Itinerary

Depart Darwin and travel along the Arnhem Highway, their major river systems and wetlands, into Kakadu National Park. Located 257 kilometres east of Darwin, this national park covers 20,000 square kilometres of landscape from rocky escarpment home to historic Aboriginal rock art dating back thousands of years, to floodplains abundant with wildlife. Visit the Warradjan Cultural Centre to view the informative displays depicting the traditions of the Aboriginal people in Kakadu. Join your local guide on a cruise of Yellow Water Billabong. Search for saltwater crocodiles and the colourful range of birdlife for which this region is renowned.

After lunch, stop at Burrungkuy (Nourlangie), where your Driver Guide will lead you on a walk to view the rock art galleries. There is the opportunity for an optional 50-minute scenic flight (own expense). (L) Stay: Mercure Kakadu Crocodile Hotel

This morning travel by 4WD vehicle into Western Arnhem Land and the Mikinj Valley. The scenery includes forests, sandstone outcrops, escarpments, floodplains and billabongs. You'll visit places inaccessible to most, including ancient rock art sites. Learn about traditional land ownership, bush skills, hunting, food gathering, and bush tucker preparation. Most tours are accompanied by an Aboriginal guide. (L)

This morning join your Driver Guide to explore the World Heritage Area of Ubirr, where you'll climb up through the ancient Aboriginal rock art galleries, believed to be 20,000 years old, to the lookout for a view over the surrounding wetlands. Join the Guluyambi Cruise on the East Alligator River. An Aboriginal guide will provide an insight into their culture, including local mythology, the river's abundant food chain, as well as bush survival skills.

With special permission of the local people, you can go ashore in Arnhem Land. Visit the Marrawuddi Art Gallery before returning to Darwin, where your short break concludes. (L)

Arnhem Land a must. 1 , NSW, Australia, Sep 2022
AAT Kings Arnhem Land tour was fantastic, cultural and with mind blowing rock art. This place should be listed as one of the world wonders. This is a must see over 60,000 years of history explained by highly knowledgeable Aboriginal guides. Came away with photos and more understanding of the Aboriginal culture. Great thanks to Hannah from Global Journeys and AAT Kings.
Kakadu & Arnhem land explorer   1 , SA, Australia, May 2021
Malcom was one of the best coach drivers/ tour leaders we have had the pleasure of meeting. His sense of humor was infectious as he laughed at most his own jokes and his knowledge of the area was outstanding. Debbie coach drivers/ tour leader was also happy and friendly with excellent communication skills which made us happy and relaxed. The Arnhem read more land explorer (4WD) was a highlight of the tour and although a little bumpy in stages was well worth the drive to see such a vast and beautiful part of Australia.
Perfect Tour 1 , WA, Australia, Oct 2017
This was the perfect tour for us. The 4WD tour was excellent. Rich was a passionate guide and got us climbing the rocks to see some awesome rock art. This was done at a leisurely pace and no question was stupid. Beautiful lunch by a billabong. Croc hotel was a good base for this tour as well and food was reasonably priced. We also did the scenic flight read more on the first morning and was dropped off at Jabiru Airport and flew over Kakadu to Cooinda where we met the coach again to do the Yellow River tour. We would recommend doing this flight as it really puts everything into perspective. The river cruise on the last day was also a highlight and the number of crocs by Cahill crossing really opened your eyes. We would thoroughly recommend doing this tour.
Very memorable trip. 1 , NSW, Australia, Aug 2017
What a great time we have just had at Kakadu/Arnhem land. The drivers were outstanding, the scenery and wildlife spectacular. Accommodation a little tired but fitted the purpose. Overall fantastic.
Kakadu and West Arnham Land   1 , Vic, Australia, Sep 2016
Highly recommend this tour. Guides knowledgeable, punctual and helpful. Stayed two nights at Aurora Resort where the room was spacious and comfortable but dinner at night was average and breakfast expensive. Recommend taking a packet of muesli bars and and some bananas and waiting for the morning tea stop. A good mix of activities during each day: billabongs, read more rock art, river cruises. Very special day in Arnham Land—a surprisingly different landscape from Kakadu—where we visited Injalak Arts Centre to watch the local indigenous people working on various creative projects: painting, basket-making, silk-screen fabric printing, all items made to a very high standard and for sale in the air-conditioned shop. Our day finished with a late lunch (excellent) under trees beside a beautiful billabong. This tour is definitely good value for money.
A thoroughly enjoyable experience 1 , Australia, Jul 2014
AAT Kings run a well planned set of tours which include 1 to 4 day tours to Kakadu. As we were on the 4 day tour, we had several different guides and coach drivers. We found some repetition occurred across the days. The Guluyambi Cultural cruise was both entertaining and informative. There was a short delay in being picked up from our hotel on the first read more day and some confusion with being returned to our hotel on the final day, but all was well in the end. A thoroughly enjoyable experience. A great experience with Global Journeys!
Would recommend it for all Australians to do 1 , Australia, Jun 2011
It was a great trip. Everything when to schedule. We were picked up on time. The tour guides were great. Accommodation was good but expensive, but no real problem. Would recommend it for all Australians to do.
