Arrive in Broome, where we'll meet and transfer you to your hotel. Settle in and enjoy the evening at leisure, enjoying the spectacle of a famed Broome sunset. Stay: Broome, Oaks Cable Beach Resort or similar (D)
Leave Broome along the Gibb River Road to Windjana Gorge, where ancient marine fossils lay embedded in the gorge walls. Then continue to Tunnel Creek, Western Australia's oldest cave system. Wade through the cool waters that fill the tunnel and emerge on the other side to discover a serene oasis. Stay Two Nights: Bell Gorge Wilderness Lodge (B/L/D)
Back on the Gibb River Road, travel to Bell Gorge, where stunning cliffs surround a series of tiered waterholes. You might like to hike to the lower pool of the gorge and enjoy a dip in the waterfall below. Alternatively, relax in the shade and enjoy a spot of birdwatching. (B/L/D)
Travel through the rugged Wunaamin Miliwundi Ranges to an art centre for a visit. Before returning to Broome, stop off at the Boab Prison Tree, believed to be more than 1,500 years old and measuring 14 metres in diameter. This remarkable tree was once used by early police patrols as a standing point for prisoners as they were walked to Derby. Today, the hollow tree is a registered Aboriginal site of great cultural significance. On your return to Broome, enjoy a farewell dinner this evening. The tour was excellent. Our guide, Leigh, was knowledgeable and good fun. All the accommodation was top quality. The permanent tents the best we have stayed in. The food was first class, even at the camp site, when we were miles from stores. I was involved in all the activities, including going down to the swimming hole at Bell Gorge and walking through read more Tunnel Creek. My husband stayed behind on both occasions as he was wary of going over rocky domain as he had suffered a previous ankle injury. He was not alone in staying back and there was no pressure or awkwardness on those did stay behind. There were a number of long coach journeys and early mornings, but also time to relax. All in all a great time.
