Itinerary

The World Heritage-listed city of Valparaíso welcomes with its long and colourful history dating back to the conquistadors. This vibrant city is rich in theatre, music, performance and street art and exquisite Victorian architecture. You'll find every colour from the rainbow in this vibrant city's streets, staircases, alleyways and buildings. Please book your flight to arrive into Santiago prior to 12:00 PM.

Located within the Juan Fernandez Archipelago, the volcanic wonderland of Robinson Crusoe Island will enchant you just as it did Daniel Defoe, who immortilised the island in his famous book, published in 1719. True to its description in the story, the island is a captivating lost paradise where you will swim in crystal-clear waters and discover its diverse and rich array of flora represented by more than 130 endemic species, including the spectacular Juan Fernández Firecrown and the tiny Juan Fernandez Tit-tyrant.

Freechoice: Visit the historical landmarks of San Juan Bautista Village, the only settlement on the island. See the Patriotic Caves, the Santa Barbara Fort, and the remains of Acorazado Dresden, a German battleship sunk to avoid capture in 1915, or enjoy a unique food tour featuring traditional dishes like lobster and golden crab. Alternatively, hear the legends of pirates and treasure as you walk through critically endangered temperate sub-tropical woodlands in the World Heritage Biosphere Reserve.

Named after the marooned sailor, Alexander Selkirk Island is the largest in the Juan Fernández Archipelago. Densely wooded and marked by ranges and deep ravines that lead to a sheer, rugged coast, a visit here promises a dramatic and truly unforgettable experience. Be amazed by the striking volcanic landscape and its unique biodiversity where a number of rare and endangered plant and bird species can be found, such as the Juan Fernández Orchid and the critically endangered bird, Masafuera Rayadito. Uncover the secrets of Easter Island with its mysterious and enigmatic past. From astonishing volcanic terrain to imposing archaeological sites, Easter Island presents a unique exploration full of history and adventure. Today you will discover a selection of the 600 volcanic stone figures, or Moai, and ancient petroglyphs that dot the island's green hillsides. Today, choose one of our Scenic Freechoice activities or join a more active Scenic Discovery excursion.

Freechoice: Visit the stone village of Orongo and the island's largest crater Rano Kau, home to the island's largest and most important archaeological site, or walk along the north-western section of the island, visiting several ancient villages, moai and caves. Enrich: Be immersed in ancient Rapa Nui ancestral roots and cultural heritage during a unique music and dance performance and learn about how ancient Polynesians used astronomy. Located halfway between New Zealand and Chile, Pitcairn Island boasts untouched subtropical ecosystems, rugged coastlines and endemic flora, bird and marine life. One of the most remote communities on earth, it is home to just 50 locals, direct descendants of the Bounty mutineers who arrived on Pitcairn in 1790. Discovery: Enjoy a guided hike around the steep coastline of harsh, black lava and witness drawings and petroglyphs made by Polynesians who lived on Pitcairn centuries before. (B/L/D)

A small, isolated group of coral reef islands in the southeast extreme of the Tuamotu archipelago, the Gambier Islands boast lush, green landscapes surrounded by exquisite blue and green lagoons that are as clear as air. Adding to the allure are the famous Tahitian black pearls, which are cultivated in the pristine waters around the island.

Freechoice: Discover St Michel of Rikitea Church, made entirely of fired limestone and inlaid with iridescent mother-of pearl, and explore archaeological relics made of coral stone on a walking tour of the town. Alternatively, explore a pearl farm and learn about the creation of the pearl, from the oyster, grafting and technique. Fakarava is home to the second largest lagoon in the Tuamotu Atolls and is a protected UNESCO Biosphere Reserve for many rare and endemic species of wildlife, birds and flora. Freechoice: Explore the village of Tetamanu at the far southern end of the lagoon and find a lovely vintage Catholic Church built entirely out of coral by early European missionaries, or visit a local lagoon pearl farm.

Discovery: Take a leisurely E-bike ride to see the Topaka Lighthouse, a stone structure shaped like a pyramid, or kayak and paddleboard along the lagoon and take in its extraordinarily beautiful pink sand beaches, made from broken pieces of coral and tiny pink crustaceans. (B/L/D)

A remarkably isolated island community, Palmerston is one of several sandy islets on a continuous ring of coral reef enclosing a lagoon. A favourite swimming spot is called Duke's Pool, in honour of the late Prince Philip, who swam there in the 1970's during a rare royal visit. With a population of around 60, most of the friendly residents are the descendants of one British man, William Marsters, and his three wives. Niue was settled by Samoa in the 10th century. Captain Cook, who sighted the coral island in 1774, was refused permission to land, but British missionaries arrived in the 19th century. Now a self-governing state in a free association with New Zealand, Niue is ideal for hiking along its coastal walks, exploring caves, cliffs and swimming holes. Vava'u, an archipelago of around 40 coral islands in the south Pacific Ocean, is a captivating combination of lush vegetation, sandy beaches, abundant marine life and underwater caves. Mount Talau towers over the main island, offering panoramic views. Local traditions involve woven leaves from the pandanus tree, production of Noni juice and extraction of vanilla essence. Fulaga is a narrow crescent of reef limestone in Fiji's Southern Lau Group. Adored for its beauty and lovely lagoon, the island has three villages: Muanaicake, Muanaira and Naividamu. The locals are skilled carvers, known for making outrigger canoes and wooden bowls, with some of their handiwork available for purchase during your visit. Discovery: Walk through the villages and watch the locals carve outrigger canoes and wooden bowls, or glide through the waters in a kayak, stand-up paddleboard or enjoy hikes around the island. The long and winding Vanua Balavu has natural hot springs, volcanic landforms and a huge lagoon bounded by a 130-kilometre barrier reef. A small monument near the wharf recognises the history of Lomaloma, the village used by Tongan warlord Ma'afu as his base to attempt to conquer Fiji in the 1840s. (B/L/D)

Levuka was Fiji's first capital, where King Cakobau reigned and the Deed of Cession to Queen Victoria was signed in 1874. Many of the old buildings remain unchanged since this time. The second largest city of Fiji, Lautoka is located on the western side of the island of Viti Levu, 24 kilometres north of Nadi. It is a pleasant mix of sugar-cane fields, grass-covered peaks, rural villages and market towns. (B/L/D)

Tanna's erupting Mount Yasur is regarded as the world's most accessible active volcano. Known for its continuous activity since Captain James Cook observed ash eruptions in 1774, it's considered a sacred area by members of the John Frum cargo cult, who believe their deity resides inside.

It's the southernmost of the Caledonian islands and the largest in the marine area of the Great Southern Lagoon, a UNESCO World Heritage site. Roughly halfway between New Zealand and Australia, this tiny island is an outlying self- governing Australian territory. Claimed by Captain James Cook for the British in 1774, Norfolk was settled as a convict colony, and in 1855, Queen Victoria sent the descendants of The Bounty mutineers here. Explore convict ruins, four museums, sheltered beaches and towering pines.
