Great Canadian Rail Journey with Alaska Cruise Reviews

I found this trip advertised on an app on my phone. 21 day great Canadian rail journey with Alaska cruise. I contacted Global Journeys and talked to Georgie Walpole who organised the total holiday for my wife and I and what a holiday it turned out to be. The food on the train was top quality with local produce as we crossed the country. Our Globus tour guide has been guiding this particular tour for over 10 years and had a lot of knowledge that she gave us. From Jasper to Victoria Vancouver island we travelled on a bus. We only had 25 on the tour so we all became friends. Like a small family.

Butchart garden's was a highlight on Vancouver island. What a magnificent garden. A must. Our final part of the tour was the inside passage on Holland America Line. The ship was great. The restaraunts and entertainment were great. We were lucky enough to see whales breaching. Seals and sea otters. I could go on and on but I recommend that if you get a chance to see Canada this is the perfect tour to take. Thank you Globus.

We had a wonderful time! The accommodation everywhere we stayed was excellent, the food was delicious and the Canadian people are delightful and super friendly! Our only issue was the train, the cabin was so small we had to take it in turn to move around. Canada is breathtakingly beautiful, felt like we were inside a postcard.

Global Journeys' service is always excellent. The train and ship were well done and unique experiences but we won't be repeating them. Not an issue with the tour as such, but the North American tipping experience takes the shine off any visit.

Excellent guide Sybille and bus driver Garod. Accommodation was excellent. Pace was perfect. All the people were great to travel with and no one was late getting back on the coach after we stopped for photo opportunities or toilet breaks (even though there was a toilet available on the coach, we still had plenty of breaks). Staff at the hotel accommodation ...read more were excellent and helpful. Some of the hotels had DIY laundry which was helpful so you do not have to pack as many clothes. The cruise ship also had a package to get your laundry done. The cost for us was USA$49.00 for unlimited washing as long as you can put it in a small blue washing bag that they supplied one of, and we just asked our room steward for more which was not a problem. There was no DIY facility on the ship for laundry.

When there was a meal supplied the food was excellent. The only negative was the staff on the train. The dining staff were excellent from Toronto to Edmonton but the new dining staff from Edmonton to Vancouver were rude, especially the man who was in charge of the dining car. On the cruise ship the only downer was the overcharging of the helicopter tour in Skagway. Got charged extra USA$130.00 for being 2kg overweight with most of my extra layers on due to the fact you are going on a freezing glacier so had to rug up. Then they tried to charge me twice for that tour, which was prepaid before I left Australia. (Globus has no control over the cruise, my negative about the cruise is aimed at Holland America). Over all had an excellent time with my fellow travellers on this holiday.

We thoroughly enjoyed our recent holiday with Global Journeys and Globus. It was a "trouble-free" experience and we thank Yvonne Brooks for ensuring everything went to plan. Very few operators offer a package that takes you from the eastern side of Canada ...read more (including a visit to the amazing Niagara Falls) to the west across the plains and the Rockies and then onto a ship to sail through the beautiful Inside Passage.

The Rockies were spectacular and the sites we visited were breathtaking. Butchart Gardens in Victoria on Vancouver Island are a "must see". Alaska looks like the "last frontier" and Glacier Bay offered sights we'll never forget. We went Dog-sledding in Skagway which was a unique experience. All in all it was a wonderful holiday. We were a bit disappointed with the beginning of the train trip. We had expected refurbished carriages. But the ones we got were very basic. We did enjoy the trip once the train got to Jasper and we travelled by coach through the rest of Canada. The trip to Alaska was wonderful. The ship was all we expected if not more. Canada's 150th Anniversary was a real celebration but the ensuing backlog of rail freight caused a very delayed start and a longer than normal rail trip for our tour. The additional time at the rail terminal in Toronto was not much fun but once on the train the trip became most enjoyable. The coach section of the trip and the visits to Jasper, Banff ...read more and Victoria were great highlights. The lakes Louise and Maligne and the Columbia icefield were particularly spectacular. To round off the tour with the 8-day Alaska cruise provided a wonderful conclusion to a great tour.

The coach trips were interspersed with interesting inclusions and more than our fair share of roadside wildlife - bears, mountain goats and a herd of 50+ elk. Our tour guide was very professional and extremely knowledgeable. We would highly recommend this tour.

This was the first orgainsed tour we had ever participated in and we were a little hesitant. We had always arranged our own itinerary and chose where and when we stopped. This tour was fantastic. The tour guide was very helpful without giving us the feeling of having no say in what we were doing. This tour provided days when we could chose our own activities. ...read more The organised activities provided a variety of things to do while the accommodation and meals were excellent. A final factor that made this a memorable trip was the fantastic group of people were travelled with - there was a mix of personalities and many laughs were shared.

We really had a great time..accommodation tops! Highlight of the tour is our stay at the very grand Fairmont at York in Toronto! Fantastic value for money with decent accommodation and activities included. Our tour guide Sue was excellent - very friendly, accommodating, and approachable.

The tour went very well and was good value. The meals were all very good, hotels excellent. The only downside was the early starts on a couple of occassions. Tour Director very good.
