2019 Season (To Nov 2019)2020 Season (From Mar 2020)

Expand All
1 Lille
Today we’ll meet with the group in Lille and enjoy an included welcome dinner together. Over the following days, we’ll visit the principal areas of British, Commonwealth (Canadian, Australian, New Zealand, South African and Indian) and American involvement across the Western Front. With a unique opportunity to see the memorials to each country’s fallen, this guided tour will offer an unforgettable experience to those wishing to gain a greater understanding of WWI. (D)
2 Lille – The Somme – Amiens
We’ll commence our first day by exploring the region of the Somme, which is infamous for the great losses suffered on the first day of battle, 1 July 1916. We’ll make stops at Newfoundland Memorial Park, where the original trench lines have been preserved, the Ulster Tower and the Pozières Cemetery. Afterwards, we’ll complete our day at the Thiepval Memorial to the Missing of the Somme before heading to Amiens for our overnight stay. After an insightful and history-filled day, you’ll be free to rest easy and enjoy time at your own leisure. (B)
3 Amiens – Villers-Bretonneux – Ypres
Today we’ll leave Amiens and travel to the Australian National War Memorial and Cemetery at Villers-Bretonneux. Later, we’ll take time to visit the Canadian Memorial Park on Vimy Ridge before we reach Ypres. (B/D)
4 Ypres – Ypres Salient – Menin Gate – Ypres
The beautiful city of Ypres was totally destroyed during the war, and sits in the epicentre of British endeavours during four long years of conflict. There is much to see around Ypres, including John McCrae’s Dressing Station at Essex Farm Cemetery, the German Cemetery at Langemark, Vancouver Corner and the Hooge Crater trenches museum. As a fitting end to the day, you’ll be invited to attend the daily playing of the Last Post under the Menin Gate Memorial. (B)
5 Ypres – Fromelles – Lille
We’ll spend today exploring Hill 60 and the area around Fromelles, VC Corner and the Australian Memorial Park. We’ll also visit the recent exhibition commemorating the finding of 250 previously unknown sets of remains in 2009 (and their now marked burial place) at Pheasant Wood Cemetery. Later, our tour will end in Lille, where we’ll say farewell to the group. (B)
1 Lille - The Somme - Amiens
After meeting in Lille, we'll commence our first day by exploring the region of the Somme – the infamous site of one of the most costly battles of WWI. While we're here, we'll visit Newfoundland Memorial Park – where the original trench lines have been preserved – as well as the Ulster Tower and Pozières Cemetery. We'll also have time to pay our respects at the Thiepval Memorial to the Missing of the Somme before we set a course for Amiens – where an included dinner awaits. (D) Stay: Hôtel Le Prieuré (or similar)
2 Amiens - Naour - Amiens
Today will begin with a visit to the underground city of Naours – where we'll see the tunnels where hundreds of ANZAC soldiers left their mark. The inscriptions on the walls of this cave network provide a touching insight into the lives and personalities of some of the brave soldiers who fought in WWI all those years ago. Then: we'll round off the day back in Amiens, where you'll have some free time to explore at your own pace. (B)
3 Amiens - Villers Bretonneux - Ypres
After today's breakfast, we'll leave Amiens behind us – moving on to the Australian National War Memorial and Cemetery at Villers-Bretonneux. Our next stop will be the Canadian National Vimy Memorial: an impressive monument that overlooks the Douai Plain from the highest point of Vimy Ridge. This evening will see us dining together in Ypres - a city that was totally destroyed during the war and rebuilt anew. (B/D) Stay: The Albion Hotel (or similar)
4 Ypres - Ypres Salient - Menin Gate - Ypres
The beautiful city of Ypres sits in the epicentre of British WWI endeavours, and there is much to see in the surrounding countryside – including John McCrae's Dressing Station at Essex Farm Cemetery, the German Cemetery at Langemark and Vancouver Corner. Today we'll also visit the fascinating Hooge Crater Museum – where we'll discover a unique collection of WWI artefacts after exploring the trenches for ourselves. An evocative end to the day is in store: we've an appointment to keep at the Menin Gate Memorial, where we're invited to attend the playing of the Last Post. (B)
5 Ypres - Fromelles - Lille
Today will be spent exploring Hill 60, the area around Fromelles, VC Corner and the Australian Memorial Park – and we'll also be lucky enough to visit an exhibition commemorating the 2009 discovery of 250 previously unknown sets of remains at Pheasant Wood Cemetery. After coming full circle back in Lille later today, our tour will come to a close. (B)

“One of the most poignant, thought provoking experiences I have had”
- VIC, Australia Jun 2019 View Photo

I’m a seasoned traveller and this tour was one of the most poignant, thought provoking experiences I have had. The wonderful guide Francis told us stories about each town, cemetery, monument and field as we visited them.
We shed silent tears together at the Menin Gate as they played the last post, we smiled at the stories of mateship, we were awestruck at the many tales of bravery by ordinary Australians so far from home, the school in Fromelles that has the huge...read more

“Wonderful small group tour”
- NSW, Australia Oct 2017 2 Helpful Votes

Our Guide David was excellent! He provided excellent information on the historical background of the sites we visited. He was also an excellent driver and considerate. Surprised one of the couples on tour by taking them to the grave site of her relative - we were all very impressed that he had researched where he was! Van was excellent and had plenty of stops throughout the day. Hotel was quaint and very comfortable. We learnt so much about the sacrifices made by our brave soldiers in WW1. Highly...read more
