Itinerary

Depart Darwin and travel along the Arnhem Highway, their major river systems and wetlands, into Kakadu National Park. Located 257 kilometres east of Darwin, this national park covers 20,000 square kilometres of landscape from rocky escarpment home to historic Aboriginal rock art dating thousands of years, to floodplains abundant with wildlife.

Visit the Warradjan Cultural Centre to view the informative displays depicting the traditions of the Aboriginal people in Kakadu. Join your local guide on a cruise of Yellow Water Billabong. Search for saltwater crocodiles and the colourful range of birdlife for which this region is renowned.

After lunch, stop at Burrungkuy (Nourlangie), where your Driver Guide will lead you on a walk to view the rock art galleries. There is the opportunity for an optional 50-minute scenic flight (own expense). (L) Stay: Mercure Kakadu Crocodile Hotel

This morning join your Driver Guide to explore the World Heritage Area of Ubirr, where you'll climb up through the ancient Aboriginal rock art galleries, believed to be 20,000 years old, to the lookout for a view over the surrounding wetlands.

Join the Guluyambi Cruise on the East Alligator River. An Aboriginal guide will provide an insight into their culture, including local mythology, the river's abundant food chain, as well as bush survival skills. With special permission of the local people, you are able to go ashore in Arnhem Land. Visit the Marrawuddi Art Gallery before returning to Darwin. (L) Stay: The Leaa Resort

After making your own way to the Cullen Bay Ferry Terminal, a five-minute drive from the CBD, take the 2½ hour cruise aboard a ferry to Bathurst Island. You will be greeted by your local Guide to be taken on a journey through the progressive, modern day Aboriginal community of Wurrumiyanga.

Visit the Museum with its interesting displays of traditional art and depictions of the Tiwi ‘dreamtime' stories and see the Early Mission Precinct with its unique Tiwi style Catholic Church. Hear about the colourful history of the early mission days and learn how the Tiwi people have blended their culture with Christianity. Take time out for lunch. Spend time with some Tiwi ladies while they work on their paintings. Your guides and the ladies also demonstrate their totem dances and perform a smoking ceremony to bless the visitors and explain the meanings behind them.

You'll be taken through the successful Arts & Crafts Centre and see where the artists work. You also have the opportunity to purchase Tiwi arts and crafts and screen-printed fabric at Island prices. Learn some of the complex rituals associated with the Pukamani (burial ceremony) before returning to the ferry landing to re-board your vessel, departing Bathurst Island for Darwin at 3.15 pm. (L)

Kakadu & Crocodiles 5 , NSW, Australia, Mar 2017
Loved the boat trip through the wetlands and also seeing the crocodiles (but they were not actually in Kakadu). The accommodation in Kakadu at the Crocodile hotel was average and the food expensive. $5 for a cup of coffee was outrageous. The flight trip over Kakadu was wonderful - but this was an add on. The tour guides were OK. But disappointed in read more some lack of knowledge. e.g. we were led to believe that Aborigines still live in Kakadu and when asked how come we didn't see any - nor any evidence as we flew over - we were told that they were there and could see us but obviously were hiding. This is untrue, as they tend to live in Arnhem Land.
Excellent coach driver 1 , New Zealand, Sep 2013
Our coach driver was very knowledgeable about the flora and fauna and had obviously spent time getting to know much about Aboriginal culture first hand and he related well to the Aboriginal guides we met during the tour.
They went beyond the call of duty 1 , Australia, Jul 2013
I thought the office staff to be very friendly and most helpful. The drivers used by the company were knowledgeable about all aspects and even helped me up onto the rocks to enable me to view the rock art, which was most welcome. They went beyond the call of duty. I would recommend your company to people visiting Darwin as I had a great holiday. Thanks read more go to Kirby for arranging things for me.
We would definitely visit Arnhem Land again 1 , Australia, Jul 2013
We enjoyed the whole tour very much, excellent accommodation and guides. Kakadu/ Arnhem Land was a very welcoming place and we would definitely go there again. Global Journeys made the whole booking process easy and answered my questions very promptly and provided good service.
The trip into Ubirr blew our minds 1 , Australia, Jul 2011
At first we were wondering if we had allocated too much time in Kakadu, but each day just improved with a number of things to do via the associated tour network. The highlights were the trip into Jim Jim Falls, (even though our tour guide fell upon the rocks and broke his arm), the Aboriginal tour on the South Alligator river spotting bird life and read more crocks, The trip into Arnhan land to Oinpelie and the associated rock art. The trip into Ubirr blew our minds with the views over the flood plains and the rock art. In all four very enjoyable days with a relaxing couple of hours spent on a billabong having lunch. For a 'shutter bug' there was no lack of subject matter to photograph!
It was a great time to relax as well as learn 2 , Australia, Jun 2011
Thank you for a very pleasant tour. We particularly enjoyed the Kakadu part of the trip, especially spending time with an aboriginal guide. He showed us many interesting things as well as revealing something of his delightful personality and his artistic talents. The driver and guide were at all times very helpful and hospitable. It was a great time read more to relax as well as learn about this unique part of Australia.
