as you journey further into the Highlands. Travel through the Great Glen, famous for its many lochs (lakes). Grab your windbreaker – it's time for an adventure on the Orkney Islands. On the crossing, feel the wind in your hair as you view the abundant bird life and, if you are lucky, porpoises and seals.

A local guide introduces this ethereal place that few visitors to Scotland get to experience. Visit Skara Brae and discover the remains of a Neolithic village built at the same time as the Great Pyramids in Egypt. Continue on toward the prehistoric Standing Stones of Stenness, reported to be older than Stonehenge. Make your way through the town of Viking Kirkwall before returning to the mainland. (B)

As you make your way back from the northern coast, visit the majestic Dunrobin Castle which dates back to the 1300s. Discover Scotland 2 , NSW, Australia, Jul 2023
This was such a great tour. The accommodation was excellent with a friendly and cultural feel. Lots of great meal inclusions which was a surprise. The included activities were varied and fun. This was really due to the tour guide, bus driver, local guides and of course our fellow passengers. I would recommend this tour in a heartbeat!
Scotland in a Nutshell 9 , WA, Australia, Jun 2019
This was our first experience travelling with Collette and their administration was efficient. We requested for early release of documents and they did it in good time. The documents were complete and thorough. They even provided a list of emergency contacts including the addresses and phone numbers of all the hotels for us.

The Tour Manager contacted ...read more us 2 weeks before departure preparing us with tips and advice. She happened to be a historian who is well informed, entertaining and a great storyteller. We were greeted on the first day with a warm welcome. She was organised and managed the group very well.

The itinerary was well paced with 2 nights stay at each town except for 2 places with a 1 night stay. Hotels were clean and well located. The beds were comfortable. Daily breakfast and most dinners were included, and they were very good. Activities included a visit to Isle of Skye and Orkney Island, bagpipe playing lesson, cookery class. Overall this has been an enjoyable trip and we would consider doing another trip with Collette.
