Itinerary

Welcome to Melbourne! Your adventure begins at 7. 30am in the Melbourne CBD where your leader will meet you in front of the National Gallery of Victoria. Sit back and relax on the drive to Myrtleford where we will pick up lunch to enjoy on the way or when we arrive at Mount Buffalo National Park. With sheer cliffs, waterfalls, and sweeping views, this alpine wonderland will dazzle you with its natural beauty over the next four days. This afternoon, take a walk to the cascading waters of Dickson’s Falls then drive to The Horn for a short walk that’s big on views. From here, it’s a little over an hour by car to Bright and the charming guest house where you’ll spend the next three nights. (L/D)

Enjoy a hearty breakfast at your cosy guest house, where the atmosphere is as warm as your comfy bed each night. This morning you’ll drive to Pretty Valley in the Bogong High Plains where you’ll have time to enjoy the lovely alpine scenery before the walk to Mount Jaithmathang. White tree trunks reach towards the sky on the way to the rugged summit perched atop the high country plains, which drop away to reveal the river valley far below. You will be rewarded with more spectacular views just before you reach the sweeping vistas of the Mount Jaithmathang summit. After the return walk, drive back to Bright for a freshen up before your leader takes you to Bright Brewery to hang out with the locals and perhaps sample a brew or two (optional) or have dinner. (B/L)

Today it’s time for the walk everyone has been waiting for. Mount Feathertop is the second-highest mountain in Victoria, nearly two kilometres high and usually covered in snow from June to September. After a one-hour drive, we’ll commence our hike via the Razorback Walk, one of Victoria’s most famous and rewarding walks, which leads to the summit of Mount Feathertop where the views stretch on forever. Tonight, you may like to go out together for a meal or whip up a self-catered feast at your guest house. If you need to go grocery shopping, your leader is happy to help. (B)

After breakfast, drive to Bright for a leisurely morning in town or lace up your hiking boots one last time and explore the Canyon Walk. Keep an eye out for birds and wildflowers as you enjoy views of the small canyon carved by the Ovens River and see water races dug by the region’s early miners. From here, the group will drive to Milawa where you can pick up lunch if you wish. We'll also visit Brown Brothers' cellar door to enjoy a last glass of wine (optional) and possibly grab a bottle to take home before the journey to Melbourne where you will be dropped off in the CBD at around 5pm. (B)
