Overview

Read reviews and enjoy exclusive savings on AAT Kings 3 Day Uluru & Kings Canyon Unearthed. See the highlights of the stunning Red Centre. Witness the breathtaking Uluru sunrise and sunset and discover the history of Uluru. Venture in through the domes of Kata Tjuta on the Walpa Gorge walk and explore Kings Canyon's towering sandstone walls.

Itinerary

On arrival at Ayers Rock Airport you'll be transferred to the resort (flights to arrive prior to 1.30pm). Visit the Uluru-Kata Tjuta Cultural Centre to learn more about the Western Desert region, then tour the sacred sites around the base of Uluru with a local Driver Guide. Walk to the Mutitjulu Waterhole, and view ancient Aboriginal rock art. In the late afternoon, relax with a glass of sparkling wine as the sun sets over Uluru, bringing out the myriad shades of colour for which the world's largest monolith is renowned. Stay: Outback Hotel & Lodge, Desert Gardens Hotel or Sails in the Desert Hotel, Ayers Rock Resort.

Rise early to watch the first rays of the sun set Uluru and the Red Centre alight. Later, travel to the mystical domes of Kata Tjuta. On the way enjoy panoramic views of the southern side of Kata Tjuta before arriving at the base of Walpa Gorge. Spend time exploring the gorge and the unusual conglomerate rock formations. This afternoon travel to Kings Canyon. Stay: Kings Canyon Resort, Standard Rooms

At sunrise, make the steep rocky climb to the rim of the Kings Canyon for spectacular views of Watarrka National Park. Follow the rim of the canyon, stopping to look down into the gorge from a series of lookout points along the way. The rim walk takes approximately 3 hours to complete and is rocky and steep in parts. If you wish to take an easier, shorter walk instead, you can explore the boulder-strewn canyon creek bed, getting up-close to the native plants and birdlife that call this part of the world home. Your Short Break concludes in Alice Springs. As this Short Break concludes after 7.00pm, accommodation will need to be pre-booked for tonight.

Uluru & Kings Canyon Unearthed 3 , New Zealand, Jul 2016
Although we thoroughly enjoyed our 3 days it was not an actual tour as advertised, but a mix of tours, this was very disappointing. There was no informal meeting together before our first outing - we were told which bus we had to get onto and that was it. As we thought we had booked for a 'tour' we expected to be with the same group of people and have... read more the same tour guide and or driver all the time. An important part of joining tours is getting to know each other. Maybe we had not read the information clearly but we were also surprised that none of our meals were included. Having early starts breakfast should have been included. The second half of the trip was with the same driver/tour manager, Byrone, and he was excellent. Our night at Kings Canyon could have been organised by AAT Kings for us all to eat together as a group but this did not happen.

(GJ. Thanks for your feedback Barbara. All short breaks are independent tours - as they leave daily - so people start and leave depending on their travel dates. Some clients prefer this, some like you, prefer the group comradery. We do state that these trips are independent, however perhaps we could make it even clearer! Thanks for your thoughts.)
