Itinerary

Arrive at the Hanoi airport. If your cruise/tour package includes a group arrival transfer or if you have purchased a private arrival transfer, you will be greeted by a Uniworld representative and transferred to your luxury accommodations, the Sofitel Legend Metropole Hanoi Hotel.

Hanoi's elegant boulevards are lined with trees and handsome buildings, as you'll see on today's fascinating tour of the city. At the same time, this lively cultural center—Vietnam's capital city—is replete with bustling streets, food vendors, museums and historic sites, making for an intriguing study in contrasts that rivals any other metropolitan destination. (B)

Featured Excursion: Hanoi City Tour

Enjoy free time in Hanoi before your flight to Siem Reap, Cambodia, where you will be transferred to your luxury hotel, the Sofitel Angkor Phokeethra Golf & Spa Resort.

Today is a bucket list kind of day as you explore the ancient temples of Angkor Wat, a gigantic religious complex that is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. (B/D)

Featured Excursions: Choice of Angkor Wat Temple OR City tour & Artisan visit by remork OR Cambodian Acrobatic Drama

Note: Order of sightseeing may change on Days 4 and 5. Temple visits are subject to change due to factors beyond our control.

Today you will enter the spectacular remnants of Angkor Thom, the royal city. Built during the heyday of the Khmer dynasty in the 12th century, this extraordinary complex of Hindu and Buddhist monuments was once lost to the world for many years, hidden under dense jungle vines. (B)

Featured Excursions: Choice of South Gate Angkor Thom, Bayon and Ta Prohm OR Apsara show and dinner OR Bakheng Hill Sunrise Gondola Ride

Note: Order of sightseeing may change on Days 4 and 5. Temple visits are subject to change due to factors beyond our control.

Today, you'll have free time to explore Siem Reap, a place name that means, literally, “Defeat of Siam”—which tells you something of its history. It is the gateway to Angkor, the legendary archaeological site. Later check out of your hotel and transfer via executive motorcoach to Kampong Cham where you'll embark on the beautiful Mekong Jewel—your elegant home for the next seven nights—and set sail on the beautiful Mekong. (B/L/D)

Featured Excursion: Quad Bike Tour

Today is a celebration of Cambodia's bright future. You'll meet young children at a local school and friendly villagers in their homes, and have a rare opportunity to receive an unforgettable water blessing from local Buddhist monks. (B/L/D)

Featured Excursion: Cambodia's vibrant cultural life

Today, you'll discover the thriving capital of the Kingdom of Cambodia, Phnom Penh. It stands at the juncture of three captivating rivers and represents a dizzying blend of architectural styles—French colonial, Khmer, modern and everything in between. Here, you'll find an alluring riverside esplanade amid numerous bewitching Buddhist temples, palaces and artifacts. (B/L/D)

Featured Excursion: Cambodia's capital—Phnom Penh

Today's featured excursion may be the most profound and memorable experience of your entire journey. You'll learn about the infamous Killing Fields of the Khmer Rouge and visit a former school-turned-prison that is now a genocide museum. (B/L/D)

Featured Excursion: The Killing Fields—tragedy and reconciliation in Cambodia

You leave Cambodia behind and cross into Vietnam today, delving into a region where traditional and modern lifestyle elements mingle: Agriculture may still reign supreme, but TV satellite dishes dot rooftops of houses built on stilts. You'll visit the local island village of Hong Ngu, a major producer of the traditional Khmer scarves located not far from the Vietnam-Cambodia border. Since they're woven in many homes around the village, you'll have the opportunity to see the process first-hand.

You'll also stop at a local temple dedicated to a unique religion founded in this area of Vietnam, Hoa Hoa. And perhaps the most interesting visit of the day? A visit to the local home of a retired VC General. (B/L/D)

Featured Excursion: Daily life on the great delta

Following breakfast, you'll venture to Gieng Island, where you'll experience how a local family makes incense sticks and the conical hat. Later, your journey continues via sampan, where you'll observe the daily routines of the villagers in Sa Dec and visit a colorful temple, the home of Mr. Huynh Thuy Le. (B/L/D)

Featured Excursion: Sampans and romance

Today, you'll witness the hustle and bustle of delta river life as the local traders take their produce to market. After breakfast, you'll board a traditional sampan and explore the narrow canals and backwaters of this famed region. The untouched island of Tien Loi awaits on a unique excursion created exclusively for Uniworld guests, where you can see how local farmers make rooster cages, decorate bonsais in their yards and more. (B/L/D)

Featured Excursion: Village life on the Mekong

Experience how ancient history melds with the boisterous present in Vietnam's largest city, where skyscrapers tower over ancient temples and motorbikes putter along picturesque alleys. (B/D)

Featured Excursion: Dynamic Ho Chi Minh City

Today's featured excursion provides a fascinating glimpse of the Viet Cong's vast network of incredibly narrow tunnels dating back to the Vietnam War. (B/L)

Featured Excursion: Vestiges of war—Cú Chi Tunnels

If your cruise/tour package includes a group departure transfer or if you have purchased a private departure transfer, you will be transferred to Tan Son Nhat International Airport for your flight home or continue your tour with an extraordinary optional extension program. (B)

We had undertaken a very enjoyable trip down the Mekong a few years ago so when this one came up with Uniworld we thought why not go again? It did not let us down. Two days in Hanoi was the appetizer followed by a flight to Siem Reap where the wonder of Angkor Wat and several other temples was the highlight. This is one place that carries the tag of ...read more a "must see". The trip from Siem Reap to our boat by bus was a very long affair but with the provision of food boxes and a few comfort stops along the way the scenery and commentary provided by our local guide made it enjoyable.

The boat itself was from the Pandaw company on lease to Uniworld. Although this boat did not have all the up to date bits found on more modern vessels it more than made up by the attentive caring nature of the crew where nothing was too big an issue. The food on board was first rate. I understand that for future trips another more modern boat will be leased, hopefully the crew is as good as what we had. The trip down the Mekong was great with daily stops to scramble up the river bank to visit local communities, temples markets ect. The trip concluded with two days in bustling Ho Chi Minh, which is an experience in itself. This was an excellent trip. The only down side was the very high temperatures and humidity which made getting around uncomfortable. It was just after the wet season so it was normal for the locals (good they said!). The upside was that mosquitoes were still a few weeks away. Overall a great trip well worth doing.
Fabulous holiday 1 , VIC, Australia, Jul 2015
We have travelled before on this type of cruise in Europe with another leading company . We had heard that Uniworld was a good company to travel with. We spent 15 days on this tour of Vietnam and Cambodia with not a single stone left unturned to ensure we had a fabulous holiday. From the experienced tour guides to the staff on the boat we had excellent ...read more service. We stayed in top 5 star hotels and our food was nothing less than fit for a king. The River Orchid was a spectacular boat and we could not fault a single thing with the accommodation, tours offered and staff on board. Even our bus drivers we professional and we felt safe travelling with them. Every detail was looked after and the tour went very smoothly. Our experience will certainly encourage us to look at Uniworld for further tour offers in the future.

We would like to add that our whole trip had been booked by Yvonne Brooks who ensured that all our information and travel details were correct and taken care of. Yvonne also took the time to search out great airfare deals. This is the second time we have booked a holiday through Yvonne and we do recommend her to our family and friends. She is a knowledgeable and experienced in her field and we felt confident with all the information and details she gave us.
