Itinerary

Welcome to China's historic capital city. Hotel rooms are available for mid-afternoon check-in.

Meet your Tour Director and travel companions prior to morning sightseeing in Beijing. Begin at vast Tian'anmen Square, one of the largest public squares in the world, followed by a guided visit inside the Forbidden City, the former imperial palace of China's emperors for over 500 years. The afternoon is at your leisure; consider joining an optional excursion to the Temple of Heaven. This evening, enjoy a welcome Peking duck dinner, a signature dish of Beijing.

Included Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

The Great Wall of China once stretched 4,000 miles across China's barren northern terrain from the Bohai Sea to the Gobi Desert. Head north to a village where the Great Wall is well preserved and walk along this iconic landmark to enjoy sweeping vistas.

Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

Today, board a high-speed train to Xi'an, the former ancient capital. One of the largest and wealthiest cities in the world when China dominated the silk trade, Xi'an today is an archaeological treasure trove. The remainder of the day is at your leisure.

Included Meals: Breakfast

Sightseeing begins with one of the most extraordinary archaeological discoveries of the 20th century—the Terracotta Warriors. Accidentally uncovered by local farmers in 1974, this immense underground army was created to stand watch over the tomb of China's first emperor, Qin Shi Huangdi. Marvel at the legion of life-size clay soldiers, horses, and chariots that have been guarding the burial site for 2,000 years.

Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

Catch a bullet train to Chengdu, capital of Sichuan and home of the giant panda. Enjoy some time at leisure before dinner at your hotel.

Included Meals: Breakfast, Dinner

Journey through the mountainous scenery to the Wolong Giant Panda Nature Reserve, home to over 170 pandas. Learn how this area protects and rehabilitates these beautiful animals. This evening is yours to explore Chengdu, renowned for its bold, flavorful cuisine. Try a bite on an optional excursion featuring Sichuan hot pot, followed by a traditional face-changing performance, an iconic culinary and cultural experience of the city.

Included Meals: Breakfast

Fly to Shanghai, China's largest city and a global center of commerce and culture. The balance of the day is yours to explore this dynamic metropolis.

Included Meals: Breakfast

Sightseeing today includes a stroll through the Old Town and beautiful Yu Yuan Garden, a place of peace and tranquility in this bustling city. Walk along the famous Bund with its colonial architecture, then enjoy lunch at a local restaurant.

Included Meals: Breakfast, Lunch

Spend the day at your leisure, or join an optional excursion to Zhujiajiao Ancient Water Town. With a history of more than 1,700 years, this little town is the best-preserved among ancient towns in Shanghai, featuring graceful stone bridges over quiet canals, willow-lined waterways, and traditional courtyard homes. Tonight, join your Tour Director and traveling companions for a special farewell dinner featuring Shanghai's famous xiaolongbao dumplings.

Our first insight into China 3 , Auckland, New Zealand, Oct 2018
Our tour was exceptionally organised using planes, trains and coach to see the major "must see" parts of China. The local guides made each place far more meaningful even though we'd taken definitive guide books with us. The tour guide who was with us for the entire time was able to give us continuity and deal with the logistics of each day and how read more we were going to achieve the itinerary with regular toilet stops. We were primed the night before as to what we'd need in the way of wet weather gear by being told the local weather forecast. Anna our guide was the best that we've ever met. She was totally organised and her English was excellent and she lay down her expectations of us like being on time and where we were to meet. She called us Anna's family which gave us all a sense of belonging.
A China Experience Tour 2 , New Zealand, Sep 2018
Thanks Cosmos for making our holiday a great and authentic China experience. We appreciate the fact that the tour guide went to a lot of trouble to make sure everyone was happy and satisfied. We loved all the great attractions and cultural experiences and were impressed at how Cosmos gave much more than expected. We loved the food and thought it much read more healthier than Western diets today. We also were impressed at the way China is tackling pollution, the very good roads, the quality of the new buildings and the advances in education. Too many great highlights to mention but the Terracotta Warriors and the Great Wall were among the best.
Wonderful holiday 2 , New Zealand, Apr 2018
It was a tour filled with endless attractions. Items such as the acrobatics show was out of this world. Dances that we saw were fantastic. All in all we had a jolly good time. Tour Director Charles was a friendly, helpful, caring and knowledgeable person who provided a professional service throughout the tour.

The only improvement that is needed is read more to find a way of minimising the need for tour participants to carry heavy (main) luggage over long distances at the airports and railway stations - even through escalators. In fact a suitcase fell on me while on the escalator and I fell down on the person behind me. Luckily he was strong enough to catch me thereby preventing any injury. This is important because the majority of participants are senior citizens. Anyway it was a fantastic tour that we would recommend to anyone.
Mystery of China enlightened. 1 , SA, Australia, May 2017
Enjoyed the tour immensely. Would recommend to others who are curious about China. The tour took in the icons of China but was a lot more as it revealed how far China has progressed and how fast that progression is continuing. The Crane (mechanical) is certainly the bird emblem. Our national tour guide - Ivy - was absolutely brilliant and made sure read more we all enjoyed everything on offer.
More things off my bucket list 3 , WA, Australia, May 2016
What an awesome holiday. Ticked a number of things off my bucket list - The Great Wall of China, Terracotta Warriors and the Yangtze River. Our tour had only 19 people, which was a great size. Grace was an absolute joy and nothing was too much for her. She went out of her way to ensure we had what we needed and always willing to translate for us - read more especially what food we were eating! The local guides were very knowledgeable and friendly. Would recommend this tour to anyone who wants a snap of China.
An excellent 9 day experience 2 , VIC, Australia, May 2015
The tour exceeded our expectations and we wouldn't hesitate to recommend it to friends. Our Tour Director Jason was excellent and the three local guides were very friendly, approachable, helpful and informative. Accommodations were very clean and comfortable. This was our third booking with Cosmos & Global Journeys and will be back for a fourth. We read more thank Madeline for organising our tour.
