Vestmannaeyjar or Westman Islands are an archipelago of 15 islands and 30 rock stacks off the south coast of Iceland.

The largest of the islands, Heimaey, is the only inhabited island of the group and is known for its steep Edfell volcano, grey sand beaches and its green prairies.

Located in the chilly and wild North Atlantic, it is common to see whales and seals in the surrounding waters. Puffins are also a common sight in summer, as the islands are considered as the largest Atlantic puffin colony in the world. Ships will dock in the main harbour.

Port:Heimaey

Heimaey, the largest island in Iceland's Vestmannaeyjar archipelago, is renowned for its dramatic landscapes and rich history. The island is famous for the 1973 volcanic eruption of Eldfell, which reshaped its terrain and nearly buried the town. Visitors can explore the Eldheimar Museum to learn about this event and its impact on the local community.

Heimaey offers breathtaking natural beauty, with rugged cliffs that are home to thousands of puffins and other seabirds. The island's scenic hiking trails provide stunning views of the surrounding North Atlantic. The picturesque harbour, surrounded by volcanic peaks, is perfect for boat tours, offering close encounters with marine life like whales and seals.

Arrives: 07:00 Departs: 17:00

Grundarfjordur is a picturesque town situated on the fjord of Beidafjordur on the Snaefellsnes Peninsula. This charming fishing village is located right next to Kirkjufell mountain, the most photographed mountain in Iceland. Ships will dock at the Port of Grundarfjordur.

Top Things to Do in Grundarfjordur:

  • take a scenic drive along the Snæfellsnes Peninsula
  • enjoy a cruise in Breidafjordur Bay
  • visit the Bjarnarhofn Shark Farm
  • explore the town of Stykkisholmur
  • visit Helgafell, the holy mountain

Arrives: 07:00 Departs: 17:00

Although remotely located in northwest Iceland and surrounded by ruggedly beautiful fjords, Isafjordur is surprisingly cosmopolitan. Surrounded on three sides by remarkable mountains jutting upwards around a gorgeous bay, this is one of the most beautiful places you’ll ever visit. Smaller ships will dock at this port, while larger ships will anchor offshore.

Top Things to Do in Isafjordur:

  • visit the Osvor and Maritime Museums
  • look for Puffins on Vigur Island
  • journey to the Dynjandi waterfall
  • cruise through the Glacier Fjords

Prince Christian Sound or Prins Christian Sund is a dramatically picturesque fjord in the south of Greenland with gorgeous glaciers, steep mountains reaching over 2,200 metres, crystal-clear waterfalls fed by the ice sheet and untouched wildlife.

Here, whales swim along the iceberg-dotted shores and bearded seals love to lie on the floating ice to soak up the sunshine.

Bright blue and purple flowers come out during the summer and visitors may get to witness an aurora borealis, a stunning light show put on by the polar night.

Arrives: 20:00 Departs: 15:00

Nuuk, the capital of Greenland, offers a unique blend of contemporary living and traditional Arctic culture. Situated at the mouth of one of the largest and most spectacular fjord systems in the world, the city is a gateway to vast icebergs and remote Inuit communities. Nuuk's cultural significance is highlighted at the Greenland National Museum, which showcases artefacts from the Saqqaq culture and well-preserved mummies from Qilakitsoq.

Urban life in Nuuk is vibrant yet intimate, with local cafes and shops offering a taste of modern Greenlandic life. The city's backdrop of sharp peaks and the nearby Sermitsiaq mountain provide a constant reminder of Greenland’s rugged natural beauty. Explore the fjord and gain a direct view of ice floes and marine wildlife, while discovering both culture and adventure in this remote city.

Narsaq, located in southern Greenland, is a picturesque town known for its stunning natural surroundings and rich Norse history. Nestled between towering mountains and the Tunulliarfik Fjord, Narsaq offers breathtaking views of icebergs and lush landscapes. The town's colourful houses create a striking contrast against the dramatic backdrop.

Visitors can explore the nearby Norse ruins at Dyrnæs and Sandhavn, which provide a glimpse into Greenland's Viking past. Narsaq is also a great base for outdoor activities such as hiking, kayaking, and fishing. The local museum showcases artefacts from the town's history and offers insights into traditional Greenlandic culture. With its combination of natural beauty and historical significance, Narsaq is a fascinating destination in Greenland.

Baltic Sea Discovery 0 , VIC, Australia, Jul 2026
Thank you very much for your assistance and support over the past 10+ years. We have truly appreciated your help with our travels over the years. We really enjoyed our cruise with Viking last year. Unfortunately, our recent cruise with Oceania was somewhat disappointing and did not meet our expectations.

The most disappointing issue was that Oceania read more automatically charged US$100 to our credit card at the beginning of the cruise as a security deposit, without obtaining our authorisation. What is even more frustrating is that, despite the fact that we did not overspend our onboard credits or have any outstanding charges, the US$100 has still not been refunded.
It has now been almost 30 days since the cruise ended, and we are still waiting for the money to be returned. We find this particularly disappointing and feel that the way this was handled was not consistent with the level of customer service we would expect from a premium cruise line.

More generally, we found that the overall level of service on Oceania—including organisation, entertainment and customer service—was noticeably below what we experienced with Viking. We were also not particularly impressed with the level of marketing during the cruise, which at times felt rather aggressive.
Overall, our experience with Oceania reinforced our very positive impression of Viking, and we would certainly consider travelling with Viking again in the future.
Thank you again for all your assistance over the years. We very much appreciate it.

Kind regards, Andrey & Inna

Can highly recommend the Antarctic Triumph trip with Oceania Cruises. Excellent itenerary, amazing scenery and excursions and wonderful food and accommodation aboard the ship.
The highlight of the cruise Palms to Andean Peaks 2 , VIC, Australia, Nov 2025
We have been with Oceania many times, so we know what to expect. The meals are excellent, particularly like the Aquamar Kitchen's healthy food and drinks. The other specialty restaurants are an indulgence, superb dining. I have gained 4 kgs, my husband 3 kgs. We had a Concierge cabin but it is no different from the Verandah cabin. The Concierge Lounge read more is really nothing to speak of. May be there is no need to spend the extra money. The highlight no doubt is the crossing of the Panama Canal. It was a bucket list experience. A speaker who has lots of experience with the Canal Authority guided us in his talk through the passage. A few places in the ship needs updating.
Standout Company 1 , VIC, Australia, Aug 2025
We are a widely-travelled senior couple who have now found the best travel agent by far. No matter what your criteria are for judging a travel agent, Global Journeys gets top marks. Professionalism from first contact, knowledge of the market, communicational, exceptional. ALong with the ability to deal with cruise/other companies, awareness of best read more deals, and ability to get them reliabily plus their follow-up.

Our consultant, Tracey Standing, was exceptional on all counts - especially her prompt, clear, professional and helpful communication. Recently, through her negotiations on our behalf with a major cruise company, not only did we have a trouble-free and relaxing cruise, but we finished up with more On-Board credits that we struggled to use them!! Thanks Tracey. For our (hopefully!!) next OS venture we will certainly have Global Journeys as Stop Number One !!
