G Adventures and the Indigenous Wiwa community of Colombia’s Lost City have united to open a previously undiscovered trekking route for travellers seeking a new and unique experience. The ancient Lost City of Teyuna in the Sierra Nevada region of Colombia has captivated hikers and adventurers with its intriguing ruins and lush jungles, and now for the first time, travellers can experience it in a whole new way.
Working alongside the Indigenous travel company Wiwa Tours, G Adventures now offers a Lost City Trekking tour led by an Indigenous guide. During the trip trekkers will stay in Wiwa camps and follow a new hiking route open exclusively to G Adventures and Wiwa Tours travellers.

This small group tour is limited to a maximum group size of just 16 adventurers and will visit the Wiwa village of Gotsezhi, opening its arms to tourists for the first time. Travellers will experience a traditional soul-cleansing ceremony before entering the community where they will learn first-hand about the customs and enjoy a meal crafted from local ingredients.
G Adventures and their non-profit partner Planeterra have worked with Wiwa Tours to develop a community enterprise, where women can demonstrate and sell their traditional handicrafts and provide meals to travellers during their trek. Committed to supporting Indigenous communities, this project provides employment opportunities and helps protect traditional cultures and customs through sustainable tourism.

“In 2017, Planeterra introduced a set of industry guidelines, to improve tourism's interaction with Indigenous communities. Using these guidelines, we work to ensure the long-term prosperity and survival of communities like the Wiwa people through tourism, while allowing our travellers to learn more about their cultures and traditions,” says Jamie Sweeting, vice president of social enterprise and responsible travel for G Adventures.
G Adventures has worked closely with Wiwa Tours to develop an itinerary that supports the local community, as well as offering a unique and memorable experience to travellers. This itinerary takes travellers off the beaten path where they can explore dense jungles, swim in natural pools, and sleep in hammocks under the stars en route to the Lost City. The ruins of 'Ciudad Perdida' will be showcased and explained on a guided tour and visitors can explore the uncrowded relics at their leisure.

A G Adventures Chief Experience Officer will be on hand for the duration of this incredible experience and together with an Indigenous Wiwa guide will showcase the culture, scenery, and history of this undiscovered region. This is an immersive, challenging, and rewarding tour that will take your breath away in more ways than one. Ready to break down some barriers (and a sweat!)? Check it out.
