Itinerary

The 'Eternal City' has captivated travellers for centuries and you'll not be disappointed as it prepares you for an exhilarating journey across Italy. On arrival in Rome, check in to your hotel, relax or get ready for your very own introduction to Rome. Later this evening, meet your Travel Director and fellow travellers for a glimpse into what lies ahead. Stay: Ergife Palace

With so much to see and do, you could explore Rome for an eternity without getting bored. Join a Choice Experience to the Roman Forum or start your day the Italian way. Get to grips with the city's main attractions, joining a Local Guide. Cross the Tiber to see the mighty Colosseum and the countless other ancient sites which featured prominently in the days of the powerful Roman Empire. Why not select a Choice Experience dinner in a characteristic trattoria to soak up the city's effervescent atmosphere? (B)

The Bay of Naples beckons and our first stop is in the picture-perfect resort town of Sorrento. Pastel-hued residences cling impossibly to craggy cliffs that plunge into the deep blue waters of the Tyrrhenian Sea. Enjoy your time soaking up the sun-drenched views.

You won't need to venture far to catch the scent of the 'world's best lemons', which you'll see in abundance at the local markets. Taste some of the mouth-watering fresh produce grown locally or consider a Choice Experience to the artists' paradise of Positano, followed by a scenic drive along the Amalfi Coast. The Sirens of Sorrento may be nowhere in sight, but their alluring call will be possible to resist. (B) Stay: Paradiso

Enjoy the atmosphere as you explore the beautiful Bay of Naples during your free time this morning. Alternatively, choose to join a Choice Experience guided walking tour of Pompeii, buried under the volcanic ash for centuries after the eruption of Mount Vesuvius.

Leaving the Bay of Naples behind, journey past Cassino and see the monastery which featured as a backdrop for some of the fiercest battles of World War II. This poignant reminder of war gives way to a place of pilgrimage as you head north to Assisi, where an orientation reveals a medieval town that has changed very little since the time of St. Francis. (B/D) Stay: Frate Sole

Your journey continues across the Apennines and through the Emilia-Romagna region, credited with being the origin of tortellini, mortadella and parmesan cheese. Before you know it, you'll arrive in Venice, the Queen of the Adriatic, where a Choice Experience will see you gliding through the city's canals in a gondola. (B/D) Stay: Il Burchiello

Embark on a cruise by private launch to bustling St. Mark's Square in the heart of Venice. Admire the most famous of Venice's 417 bridges, the Bridge of Sighs, and enjoy views of the Doge's Palace and the Byzantine St. Mark's Basilica.

Later, enjoy a MAKE TRAVEL MATTER® Experience, as the extraordinary talents of glassblowers take centre stage during a visit to their workshop. Then, consider a Choice Experience to the island of Burano for a relaxing meal with your travel companions. (B)

The plains of Veneto are all that stand between you and Verona, the tragic stage for Shakespeare's star-crossed lovers. View the ancient Roman Arena, where concerts are still held to this day, and Juliet's Balcony, from which a fictional Juliet once called for her Romeo. Indulge in a romantic moment of your own before leaving Verona, bound for Italy's irresistible Lake District.

Arriving on the shores of Lake Como, you'll see first-hand why this scenic setting has been a favourite summer retreat of the rich and famous for centuries. You could choose to board an optional cruise this afternoon to make the most of this idyllic setting. (B/D) Stay: Grand Barone di Sassj

Pisa's white marble facades gleam in the sunshine, but it is the famous Leaning Tower that gets most of the glory when you visit this 'Field of Miracles', a name coined by 20th-century Italian writer and poet Gabriele d'Annunzio. Since Medieval times, the exquisite structures in the piazza have symbolised the stages of human life: the Baptistery representing birth, the Cathedral of Santa Maria Assunta symbolising life, and the Camposanto signifying death.

After a short drive from Pisa, you'll arrive at your hotel near Florence, the birthplace of the Renaissance. With a full day of sightseeing ahead tomorrow, kick back and enjoy the company of your travel companions this evening at an optional dinner in the Tuscan countryside. (B) Stay: Starhotels Vespucci

There are few cities in the world with an artistic legacy equal to that of Florence. Your Local Guide shares a superb commentary of the city's artistic and architectural heritage during a walking tour, which includes views on the Cathedral of Santa Maria del Fiore, the Baptistery, the impressive Giotto's Bell Tower and the Ponte Vecchio. Visit Piazza della Signoria and squeeze in some time for shopping – Florence is particularly renowned for its high-quality leather and 18-carat gold jewellery.

Later, return to Rome, where your journey began. Spend the evening forging final memories with new friends or consider a Choice Experience that whisks you away on one last sightseeing trip, complete with a mouth-watering dinner and live entertainment. (B) Stay: Ergife Palace

If Italy has become engraved in your heart as it did for celebrated poet Robert Browning, you'll have a hard time saying arrivederci. As the legend has it, if you tossed a coin in the Trevi Fountain, you're destined to return. Until then, bid your Travel Director and travel companions a fond farewell. (B)

Had the most amazing experience on this tour visiting wonderful Italian cities had a great bunch of travellers on the tour that really made the trip even more exciting.. The places we went and the tour guide along with the driver were always accommodating to help with any issues if they arose. Would definitely recommend tour company. Global journeys read more handled the booking from start to finish and kept me informed all the way nothing was a problem. Thank you so much.

Bob and I could find no fault whatsoever with our tour or our bookings. It was all so wonderful. We can't say what was best as it was all excellent. We really believe everyone should go on this tour. Our guide was so passionate and knowledgeable about Italy and in turn we learned a lot about Italy. Would definitely travel with CostSaver again. Thank read more you for a wonderful experience.
It was amazing trip 2 , Australia, Sep 2013
Had a fantastic time on this tour. Met people from all over the world who were also on the tour and are now new friends. The destinations were great and the local tour guides were very informative. Most of the hotels were great and even the ones that were a little bit smaller were OK because of their location. Overall it was amazing trip and thanks read more to Michelle from Global Journeys for organizing it all for me.
We got to see SO MUCH and enjoyed all of it 7 , Australia, Sep 2013
My Husband and I absolutely loved our tour! We had so much fun and saw so many more things than we expected. We picked to do this tour as we were on our honeymoon and we wanted something that was a lot nicer than the cheaper tours that stay in hostels and this was amazing. All hotels bar one was beautiful. Better than we expected. The hotel in Florence read more was terrible We didn't even have a real bed to sleep on it was a mattress on a blank of wood which was on a box smaller than the mattress. Other than that we loved it. We expected to have a pretty relaxed tour being on our honeymoon but this was very fast paced. We had 6:15am wakes most days and had very busy days. We agreed at the end of the tour that we are glad it was like that as we got to see SO MUCH and enjoyed all of it. We did need a holiday after to just chill out as we were so exhausted but still loved the whole tour.
A terrifically good time and enjoy every second of it 1 , Australia, Jun 2013
Impressed with Trafalgar organization and customer care, our Travel Director was very entertaining with a high knowledge of Italian history and culture. My wife and I had a terrifically good time and enjoy every second of it - and we learned about Italy!
I will certainly recommend Global Journeys to friends and family 5 , Australia, May 2013
The Italian Scene tour was great. Our guide Fabritizo was very knowledgeable & our coach driver Francesco whilst he couldn't speak English, was awesome. Some of the hotels weren't so good (hard beds) and a little out of the way & breakfasts were generally typical Continental breakfasts, ie... a lot of pastries but sufficient. If you didn't do the optional read more tours offered, you were sometimes left in hotels that were quite a distance from the town, and public transport was often not available and taxis very expensive. However in saying that the optional tours were good. Meals in Tuscany & end of tour meal under the Colosseum were fantastic. The seafood in Burano was woeful (not fresh). This tour is rushed, (but the descriptions does state its lively) & I would have loved to stay longer in Venice (maybe see Venice at night) but we were taken back to the hotel by 6pm... & there was nothing to do in the hotel as its a fair way away from Venice. All in all, this tour was a great introduction to Italy. We met some interesting people on the tour from Aus/NZ/US/SA & Canada which made the tour heaps of fun. We have kept contact with them and hope to catch up with them in the future. Lastly, I'd like to thank Georgie our Tour consultant for arranging everything and her professionalism. I will certainly recommend Global Journeys to all my friends and family.
It ticked all the boxes 2 , Australia, Sep 2012
The Italian Scene tour was great. It ticked all the boxes. I am the type of person that when I travel I pick one country and by the end of the trip I want to be able to say 'I never have to go back to that country as I have seen / done everything I wanted to so onto the next country'. I can definitely say that after doing the Italian Scene Tour. I can read more make that comment and now head to the next country. Without this tour I would still be in the queues waiting to get into major tourist sites example Vatican Museum and Colosseum. Plus the booking experience with Frances was excellent. I am a tough judge on anyone doing my travel bookings as I previously worked for over a decade in Corporate Travel as a Senior International Travel Consultant, as I was expected to give high customer service I do expect this and Frances exceeded this. Her customer service is of the highest level.
It gave me a taste of Italy in my designated time frame 1 , Australia, Aug 2012
My tour guide was excellent. He shared his knowledge of historical Italian religion and politics as well as the best tourist spots including shopping spots and shopping hints. He has a great personality and had us laughing all the way around Italy. The tour was perfect for me, it gave me a taste of Italy in my designated time frame. I loved the sites read more I saw and took up most of the optional tours which I thought were well priced. Our tour guide told us along the way to not go home with any regrets - I listened to him and will cherish the items I brought home that will remind me of a wonderful trip for the rest of my life!
Quality at an affordable cost 3 , Australia, Jun 2012
Georgie Walpole, my consultant was amazing in all my communications - prompt, honest, upfront and courteous. Could not have asked for more. Travel Director, Jeff Allen of Trafalgar Tours was very knowledgeable, meticulous, friendly with a very good sense of humour. Made sure everyone on the tour knew the next day's schedule and made sure to count the read more number of people to ensure 'no one missing without info' before the coach left for another destination. The accommodation was 1st class however a bit away from city centre. But this is to keep the costs down. And also where is the time & energy left to enjoy CBD proximity? I will recommend Global Journeys to all of my friends. This is a mob one can rely on for quality at an affordable cost.
