Tick the box itinerary but socially difficult 0 Tuscany, Milan & Venice , NSW, Australia, Jul 2025
Managed to see everything. Was a thrilling experience that managed to avoid early exhaustion by stopping in each location for a bit longer. Definitely good if you want to see different tourist cities in Italy quickly though certainly doesn't encapsulate everything. My main difficulty was with the group dynamic and as a solo traveller I found it challenging read more to fit in especially as I wasn't so much as the party instagram type and was more focused on the historical background of the sites.
Great Tour 1 Barcelona to London Quest , NSW, Australia, Jun 2024
Great tour starting in Barcelona and ending in London. It was also good how you get to spend two nights in certain cities. The local dinner in Italy was a highlight and recommended!
Gorgeous Greece 1 Athens to Santorini (Hotels) , NSW, Australia, Jun 2024
I you love swimming, blue water and heat, you will love this tour. Greece was gorgeous and the places visited amazing.
Breathtaking tour along the Mediterranean Coast 3 Barcelona to Rome Quest , QLD, Australia, May 2024
This was my second trip with Contiki. I joined the London to Vienna Trail two weeks earlier and then joined this trip in June with a gap in between. It was an unforgettable experience, from our very first stop in Nice I knew I was in for a great time. All the included and optional experiences were loads of fun and really brought the group closer together, read more I made great friends and amazing memories all while traveling along the Mediterranean in Summer! All the accommodation was comfortable and clean and my Contiki tour guide and coach driver were always friendly and made traveling from place to place stress free.

Our tour guide was super helpful by doing some of our thinking for us by letting us know of the best places to eat or to get a drink wherever we were. Booking with Global Journeys made traveling to Europe a whole lot easier. My advisor Sam was always really friendly and informative, always letting me know what I needed to do in preparation of my trip and making sure I didn't miss any deadlines for anything which made my life a lot easier.

FAQs

Can you go on a Contiki trip if you’re over 35?
Contiki trips are designed exclusively for 18 to 35-year-olds. This is because it gives young people the chance to travel (and make unforgettable memories) with a group of people who are all the same/similar age. However, if you’ve travelled with Conitki before, and are aged between 35 and 45, you can recapture the magic of Contiki travel on one of their Limited Edition Reunion trips.
Are Contiki trips good for singles?
Contiki is great for singles, or anyone travelling solo. In fact, around 70% of Contiki travellers book a trip solo. Contiki group tours are packed with young, fun, authentic and like-minded travellers from all over the world, and they usually end with lifelong friendships.
Why does Contiki have an age limit?
Contiki trips are exclusive to 18-35s because we know most young travellers prefer to explore with people of the same/similar age. The age limit also means Contiki can tailor their itineraries, accommodation and experiences to younger travellers.

If you’re over 35, have not travelled with Contiki before and are looking for a similar experience, check out Contiki's open-aged sister brands, including Trafalgar and Costsaver. They also run guided group trips, but are open for travellers of all ages.
How many travellers are on a Contiki trip?
Your group size will depend on the type of trip and the time of year too (i.e. you might have a bigger group during the main tourist season). In Europe, North America and New Zealand, group sizes range from 24-53 travellers. In Asia, Australia, Africa and Latin America, group sizes are usually much smaller – as low as 12 or up to 30 travellers max.
What is Contiki’s cancellation policy?
Plans change, we get it. And sometimes there’s nothing you can do about it. That’s why Contiki created their Flexibility Promise – to help you buy with confidence. If you cancel your booking over 60 days before the departure date, you can get your money back in full - excluding the deposit – which you can use for your choice of alternative Contiki trip (or a trip with one of Contiki's sister brands too.) If you need to cancel less than 60 days before departure, you will be subject to cancellation penalties which differ between trips and are fully detailed in the booking conditions (see at the bottom of this page).
Do I have to pay for my Contiki trip all at once when I book?
If you’re booking your trip well in advance of the departure date, you only need to pay the deposit to secure your place on the trip. The remaining cost is due 65 days prior to departure. If you are booking 60 days or less before the departure date, you’ll need to pay the full amount of the trip up front.
What do I need to get onto my Contiki trip?
On arrival, you’ll need to provide your Trip Manager or Contiki Host with your booking confirmation, travel insurance details, passport details (if travelling internationally) and emergency contact info. You’ll also need your passport and proof of having purchased a visa (if necessary).
Are airport transfers included on my Contiki trip?
Transfers are not included in the trip (unless specified), so you’ll need to make your own way to the start point. In particular destinations or on selected trips, we do offer chargeable transfers and/or complimentary shuttles that can be added onto your booking. Please read the trip itinerary carefully to understand available options.
How do I get to my Contiki trip start point?
It’ll be up to you to make your own way to the start point. Contiki make sure their start points are in well connected and highly visible areas so it shouldn't be any stress getting public transport, or jumping in a cab.

Don’t panic if you’d like help planning this journey, just contact your Trip Manager (reply to the Welcome email they sent you) and they can help you out.
What type of accommodation do you stay in with Contiki?
We have a whole mix of accommodations, depending on the destination and the travel style you’ve chosen. You can stay in hotels, hostels, boats, tented safari camps, jungle lodges, eco lodges, beach resorts, and even Contiki's very own 16th century French Château. All Contiki accommodation is vetted and chosen by their expert trip planning team.
Will I have to share a room on my Contiki trip?
Shared accommodation is part of the Contiki experience. How many people you’ll be sharing with depends on the region, travel style and type of accommodation you choose, but twin or multi-share (up to 6 in one room) sharing according to gender is the norm. If you identify differently to the gender on your passport, or you’re travelling with a friend or partner and you’d like to share with them, let us know so we can do our best to room you accordingly. Festival accommodation is the only instance where up to 8 people could be sharing, and this may be mixed gender.

After a lil' more privacy? On many of Contiki's trips (especially ones that are twin-share) you'll have the option to upgrade to a private room for an additional cost.
Can I have a room to myself on my Contiki trip?
Yes. In most regions and on most trips, you’ll have the option to upgrade to a private room for an additional fee. Please note that on many Contiki multi-share trips that stay at hostels, this may not be possible due to a lack of availability of private rooms.
What if my roommate and I don’t get along on my Contiki?
Your Trip Manager will assign each member of your group to a room, and this will be your rooming formation for the duration of the trip. If for any reason you want to switch rooms, please put this request in to your Trip Manager.
Will I be able to do laundry while travelling with Contiki?
Long days exploring can often = a necessity to do laundry. The good news is, lots of Contiki's accommodation offers laundry facilities so you don’t need to be known as the traveller with stinky socks. There is a small fee for laundry services and detergent (top tip: if you want to be super saving savvy, bring some laundry powder with you). If your accommodation doesn't have a laundry service and you’re really desperate, just ask your Trip Manager to help you find a local laundrette.
Do Contiki coaches have WiFi?
They sure do. All Contiki branded coaches offer free WiFi to keep you up to date on the road. However, this isn’t unlimited, so we ask that you save any heavy internet usage (streaming etc.) for when you get to your accommodation.
What food is included on Contiki trips?
Breakfasts are included on most trips, plus a handful of dinners. For all other meals, we like to give you the freedom to explore the local culture and cuisine… and even go on your own foodie safari.
Is there any free time on Contiki trips?
Contiki trips balance planned-out activities with free time to explore in your own way. In other words, we provide the best framework for you to build on with free time of your own. You can choose to explore, relax or eat your way through these blocks of time, and you can do it alone or with members of your group.
Is tipping compulsory on Contiki?
That depends! If you’re heading to America, tipping is a big part of the culture and is expected when paying your dinner bill, buying drinks at a bar, and even getting a taxi. However, if you were heading to Japan, tipping would be seen as impolite.

In most parts of Europe, leaving a tip of around 5-10% of the total bill is the standard, although make sure you check the bill first, as a tip may have already been included in the total cost of the bill. It’s generally worth reading up on the tipping culture of the region you are travelling to prior to your trip, or just ask your Trip Manager about the general etiquette (even though they’ll probably tell you anyway).

In terms of tipping Contiki staff and Local Guides, this is entirely up to you! If you think a Trip Manager, Driver or Local Guide has done an awesome job (and they usually do), you might want to tip them for this, but this is at your discretion and no one else’s. Just tip what you think is right.
What should I tip Contiki Trip Managers and Drivers?
Tipping of Contiki Trip Managers and Drivers is completely optional. If you think your Contiki crew have delivered an outstanding level of service throughout your trip (and we hope you do), you may wish to tip them, but this is at your discretion and no one else’s.
What are the luggage restrictions?
This one depends on the destination and trip you’re travelling on. Read your Contiki travel documentation carefully to understand luggage allowances for your specific trip.
Do I need travel insurance?
Yes! It’s a requirement of travelling with Contiki that you take out comprehensive insurance cover for cancellation, personal injury, death, medical expenses, repatriation expenses, evacuation expenses, personal liability & loss of personal property and Covid related expenses before you travel with us. It’s also super important to check that your insurance covers all of the activities you’ll be trying out, particularly any adventure activities (for all you adrenaline junkies).
What's not included that I should budget for?
Contiki social travel trips have a large degree of flexibility built into them to enable you to truly own your experience. This means that some trip elements are not included in the initial cost and may require additional budgeting.

Flights to and from your starting and ending points are not included in the cost of your trip. These can be booked independently by you or your Global Journeys advisor can arrange these for you.

Each trip contains the right amount of free time for you to explore or indulge your travel desires. We offer Free Time Add-Ons, which are additional experiences that are not included in the overall price. These add ons are highlighted on the specific trip page. Your Trip Manager will highlight these to you and organise their booking on trip. Exceptions may apply where pre booking is required but this will be made known to you in your pre departure information.

A number of meal times are left open for you to explore a region and its foodie offerings in greater detail, so budgeting for your taste in non-catered meals is important.

Travel insurance and visas are also not included in the cost of your trip, and should be booked separately.
What documents do I need to be able to travel with Contiki?
Depending on where you’re travelling and your nationality, you'll likely need a valid passport and may also need visas to enter into certain countries - please check this well in advance of your trip departure date. Some countries also require passports to have 3-6 months left on them before the given expiry date.

It is your responsibility as the traveller to make sure you have the appropriate, valid documentation for the length of your trip. If Contiki requires any specific documentation, we’ll let you know either at the time of booking or before your trip.
