Canadian Masterpiece with Alaska Cruise Reviews

Had the best time, on my second time around through the Rockies. This time with my husband. Highlights of the tour were seeing the plentiful wildlife. The only ...read more thing I would suggest is that Cosmos offer breakfast each morning on their tours, some of the starts are really early and even a couple of bananas in your room would be appreciated.

The wildlife and their babies were wonderful to see. Whereas from July to August, seeing the salmon swimming up the river and the bears catching them was also magical. So, whatever time of the year you choose to go. You will have a wonderful time.

The Rocky Mountaineer was fabulous... and the coach section of the Rockies was amazing. Our tour director Brad and Driver Kong were exceptional. Made the holiday very special and one to remember.

Also Global Journeys offered the most competitive pricing, based on other quotes obtained. I would also highly recommend her as a travel agent as well.

We went on the first tour of the year which was 27 April, 2019. We found this to be great as we still experienced lots of snow in Banff and Lake Louise. Also the bears were just coming out of hibernation and we saw a few close up (out of the safety of the coach window). We also saw other wildlife such as elk and deer on numerous occasions. We did a whale watching Cosmos optional tour from Victoria and saw a grey whale along with sea lions and otters. We saw whales while on our 7 day cruise portion of our trip as well.

We had a mix of ages on our tour between around 45-75 years old, median age probably in 60s I would guess. Our very experienced guide Brad was a wealth of information and an all round great guy. We did the Rocky Mountaineer for 2 days of our tour. The scenery was spectacular and we saw wildlife from the train as well. The service and food were excellent as well.

I travelled with a friend and we both agreed that this tour was excellent value for money. All of our accommodation was great, our tour coach and driver were great. We got to experience a lot of different places in a short space of time around Canada and 3 different ports in Alaska- Juneau, Skagway & Ketchikan. The Holland America cruise was good too.

We chose the last tour of the season, and had the most spectacular weather to add to the spectacular scenery.

Yvonne was so helpful and prompt in sending us information and documents. She made sure that everything was in order before we left. We had a wonderful trip beginning with the Rocky Mountaineer. The local guide with Cosmos was very organised and helpful and made the trip run smoothly. While the overall tour was good, there were some highs and lows on the tour. The highs are definitely the two days spent on the Rocky Mountaineer and the seven day cruise on the Volendam in the inside passage. I opted for the Gold Leaf experience and was really pleased with the whole experience except that I could not understand why we were sent to ...read more a different hotel than the Silver Leaf guests which was a shuttle bus ride of twenty minutes out of town. The seven day inside passage component was absolutely fantastic. Each stop was long enough to do side tours or activities with enough time to see each downtown area with gift shops and eateries before re-boarding the ship.

I felt the coach component was a little hectic with a couple of really early starts and a couple of long days on the coach, one which was a result of a road closure due to forest fires which was no fault of the tour company. I would like to mention that while all the hotels were comfortable, three of them were not air conditioned and as the temps in each area at the time were quite high it meant that the rooms were both hot and stuffy unless you had a good breeze and could open your windows which was not the case in all instances. We were upgraded in Jasper to a beautiful hotel, The Jasper Park Loge which is a Fairmont hotel but one of the three hotels that were not air-conditioned. This hotel was also out of town and required a shuttle bus to get back to town. I can only say that after a long day on a coach the last thing I wanted to do was get another bus so that I could visit the local area and eateries.

Unfortunately due to the forest fires at this time of year some areas were hazy and the full benefits of the views could not be fully appreciated but overall the scenery was still fantastic and I am really glad that I took this tour.

Loved this holiday, my first organised tour, but it was terrific. I was travelling on my own so was very pleased that we had a very friendly group - who at no time made me feel isolated. The bus tour was interesting, though I would like a little more time in some of the places we visited. Vancouver Island was a welcome break before disembarking on the ship for Alaska, which was also awesome - those little towns were just lovely. Overall, a great experience. Looked after like royalty on the Rocky Mountaineer and the service on board the Volendam was next to none. The Cosmos tour provided the best guide and driver and we stayed in some superb accommodation.

The highlights were the Rocky Mountaineer train, Lake Louise, the Columbia Icefield, and stopping at the little towns along the way. The cruise was magnificent. We would do the whole tour again without hesitation. The minor low lights were insignificant. We met some lovely people through the tour and have even exchanged email addresses. The land tour was go, go go. Bags out at 6.30am and on the bus by 7.30am. But for us this was all part of the excitement and there was plenty of time to cat nap on the coach. Being the first tour package we have done it was awesome.

Canada was fantastic, Alaska was absolutely outstanding, stunning and beautiful. So glad we added the Rocky Mountaineer instead of a coach for our Canada leg, well worth it. Highlights for me? Banff, Glacier Bay, and Ketchikan.

There were two main highlights of our trip - Rocky Mountaineer and the glaciers in Glacier Bay. The Rocky Mountaineer is an extremely well run trip (2 days) from the welcome and departure, to the commentary, food, beverages and excellent service. The cruise through the inside passage and the time at Glacier Bay, watching and hearing the ice crash into the sea was an experience not to be missed. The cruise (run by Holland America on the Volendam) surpassed our expectations - a very well run organisation that could not do enough to make the cruise an excellent experience.

The Cosmos coach trip gave us a good introduction to this (BC) part of Canada although we felt that some of the hotels were a little sub-standard and that component of the trip should be reviewed. Also we felt that the trip was a little rushed and could benefit from two nights at more of the places visited - for example after arriving early evening at Whistler from Sun Peaks (a long bus ride) we had to leave early the next morning to catch the ferry to Victoria, Vancouver Island, and everyone felt they did not really get a chance to have a good look at Whistler. Overall it was a fantastic trip and we have no hesitation in recommending this combination.
