Itinerary

Your tour departs from your hotel at 2:00 PM. A local guide will bring you on a panoramic tour of central Dublin, a friendly city famed for its wit and sense of fun. Board a barge, once used for transporting Guinness, for a cruise down the centuries-old Grand Canal as you sip a welcome drink and enjoy dinner while listening to live music. (D)

Explore historic Kilkenny on a guided walking tour of its Medieval Mile, stretching from cathedral to castle. Discover the city’s rich heritage, narrow streetscapes, and picturesque merchants’ houses. Next, soak up the atmosphere and savor the ancient craft of artisan brewing with a private tasting at Sullivan’s Taproom. Explore on your own before dinner at your hotel. (B/D)

Visit the Marine Bar in Dungarvan (a CIE Tours Exclusive) and enjoy a drink with some traditional music in this centuries-old, family-run pub. Travel to Blarney Castle to explore the beautiful gardens or to kiss the famous stone, which legend promises will bestow the “Gift of Gab”. Pass through County Cork to the lively town of Killarney – a draw for visitors to Ireland since the 18th century. Dine in Hannigan’s Bar and Restaurant at your hotel, and then after dinner take free time to explore some of Killarney’s friendly pubs, many with live music. (B/D)

Visit Moriarty’s in the Gap of Dunloe, a CIE Tours preferred shopping partner, before heading out to the Dingle Peninsula. Visit a farm for an immersion into traditional rural life and watch skilled sheepdogs demonstrate their talents at herding. Enjoy free time to explore the charms of Dingle town.

In the evening, head to the Celtic Whiskey Bar in Killarney for a tasting, chocolate pairing, and dinner. (B/D)

Ferry across the River Shannon Estuary. Take in the spectacular beauty of the Cliffs of Moher, soaring 700 feet above the Atlantic surf. Walk along the top of the cliffs for views across Galway Bay to Connemara and the Aran Islands.

Continue on to Galway for a short walking tour and some free time in the city before dinner in your hotel. (B/D)

Spend a leisurely morning exploring vibrant, artistic Galway as you please. Travel to Athlone, where you’ll enjoy an Irish Coffee or whiskey as you cruise Lough Ree in a replica Viking longship. Next, raise a pint at Sean’s Bar. This pub is not only the oldest in Ireland; dating back to 900 AD, it’s the oldest in Europe, according to the Guinness Book of Records. The sloped floors (often covered with sawdust), candlelight, and turf fire pay nostalgic tribute to this pub’s rich history. Enjoy dinner at the Athlone hotel this evening. (B/D)

Enjoy the scenery of central Ireland as you travel to Dublin. Visit the Guinness Storehouse in the heart of the city – one of Ireland’s most popular attractions – and sample Ireland’s iconic brew as you take in the panoramic view from the seventh-floor Gravity Bar.

In the evening, visit The Merry Ploughboy for a hearty dinner and an evening of traditional Irish entertainment. (B/D)

Your tour ends after breakfast. (B)

Dublin Pub Tour   0 , AB, Canada, Jul 2025
I cannot say enough good things about the CIE Ireland Pub Tour July 16-22, 2025. The tour was well organized and executed, the accommodations and food were great in all the locations and the excursions were fun. The amount of bus travel time, planned excursion time and free time was well balanced. We weren't too rushed or overscheduled. But what read more stood out the most was our fabulous tour guide and driver, PJ. He really made the tour enjoyable and fun. PJ is entertaining, funny and very knowledgeable about all things Irish. He incorporated a uniquely Irish tradition of the National Hurling Finals which really immersed us in the Irish culture. PJ went above and beyond to ensure that our tour was flawless and that we all enjoyed ourselves. Hats off to CIE and PJ for a great vacation that will go down in the memory books for me. I highly recommend this tour.
Fantastic itinerary with the best guide 2 , Australia, Jun 2019
A fantastic itinerary, well executed; hotel accommodations and sights were first-rate. No miscalculations or over-promising; arrivals and departures were uniformly smooth. The major reason for this tour's success was our driver and director Denis O'Sullivan who, aside from being a thoroughly professional driver, managed our group of 34 with constant read more good humour and an accommodating nature. His narrative while driving was intelligent and entertaining, far beyond canned patter. I've taken several land and ship tours; he's the best I've been exposed to and added significant value to our experience.
Everything was taken care of 1 , Australia, Apr 2019
We had a fantastic 8 day tour being the Irish Pub and Folklore Tour. Our Tour Director Matt Nolan was very professional and caring. He was funny, full of Irish history and very entertaining. We were always well informed on our itinerary. Everything was taken care off from day 1. A big thank you to Matt for making our tour memorable. Looking forward read more to doing another tour with CIE and hoping we get Matt Nolan again.
An amazing experience 1 , Australia, Apr 2019
I have to say this was an amazing experience. Not only did we get lucky and have a great group of travellers, but we also had some wonderful tour guides (both Matt Nolan, our perpetual guide and driver extraordinaire) but also the city and venue guides. We saw a lot, and got a great taste of what the culture is like. Matt was so knowledgeable and his read more personality is perfect for this situation as he made everyone feel at ease. We had a great time, learned a lot, enjoyed some great tours and entertainment. I have to say my favourite parts were the views at the Cliffs of Moher and the entertainment at both Kate Kearney's Cottage and at the Brazen Head Pub. Can't wait to take another tour with CIE (and fingers crossed, Matt Nolan will be the guide).
A great experience in Ireland 2 , Australia, Apr 2019
My wife and I have been all over Europe and I would consider this as one of the best tours we have taken. You couldn't have had anything any better than what we've encountered on our trip. The driver / guide Matt Nolan was a class act. He was funny, gracious and treated us like family. If I could have him as a driver on all of our trips abroad it would read more be great. What a great asset he is for CIE International. The weather was perfect and the group was great. Hats off to CIE International for having us experience such a great trip and people of Ireland. We will be planning next year a trip to Scotland with CIE. Wish we had Matt Nolan as our driver.
Highlight of our Europe trip 1 , Australia, Sep 2018
We recently completed an eight day pub tour of Ireland which was the highlight of our month stay in Europe! Our tour guide, Peter Murphy was amazing in his ability to impart his vast knowledge of a myriad of interesting facts (with a good bit of fiction thrown in as well) of Ireland with a great sense of pride, humour and obvious joy while performing read more all aspects of his job! I believe our entire group concurred that CIE is extremely fortunate to have tour guides of Peter's calibre who certainly made our tour a memorable one. In addition, the logistics and preplanning of all aspects of the tour were extremely well thought out and executed and all accommodations were of high quality as were meals. We would certainly sign on for another tour with CIE and recommend them to our family and friends as well!!
Amazing tour, we will choose CIE again 2 , Australia, Aug 2018
We would like to thank John, our bus driver for taking us on this amazing 8 day bus tour which completely exceeded our wildest expectations. Choosing this tour because we hoped it would be fun, was exactly what we got. Everything was well organised, on time, and we saw some amazing parts of Ireland that had we travelled on our own, we would never have read more seen. How John maneuvered the bus around some of those corners, we are just in awe. Anyone thinking of taking this tour, please do not hesitate, so long as you like a drop! All the hotels were 4* and well chosen. Thank you CIE. Wherever possible we will choose CIE again.
Pubs and Folklore 3 , QLD, Australia, Jul 2018
Just wanted to provide some feedback re the tour. Travelling by myself I was a little apprehensive at first but these concerns were soon allayed. From day one of the tour I felt welcome , valued and included. The hotels were lovely, the company was wonderful and we saw a lot quickly and efficiently without it seeming too rushed or commercial. I loved read more everything we saw - and also everything our tour guide recommended outside the tour.

Despite being a commercial tour I felt was able to experience some genuine Irish local hospitality. All the local tour guides were amazing also. In fact I have nothing negative to report. One of the things I enjoyed the most was the history described by our tour guide. Also everything our tour guide Lesley recommended we see was excellent. I would do this tour again in a heartbeat - the only flaw was it made me wish I was Irish!! So many thank yous for your recommendation - I don’t have much time off in my profession but this was the best holiday I have had. And that is priceless.
Fantastic trip 1 , Australia, Oct 2017
Just got home a week ago from taking the CIE pub tour. What a fantastic trip! Our driver/guide, Noel, was wonderful. His knowledge, humour, professionalism and passion for his country showed through every day. I travelled with five friends and we joined the rest of the tour group in Dublin. Noel really made the trip a memorable one. His recommendations read more to local pubs/sites at each stop along the way were accurate and worthwhile. This was my 10th trip to Ireland and it was definitely the best. I will recommend CIE to everyone planning a trip to Ireland.
