This is quintessential Africa.

Itinerary

Arrive in Moshi and head to the hotel. Attend a pre-departure meeting with the local guide to go over last minute details of the trip. Stay: Stella Maris Lodge

Most days the hiking will begin early in the morning, with hikes of around 5 to 6 hours. The guides will set a moderate pace, so as to allow for time to acclimatize to the altitude changes. Guides will continually repeat the words, “pole pole” (po-ly, po-ly), which means “go slowly” in Swahili. (B/L/D)

Hike through the heather and moorland zone to Horombo Hut. (B/L/D)

Proceed onto the Kilimanjaro Saddle, through a desertlike alpine zone, to Kibo Hut. (B/L/D)

Night hike to the summit via Stella Point. Appreciate the beautiful sunrise from the roof of Africa, then descend back to Horombo Hut. (B/L/D)

Transfer by shuttle bus to Moshi. Time to relax, take a shower, and celebrate with a drink. Cheers to climbing Mt Kilimanjaro! Before dinner, you will be welcomed and congratulated on your climb by the mamas of the Moshi Women’s Cooperative, a project supported by G Adventures. They will present you with a gift and a certificate to remember all your efforts on the mountain. Opt to pre-book the Moshi Mamas Massage by adding it to your checkout page, or ask your GCO or travel agent for assistance. Stay: Stella Maris Lodge (B/L)

Travel to the picturesque town of Arusha. En route, stop at the Moshi Women’s Cooperative to learn about what this project offers. Meet the women, learn more about their lives, and opt to purchase some souvenirs. In the evening, you may be joined by other G Adventures travellers arriving from Kenya or starting the safari portion of their Tanzania trip. Check for details of the time and location of a welcome meeting, typically around 18:00. Stay: Outpost Lodge (B)

Travel to Mto wa Mbu village and take part in a cultural walk to learn about village life in the area. Meet the women who run the village tours and enjoy a delicious home made traditional lunch. Spend the afternoon viewing wildlife along the main road that winds through a lush cool forests of Lake Manyara National Park, overgrown with ficus trees and covered with bromeliads. This area is truly stunning, as the western wall of the Rift Valley escarpment provides a gorgeous backdrop. Search for the phenomenal birdlife, tree-climbing lions, elephants, giraffes, and hippos. Stay: Twiga Campsite (B/L)

Drive through the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and on to Serengeti National Park. En route marvel at the sheer vastness of this territory, and spot the multitude of animal and birdlife while cruising through this acacia-accented savanna. Stay: Seronera Campsite (B/L/D)

Rise early for a morning wildlife safari drive, returning in time for lunch. Continue the search for the "big five" in the afternoon while taking in the vastness of the Serengeti plains. Stay: Seronera Campsite (B/L/D)

The rich pasture and permanent water of the Crater floor supports a resident population of more than 20,000 to 25,000 large mammals. Stay: Simba Campsite (B/L/D)

Visit an authentic Maasai village and the G Adventures-supported Clean Cookstove Project, then return to Arusha where the tour ends on arrival. Onward flights can be booked from 6pm, or extend your stay in Arusha by a night, or two. (B/L)

  • Serengeti wildlife safari drives
  • Ngorongoro Crater wildlife safari drive
  • All transport between destinations and to/from included activities

  • Simple hotels (3 Nights), full-service camping (4 Nights), alpine huts (4 Nights)
  • Single Travellers. We believe single travellers should not have to pay more to travel so our group trips are designed for shared accommodation and do not involve a single supplement. Single travellers joining group trips are paired in twin-share accommodation and tents with someone of the same sex for the duration of the trip.
  • Your starting hotel in Moshi has a number of services and facilities available as follows; Internet, laundry, gear hire, luggage storage, telephone services, TV lounge, sauna, curio shop, garden bar, outdoor dining area and taxis should you want to go to/from Moshi as the hotel is located just a few kilometers outside of town.
  • On the trek you will stay in non-heated, wooden A-frame huts with simple, single beds that have thin mattresses. There is no electricity so headlamps are essential. You will need to provide your own sleeping bag, small pillow and sleeping sheet (if you would like). Be prepared to possibly share a hut with members of the opposite sex. Your third sleep, before your summit hike, will be at the most basic of the shelters. This structure has many bunk beds, shared with several other hikers. With the altitude, the shelters do get very cold. For added comfort and insulation, you may consider bringing your own sleeping mat to lay on top of the provided mattresses. All huts have shared toilet and bathing facilities.
  • Drinking water: On day 2, you should bring bottled water from the hotel for your first day's hike. Beyond that, purified (filtered) mountain water will be provided for you for the duration of the hike.
  • Please note, in the event of having to descend from your climb early due to altitude sickness, injury or exhaustion, any extra meals or nights spent at our Moshi base Hotel will be at your own expense and will not be covered by G Adventures.
  • Camping on safari is truly an adventure. You will be able to get off the beaten track to get a first-hand experience of the beautiful wilderness and nature. While camping, we stay at designated public campsites inside of and nearby the national reserves and parks. These campsites generally are very basic, and we carry tents to pitch at the campsites.
  • Our camp site outside of Lake Manyara National Park is well serviced with a small restaurant/bar, store, warm showers, flush toilets, and electricity. Once we move into the Serengeti National Park and to the Ngorongoro Crater rim, the facilities become more basic with long-drop latrines, simple cold shower or bathing, and no electricity.
  • Camps are open to the natural environment – care must be taken, especially at night, when a torch/flashlight is recommended when walking around the camp area.
  • The idea of camping in Africa can be a daunting one. For those not accustomed to ‘roughing it’ for a few days we offer a full camping service. All tents are pitched for you, meals are prepared and served and the washing up is done by G Adventures staff. This leaves you with more time to enjoy your surroundings and is ideal for first-time campers who may be worried about the challenges such a trip can entail.

  • CEO (Chief Experience Officer), certified mountain guide, certified safari guide/driver, local representative, cook, porters, camp crew

  • 11 breakfasts, 10 lunches, 7 dinners

  • 7-seat 4x4 safari vehicle, private minibus, trekking
