Arrive in Cape Town, where we'll meet you on arrival and transfer you to your hotel, affectionately known as Mt Nellie. At the foot of Table Mountain, and walking distance of Company's Garden, this exquisitely restored colonial hotel was painted pink over 100 years ago.

After breakfast, meet up with your fellow travellers and tour director for a welcome briefing before you head out to discover the charms of the city. Built by Dutch colonialists, stop at the Castle of Good Hope for a tour of this historic pentagonal fortress, the oldest colonial building in South Africa. Afterwards, board the aerial cableway to the top of Table Mountain. This evening, delve into Cape Town's dining scene as you enjoy dinner at a local restaurant.

After breakfast this morning, journey along the spectacular coastal Chapman's Peak Drive to Cape Point. Enroute, take in the South African beach scenery, its quaint villages and the ‘tip' of Africa, Cape Point, before continuing on to Simon's Town for lunch. Nearby is Boulders Beach, where you might see a colony of penguins, before returning to your hotel.

Choose how to spend your morning with a number of sightseeing options on offer. Afterwards, head for the oak-shaded streets of Stellenbosch, one of South Africa's most well-known wine regions, for the remainder of the day. Here, let the town's tremendous history, character and charm unfold before you, with magnificent mountains forming the perfect backdrop.

- Perhaps head to Robben Island and during a guided visit learn about the prison where Nelson Mandela was housed and life on the island. Otherwise, you might like to set out on a Heritage tour to discover the neighbourhoods of Bo-Kaap and District Six.

We loved every moment of our African tour with APT, from the moment we booked with Global Journeys, to our flight home with Singapore Airlines, and everything in between. Highlights for us included the game drives at Kirkman's Kamp where we saw the Big Five several times over, the 2 nights spent on the luxurious Zambezi Queen along the Chobe River, read more and our Devil's Pool experience in Zambia, where we swam out to the edge at the top of the Victoria Falls. It was lovely to share our journey with a group of like-minded travellers and a tour guide who ensured our days were well organised and trouble free. Even on the longer travel days, there was always a game drive or a special dinner to look forward to. This trip is certainly up there with the best holidays we've ever had!
