Itinerary

Welcome to the “Windy City.” Your Tour Director is on hand from 3-6:00 p.m. to answer any questions. Once settled into your hotel, perhaps start exploring the city via the 1.25-mile Riverwalk along the Chicago River or do some shopping at the many well-known stores along Michigan Avenue, better known as the Magnificent Mile.

Chicago is known for its iconic architecture, world class museums, and beautiful waterfront. Sightseeing includes landmarks like the Wrigley Building, Willis Tower (formerly the Sears Tower), and Navy Pier followed by an afternoon at leisure. Consider a visit to the extraordinary Art Institute of Chicago or enjoy an optional river cruise to take in the Windy City's amazing architecture. Then perhaps go for a slice (or three) of iconic Chicago deep-dish pizza!

Travel across the fertile Illinois farmlands to St. Louis, “Gateway to the West.” An orientation tour includes Gateway Arch National Park, which commemorates the city's key role in westward expansion and a visit to the museum under the Arch, which celebrates Lewis & Clark's famous expedition 200 years ago.

Recross the Mississippi River and roll southeast to Paducah, Kentucky on the Ohio River. Have time for lunch there and perhaps pay a visit to the National Quilt Museum to view quilts that truly are works of art. Late afternoon arrival in Nashville. (B)

Take a sightseeing tour of Nashville, the Country Music Capital of the World and visit the famous landmarks like Centennial Park with its reproduction of the Parthenon and see the recording studios on Music Row. Consider joining an optional excursion to tour both historic RCA Studio B, birthplace of the 1960s “Nashville Sound” where stars such as Dolly Parton, Elvis Presley, Willie Nelson, and the Everly Brothers recorded many of their biggest hits and the Country Music Hall of Fame to see glittering costumes, rare instruments, and Elvis Presley's “solid gold” Cadillac.

Tonight, enjoy reserved seating for a toe-tapping show at the world-famous Grand Ole Opry, a mecca for country musicians.

Depart Nashville and visit the Tina Turner Museum in the one-room schoolhouse attended by a young Anna Mae Bullock (a.k.a. Tina Turner). See the collection of the “Queen of Rock's” memorabilia, including costumes, gold records, and even her high school yearbook!

Arrive in Memphis, “Home of the Blues” and a city with a distinct Southern flavor. Enjoy an orientation tour on arrival featuring Beale Street and the Lorraine Hotel where Martin Luther King was assassinated. Later, consider an optional excursion to Sun Studio where Elvis first recorded, as well as other music legends like B.B. King, Johnny Cash and Jerry Lee Lewis, followed by dinner.

Enjoy time today at Graceland, Elvis Presley's beautiful estate. Your guided audio tour focuses on the opulent 15,000-square-foot mansion and the Meditation Garden where Elvis, and his daughter and grandson, are laid to rest. Go inside Elvis' custom jets and see his favorite automobiles. Return to Memphis mid-afternoon and, if you haven't done so already, perhaps get a real taste of Memphis with some southern barbecue and live music on Beale Street.

Today, make your way through the state of Mississippi to Indianola, birthplace of B.B. (Blues Boy) King. There, you'll visit the B.B. King Museum and Delta Interpretive Center that tells his life story, from his humble beginnings to his big break on Beale Street and also learn about the impact the Mississippi Delta had on the birth of American Music. Early this evening, arrive in New Orleans with time to start exploring the ‘Big Easy' on your own.

A full morning is dedicated to the sights and sounds of New Orleans, featuring a guided tour that includes the French Quarter landmarks, St. Louis Cathedral and Jackson Square, and a visit to a unique above-ground cemetery.

This afternoon, continue exploring this lively city on your own or join an optional excursion to tour one of the many plantation homes in southern Louisiana. The architecture and beauty of these homes alone is impressive and the stories that go with them are even better. Or cruise down bayous with moss-draped cypress trees to seek out alligators on an optional Louisiana Swamp Tour. This evening, enjoy an optional Mississippi River dinner cruise, complete with live jazz—the perfect finale to a memorable touring adventure of the South.

Your vacation ends this morning. You may choose to extend your vacation with extra nights and explore the “Big Easy” further.

Great tour for music lovers 0 , Australia, May 2025
Our 2nd trip with Cosmos tours. The tour had many music highlights of entertainment and history. Included tours and many optional tours as well to make the trip special. There was time allowed to explore on you own which was great. The hotels were of a good standard and always close to the entertainment and eateries for your own leisure time. Which read more is helpful when meals aren't included. Our bus driver was excellent and got us to each destination very safely. I would recommend Cosmos if you were looking for a stress-free holiday.
Terrific Music Tour 0 , SA, Australia, May 2025
Cosmos put on a great trip through the middle of the USA, taking in all the music spots along the way. We enjoyed Memphis/ Beale Street, lots of lively bars and perfect weather for being outdoors. Nashville was also a great spot, Broadway having many rooftop bars. This stop could have done with more time as there was the Country Music Hall of Fame, read more Johnny Cash's museum and Broadway with all its rooftop bars and loads of entertainment. Not enough time to see it all. New Orleans was a great spot to, we spent extra time there after the tour finished. Our hotels were good, adequate and the one in New Orleans was very close to Bourbon St in the French Quarters. The choice of optional excursions was pretty good to, all in all well done to Cosmos. Also a well done to Georgie Walpole from Global Journeys who has helped us out with a couple of Cosmos Tours now.
Dixieland Rythmns and Blues Tour   5 , Victoria , Australia, Sep 2019
This being our very first tour, it was very good. Our Tour Director (Melanie Wagner) was very good. The coach driver (Jonathan) was very good and we felt very safe with his driving abilities. The tour over all was about the right time, although a couple of places we could have done an extra day, as it was very fast and short. The only complaint is the read more Inn of Chicago was a little tired as the room was looking old, the carpet needed to be replaced as it had holes in.
Dixieland & Rhythms 3 , WA, Australia, Jun 2019
I would be happy to tour with Globus again. Highlights were the St Louis Arch, Nashville and Gracelands. Our accommodation was excellent.
Great trip if you love music. 7 , NSW, Australia, Sep 2017
If you love music then this holiday is for you. Hotels were comfortable and the upgrade to the Graceland Guest House was perfect, Cosmos should offer more music options in Chicago as there are many blues related facilities which were never mentioned and we discovered by ourselves. Recommend additional days to explore.
Recommend a baseball match in read more St. Louis, great night. Paddle steamer cruise in New Orleans was average for a farewell dinner. Still think breakfast should be included as it makes the morning starts a lot easier.
Wonderful for Elvis fans, like myself!   10 , WA, Australia, Jun 2017
This tour is an excellent one for lovers of country music, rock, rhythm & blues and jazz. It's especially wonderful for Elvis fans, like myself! The pace is not an easy one; for example you have to negotiate many steps at the Gateway Arch, so a good level of fitness is required. Most of the people on this tour were in their 50s, 60s and early 70s. read more At 73 years, I was the second oldest. Consider myself reasonably active but don't think I would want to have done this tour in say, a couple of years from now. Some days, particularly those in Nashville and Memphis, were rather tiring, especially if you were doing the optional tours as well.

My group consisted of 27 Australians, 7 New Zealanders and 2 Brits. Suggest would-be single travellers think carefully before opting for shared hotel accommodation. Our tour guide, Brenda Brooks, was one of the best, as was driver Larue.
Dixieland Tour 8 , Qld, Australia, Oct 2016
Peter was likely the best tour guide we've ever had. His initiative and genuine commitment to ensuring our enjoyment, including extensive knowledge, stories, music and even costumes were first class. Only criticism is the over the top preamble speech that Cosmos makes all their tour guides give re tipping.
Fantastic and stress free trip through the middle of the USA 5 , QLD, Australia, Jul 2016
This was our third tour with Cosmos and it definitely met all expectations. We had a great tour group with a good mix of nationalities and made lasting friendships. Our tour guide Brenda was very informative and our driver John was extremely professional. I have already recommended this tour to friends at home. Highlights were Nashville and the honky read more tonk bars and Graceland. Would definitely use Global Journeys again. Thanks Yvonne.
Grest trip through middle USA 5 , VIC, Australia, Nov 2015
Had a great time travelling with Cosmos on the Dixie Land Rhythm tour. Chicago was amazing and the tour guide Kristen and bus driver Rick really eager to help and really nice people. Loved the tours of RCA and Sun recording studios and anybody who lived through the music of the 60's will find the tour amazing. A great trip to see more of the USA read more other than the big cities. Highly recommended and thanks to Georgia for all her help in booking this trip. A big thanks to Global Journeys.
Friendships were formed for life. 7 , NSW, Australia, Nov 2015
This is the first time that I have joined a tour group. I have preferred previously to travel independently. Our Tour Guide Kristen was very welcoming and made us all feel at ease. The ages were varied from 26 to 78 with music being our common interest. We ended up being a very cohesive group. Friendships were formed for life. The tour far exceeded read more my expectations. We went to many places that were not mentioned in the itinerary. All of these enhanced the already amazing itinerary. Our driver Rick was an excellent driver and always delivered us safely to our destinations. Kristen was extremely knowledgeable which made the tour special for me. Kristen had a really lovely manner and was able to get everyone to arrive promptly each day for our early starts. The tour took us to places that would have been other wise be unknown to the average traveller . The variety of places we went to were excellent and pleased every genre of music. Chicago, Nashville and New Orleans were an absolute surprise and I would love to travel back to these places on another tour. I am very keen now to do another tour with Cosmos in 2016 of the National Parks of USA. I highly recommend Dixieland and Rhythms to all music lovers.
